  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Issue: FP identification is not working immediately after entering
  wrong password

  System prerequisite: FP enrolled on system, Identify works fine.
  OS: Verified on: 20.04 PPA release.
  • Lock the screen
  • Enter wrong regular password and press enter.
  • Observe that "please try again" error is shown.
  • Now try to login using enrolled FP. Observe that FP gets detected (FW
uart log shows that FP is detected) but there will be no change in the login
screen.
  • Need to enter password to login into user account or Hit enter again,
login screen will show the Swipe your finger option and FP identify works.
  Attached the fprintd debug log.
  Events actions are mentioned with this symbol <==> at attached output.
  Post wrong password attempt, FW is immediately ready to capture the finger,
but host is saying device is already claimed and acquiring after hitting enter
key again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1995054] [NEW] [SRU] libreoffice 7.3.7 for jammy

2022-10-28 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * LibreOffice 7.3.7 is in its sixth bugfix release of the 7.3 line:
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.3#7.3.7_release

 * Version 7.3.6 is currently released in jammy. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.3.6 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.3.7
(that's a total of ? bugs):
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.3.7/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.3.7/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs

 * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU a
minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

[Testing]

 * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

  * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_73/2020/

  * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:
* Automated tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Automated_Tests
* Automated UI tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/UITests
* Regression tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests
* Feature tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Feature_Tests

 * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests that were
run and verified as passing.
* [amd64]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-jammy-libreoffice-libreoffice-still/jammy/amd64/libr/libreoffice/20221027_233324_4fa91@/log.gz

* [ppc64el]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-jammy-libreoffice-libreoffice-still/jammy/ppc64el/libr/libreoffice/20221027_233859_894f7@/log.gz

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-jammy-libreoffice-libreoffice-still/jammy/s390x/libr/libreoffice/20221027_225956_efc56@/log.gz
 * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite were
carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

[Regression Potential]

 * A minor release with a total of ? bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
features were removed.

 * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as described
above should provide reasonable confidence that no regressions sneaked
in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1995054] Re: [SRU] libreoffice 7.3.7 for jammy

2022-10-28 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.3.7 is in its sixth bugfix release of the 7.3 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.3#7.3.7_release

   * Version 7.3.6 is currently released in jammy. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.3.6 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.3.7
(that's a total of ? bugs):
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.3.7/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.3.7/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
  the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU a
  minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
  unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
  (both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_73/2020/

    * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:

  * Feature tests

run and verified as passing.

   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite were
carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

  [Regression Potential]

   * A minor release with a total of ? bug fixes always carries the
  potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
  release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as described
  above should provide reasonable confidence that no regressions sneaked
  in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1995092] [NEW] Wrong ubuntu logo in About section in darkmode

2022-10-28 Thread pakaoraki
Public bug reported:

Bug only on Ubuntu 22.10

The ubuntu logo used when darkmode is selected on the "About" page of
Settings is not the right one.

There is two ubuntu logo stored in /usr/share/pixmaps/:
-ubuntu-logo-text.png
-ubuntu-logo-text-dark.png

It seams that for some reasons the "ubuntu-logo-text-dark.png" is not
used at it should be in darkmode.

** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

  I have Blank Screen set to happen after 2 minutes of inactivity.

  When resuming from a Blank Screen (by moving the mouse or touching the
  keyboard), the Dock is displayed over the top of the current program.

  To get it back to normal I need to click "Restore Down" on the current
  programs window and then "Maximize" so that the Dock no longer
  overlaps it.

  (Note: I have Auto-hide dock turned off.)

  This only happens sometimes. I can't reproduce the bug it every time.

  -

  1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
  - Ubuntu 21.10

  2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname'
or by checking in Software Center
  - Not sure (I guess the Dock is part of the Gnome interface?)

  3) What you expected to happen
  - Dock should not overlap the current program on resume from screen blank.

  4) What happened instead
  - The Dock overlaps the current program on resume from screen blank.

Public bug reported:

Reason:

We're trying to protect an internal APT source from trivial accidental

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1990189] Re: brlttty claiming CH341 usbtty device blocking access

2022-10-28 Thread storepeter
Glad I found this bug report.

The USB-id 1a86/7523 is used by CH340 based USB-serial ports,
which is what is used on Chinese Arduino and many rs485 USB adapters,
and a lot of other stuff, certainly much more general use than just brltty

I would argue that there are plenty more people using one of the above devices,
but I guess their reaction - like mine has been just to stay on ubuntu-20.04
until the issue is resolved

I recomend removing the entry from /lib/udev/rules.d/85-brltty.rules

Now I found this bug report this is what I did, and should be good until
the system decides to update that file and put it back again.

I *think* that if you copy your modified file to /etc/udev/rules.d
instead, it's saved over system updates.

Title:
  WiFi captive portals stopped working after Kinetic upgrade

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  After an upgrade from Ubuntu 22.04 to 20.10 NetworkManager no longer
  recognizes captive portals.

  Attempting to run /usr/libexec/gnome-shell-portal-helper produces this
  output:

  (process:166068): Gjs-CRITICAL **: 19:25:08.053: JS ERROR: ImportError: No JS
module 'fileUtils' found in search path
  @resource:///org/gnome/shell/portalHelper/main.js:13:30
  @:1:14

  This may be normal because of the environment, but it is the best I have to
go on now.

The pkg-website only provides a searchable index on the packages in
Ubuntu. If a certain package is not available in a certain Ubuntu
release, then this is outside the responsibility of the pkg-website

Bug description:
  Starting from 2022 the main big tech companies introduce Passkeys.
  Or in the more official name Fido Multi-device credentials.
  Basically this is a webauthn login, but the private key is distributed among
all the devices in a persons Google, Microsoft and iCloud account.

