[Desktop-packages] [Bug 932181] Re: Unity Greeter - Update indicator menus so that they match the Unity Greeter style

We have to either export something and style in html from the greeter, or patch the indicator library to provide a style for the greeter (ugly). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1043379] Re: Visual design request: Missing icons for sync status
ubuntu-mono-light and ubuntu-mono-dark themes already include some icons for the following status: idle, error and syncing. The overlay scrollbar should be a little harder to invoke near the bottom right corner, because that is a particularly important spot for resizing windows, a common operation. There are two good reasons for this to be black. 1. We should never reduce the contrast of text by default, because it kills accessibility. A lot of bad monitors are out there which are hard to read anyway. 2. Openoffice uses Input boxes text color by default for document default text color. If this is gray, all documents will have gray text and gray formulas. While 50/256 gray is somewhat ok on screen, it produces nasty results on print (causing rasterised output, which makes all curves jiggly). This is A Bad Thing™, and definitely worse for the default theme. The worst of this is that the gray default color is saved into document and changing the theme color affects only newly created ones. One could change the color of Default text style back to black, but if you have formulas, then these remain gray even after that. AFAIK only workaround for formulas is adding color black {} to all formulas. While we could argue that openoffice shouldn't use input box text color, but for the first argument I think the theme should be adjusted. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 578768] Re: Main Menu submenus scroll badly with Ambiance/Radiance theme

Unfortunately, when my cursor leaves the scrolling button, the menu 'jumps' to where it started 1. Reduce your screen resolution to ensure that scrolling will kick in. I have an Asus N10J netbook, and the resolution is 1024x600 2. Make sure you are using the 'Ambiance' theme (yes, it is important) 3. Right-click on any panel, and add applet named 'Main Menu' 4. Click on the newly created 'Main Menu' and make your way to System - Preference. There should be enough menu items there to get the scroller buttons to appear 5. Using the mouse, move your cursor on top of the scrolling-down button 6. After you are at the bottom of the menu, try to select the last menu item and see what happens: It will jump to the beginning of the list. Observation that I've made - This bug is not present in 'Menu Bar' - It is somehow related to the theme. Change the theme to Clearlooks, and the scrolling problem in 'Main Menu' is gone Screencast: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- applets/+bug/578768/+attachment/1500098/+files/out-1.ogv To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-applets/+bug/578768/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

But when you double click on the title bar, it (un-)maximizes it. If you double click on the menu bar... Nothing happen! It is very confusing for users who now expect both thoses bars to behave as one. In fact, many users will not see the difference between the 2 bars, and will not understand why sometimes it doesn't work! It is not consistent at all. I believe this is a big issue (and while users are not yet used to the left position of the buttons, they might use this method to maximize their windows even more often). Switch focus to the desktop by clicking on it. The window is not active but the icon in it retains the selected items color. It appears as though it is still selected and that it can be modified by keyboard shortcuts. By clicking on an icon on the desktop it changes color to be selected an now it appears that two items are selected. Several times I've deleted things by accident due to this, especially when I was new to GNOME. I would have several windows open with items selected. I would see the item I want selected and hit the delete key to remove it, only to realize that I had some other window focused where I had deleted something else. In Windows selected items in unfocused windows turn gray. I think it also adds another visual clue as to what window is focused besides just the title bar. Firefox and Thunderbird deliver the behavior I expect (probably because they are only faux GTK apps). Select some text in Firefox and then focus to another window and you will see that the selected text turns gray, indicating it is not active. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 971459] [NEW] Regression - Menubar appears/disappears when launching an app
Public bug reported: gtk+3.0 (3.3.18-0ubuntu3) precise; urgency=low * debian/patches/043_ubuntu_menu_proxy.patch: - Add back 'ubuntu-local' property for GtkMenuBar to allow apps to opt-out of the global bar on a per-menubar basis. (Used for glade, freeciv, and maybe others) -- Michael Terry mte...@ubuntu.com Fri, 16 Mar 2012 11:55:09 -0400 This revision introduces a regression cause the ubuntu-local signal triggers the menubar in/out. It affects all apps, but most of them are fast enough not to notice it. I can see it all of the times on gnome terminal and eog. On slower machines the effect is more noticeable. Since this updated was proposed to fix glade, I simply will go back to the previous revision we have in 3.3.18ubuntu2 and blacklist the menubar in appmenu-gtk. The change will cause glade to look slightly less integrated, but glade is an advanced tool used by a minority of people, while the current regression affects all our users and make the experience look cheap unfortunately. I will chat with mike trying to find a different solution, otherwise we will need to do what I explained before, with the revert. ** Affects: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Changed in: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/971459 Title: Regression - Menubar appears/disappears when launching an app Status in “gtk+3.0” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: gtk+3.0 (3.3.18-0ubuntu3) precise; urgency=low * debian/patches/043_ubuntu_menu_proxy.patch: - Add back 'ubuntu-local' property for GtkMenuBar to allow apps to opt-out of the global bar on a per-menubar basis. With updated Gtk+ 3.x, widgets must specify or inherit background colors, otherwise theming engines (unico or gtk default theming engine) won't render the background (cause the default background color is NULL, indeed). All themes, like lubuntu or light-themes, must add a line like: background-color: @bg_color; ...n the widgets which are affected by this black background, because this black background means background-color is currently unset. Set it to a color and unico or gtk+ will render with the background-color, black gone. Cheers -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/943682 Title: missing background theme definition Status in “lubuntu-artwork” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Maybe not the right place, and possibly a duplicated bug, this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-artwork/+bug/938472 But now, since last update, Unico based themes show weird colours, dialogs are black and this make apps unreadable. Nice work. Keen on testing and merging if it won't affect unity. Did you test it with unity? Adwaita looks lovely in Gnome Fallback (aka Gnome Classic or gnome-panel) but Ambiance Radiance do not blend right.
