[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2062377] Re: Ubuntu 24.04: gnome-shell crashes on Xorg if a legacy X11 cursor theme is selected
Thanks for identifying the cause. I had to use wayland, and now I can go back to Xorg. For me it was impossible to find out why this was happening, because I was using DMZ-black, and upgraded from 22.04 much before if was stable. So I thought it will be resolved by the time of 24.04 launch. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Also had to find a substitute for a program I use, and it only works in X. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062377 Title: Ubuntu 24.04: gnome-shell crashes on Xorg if a legacy X11 cursor theme is selected Status in Mutter: New Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: 1)Go to xorg 2)Download Gnome Tweak Tool 3)Select DMZ-white 4)crash from the system ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 24.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+23ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 6.8.0-22.22-generic 6.8.1 Uname: Linux 6.8.0-22-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.capabilities.gpu0: Error: path was not a regular file. .proc.driver.nvidia.capabilities.mig: Error: path was not a regular file. .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus..01.00.0: Error: path was not a regular file. .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: "" .proc.driver.nvidia.suspend: suspend hibernate resume .proc.driver.nvidia.suspend_depth: default modeset uvm .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 535.161.07 Sat Feb 17 22:55:48 UTC 2024 GCC version: ApportVersion: 2.28.0-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Thu Apr 18 17:38:02 2024 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: noble DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] GA107M [GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Mobile] [1025:1524] Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1044060] Re: nouveau causes compiz and gnome-shell to use 100% CPU. nvidia-current works.
I think the bug is related to this one https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89842 ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #89842 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89842 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1044060 Title: nouveau causes compiz and gnome-shell to use 100% CPU. nvidia-current works. Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Every once in a while, usually when I've been reading news and blogs for a couple of hours, the display freezes up and doesn't respond to any mouse clicking. Doing ctrl-alt-backspace works as well as ctrl- alt-f1. I've noticed that if the problem happens a lot in a short period of time, eventually update-notifier will tell me updates are available. When I tried ctrl-alt-f1 and ran tops, that's when I discovered compiz was using 100% cpu so that was what was causing the display to not respond. I don't know many commands, but killall compiz did allow me to continue reading the blog, but of course all window decoration was missing and I had no way to launch other applications through the gui. After doing ctrl-alt-backspace to restore my desktop, Apport reported an update-notifier crash. Since this problem happens at times I'm not doing anything but reading what's already in the browser and trying to scroll down to read more, I think the problem is caused by something done on a schedule. Since update-notifier always seems to come up eventually on reboot or ctrl- alt-backspace, it would seem like update-notifier is somehow causing compiz to use 100% cpu at times. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1446072] [NEW] No menu in fullscreen on Gnome 3
Public bug reported: When I connect to a remote computer in fullscreen the menu on the top of the screen does not open any more since I upgraded to Ubuntu 15.04. There is a grey line at the top of the screen indicating the menu when I connect to Windows 2008 R2. When I connect to Windows 8.1 the grey line for the menu disappears completely after a few seconds. It is very annoying not being able to use the menu. The other change is that the fullscreen windows opens on the screen where the remmina is started. In 14.04 I had RDP windows always appear on one screen. Now I have to move remmina window there and then start RDP. Otherwise it starts on a screen I don't want RDP to start. When connecting to Windows 8.1, the cursor is now working great and it changes shapes. Unfortunately I cannot say this for connecting to Windows 2008 R2. The cursor there is surrounded with a black square (64x64 maybe) where previous cursors are drawn. This may have something to do with my graphics drivers because I use two graphics adapters and two drivers for three screens (nouveau and intel) both provided by Ubuntu. I have no proprietary graphics drivers. ** Affects: remmina (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: When I connect to a remote computer in fullscreen the menu on the top of the screen does not open any more since I upgraded to Ubuntu 15.04. - There is a gray line at the top of the screen indicating when I connect - to Windows 2008 R2.