  If a person wants to login in on a device not in the account a QR code
  should be scanned after which the computers do some cryptographic
  magic via Bluetooth. And the new device also has the private key.

  This method is supposed to be a lot safer and more convenient than the
  usual passwords.

  As far as I know this system is open.

  My wish is that Ubuntu and Linux in general also will support this
  Passkeys thing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1981349] Re: wslu prevents from opening files and folders on some situations

2022-10-28 Thread Lem
This situation affected me too (Ubuntu 22.04). I couldn't open any files
from the GNOME Activities overview, and trying to open file paths from
the Audacious playlist wouldn't work either. With wslu installed, the
terminal output from Audacious read:

~$ audacious
Gtk-Message: 10:40:48.739: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
grep: /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc/WSLInterop: No such file or directory
WSL Interopability is disabled. Please enable it before using WSL.
grep: /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc/WSLInterop: No such file or directory
[error] WSL Interoperability is disabled. Please enable it before using WSL.
/usr/bin/wslview: line 216: /mnt/c/Windows/System32/reg.exe: No such file or
directory
/usr/bin/wslview: line 308: [: -ge: unary operator expected
[error] This protocol is not supported before version 1903.

# apt remove wslu

Audacious now only reports:
Gtk-Message: 10:41:43.684: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"

But the file browser opens as expected. And, files open from the
Activities overview just fine.

Bug description:
  With wslu installed, files and locations can't be opened from Gnome
Activities View neither on Wayland session nor on Xorg one. The same happens
when I try to go to a location from Places Status Indicator extension.In fact,
I filed a bug some time ago against this extension, but that bug was expired.
Now I found the reason for that bug so I create a bug report against the proper
package.
  The bug report against Places Status Indicator is this one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extensions/+bug/1970181
  I realized the cause of the bug in Places Status Indicator when I saw this
thread: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/701579
  Once I removed wslu from my system (on two different pc's) the problem with
the extension has gone and I can open files and folders from Activities view.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1930914] Re: ubuntu-minimal depends on ubuntu-advantage-tools

2022-10-28 Thread Sky
ubuntu-minimal should absolutely not force install of ubuntu-advantage-
tools. We're being force fed CLI ads via ubuntu-advantage-tools and we
HATE it. This package should at best be a 'recommends', and even then,
probably not.

I have no need of this spammy software, and yet I'm forced to remove the
entire meta package if I don't want it?!

This is what a mass exodus of users sounds like.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1995158] [NEW] "ubuntu-drivers autoinstall" fails with Python UnboundLocaError

2022-10-28 Thread Isikyus
Public bug reported:

I'm having problems with an external monitor on my laptop, so I wanted
to update the NVIDA drivers.

I first tried this in the "Additional Drivers" tab of "Software &
Updates". I selected a newer driver, clicked "Apply Changes", and
entered my password to install updates. This showed a progress bar and
seemed to be working, but after a few seconds I got a blank error
dialogue, with only an X button. I tried a few other driver versions
with the same result.

Next, I tried running `ubuntu-drivers autoinstall` from the command
line. I expected this would install some drivers. Instead, I got this
error trace:

```
$ sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall
with_nvidia_kms = version >= 470
UnboundLocalError: local variable 'version' referenced before assignment
```

Looking at the code I believe the 'finally' block is trying to use the
'version' variable set in the `try`, which can only work if the try succeeds.
Seeing this, I modified the script to set a default value for 'version':

```
*** /home/edward/detect.py.original 2022-10-29 15:40:49.515765835 +1100
--- /home/edward/detect.py.fixed2022-10-29 15:39:55.383555776 +1100
  '''Applies changes that need to happen before installing the NVIDIA
drivers'''
  with_nvidia_kms = False
  # Enable KMS if nvidia >= 470
  for package_name in to_install:
  if package_name.startswith('nvidia-driver-'):
+ version = -1
  try:
  version = int(package_name.split('-')[-1])
  except ValueError:
  pass
  finally:
  with_nvidia_kms = version >= 470
```

With this change `ubuntu-drivers autoinstall` ran successfully and
installed a bunch of packages. I can now see in Software & Updates that
I am updated to the latest NVIDIA driver versions. (However my monitor
isn't working yet so there may be another underlying issue.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1930914] Re: ubuntu-minimal depends on ubuntu-advantage-tools

2022-10-28 Thread Aaron Renny Varghese
I agree with Jeremy Bicha here. Canonical needs to make money and those
ads aren't spammy at all. However I do want to see an option to turn
Ubuntu Advantage/Pro and promotional content off, for those who don't
want it.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1992225] Re: Under Wayland Thunderbird crashes every time after resume from suspend to RAM

2022-10-28 Thread Andrei Borzenkov
Well, I switched back to Wayland and I was not able to reproduce it
anymore for over a week, so I presume it was caused by some external
component that got updated in the meantime. Feel free to close it.

Title:
  Under Wayland Thunderbird crashes every time after resume from suspend
  to RAM

Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 22.04, GNOME desktop in Wayland mode, Tunderbird
  102.2.2+build1-0ubuntu0.22.04.1. Ubuntu forces Thunderbird in Wayland.
  From /usr/bin/thunderbird

  # Enable native Wayland support (https://launchpad.net/bugs/1916469)
  export MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1

  After update to 102 Thunderbird crashes every time system is resumed
  from suspend to RAM. When removing MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND and tunning
  Thunderbird under Xwayland there is no crash. Previous version did not
  crash either.
