[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1690544] Re: include proper fix for CVE-2007-3126, released in GIMP 2.8.22
As I wrote in https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=773233#c2 (that's the bug for the master branch, where GIMP 2.9.x is being made from), I could not reproduce the crash mentioned in the CVE. Probably no surprise, given that CVE was reported against GIMP 2.3.x However, I'd like to stress that this bug might have been fixed a lot earlier if any of the downstream vendors who noticed it had reported it upstream. Please make sure that every non-Ubuntu-specific bug in Launchpad has a corresponding upstream bug report (adding a reference to thess is what the "Also affects project" link is for), or that an upstream report is made if you can't find one. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #773233 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=773233 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690544 Title: include proper fix for CVE-2007-3126, released in GIMP 2.8.22 Status in The Gimp: Fix Released Status in gimp package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The GIMP developers announced at https://www.gimp.org/news/2017/05/11/gimp-2-8-22-released/ that version 2.8.22 finally includes a proper fix for the ancient ICO file import crash CVE-2007-3126. The Layers/Channels/Paths/Undo/Brushes/Patterns/Gradients combined dock ( Whew! - is there a shorter name for this initially standard opening combo dock?) was so far to the right on my screen that I had to snag it with Alt-Drag (see screenshot). I am using the proprietary NVidia 304 package (which I have been automatically installing since (so far) Nouveau always manages to crash something I try to use; I have not actually tried it yet with the new Lubuntu, I suppose I ought to try one day...), and my monitor is set to a resolution of 1792x1344 (where DO they get these wierd coordinates?) [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1614593] Re: gimp freezes at end of cage-base transform
So... Discovering that Debian and/or Ubuntu decided to make their GIMP 2.8 packages depend on gegl-0.3 instead of gegl-0.2 came as a surprise to some of the GIMP developers. We prefer not to raise library dependencies in the stable branch, and have certainly not planned for changes in GIMP code to accommodate for this in the stable branch - as you can see, the patch author for the fix in the GIMP master branch isn't sure if the patch can be backported to be compatible with both gegl-0.2 and gegl-0.3: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=770848 This makes this hard to fix from our side for distros that choose to deviate from the upstream dependencies. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1001570] Re: Regresson: Unable to import WMF images into GIMP, or convert them using wmf2xxx
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 629153 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/629153 ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 629153 wmf2XXX tools fail due to defoma font issue -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1001570 Title: Regresson: Unable to import WMF images into GIMP, or convert them using wmf2xxx Status in gimp package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have put the package on this bug as GIMP, but seeing the range of problems (described below), it is probably something else. SUMMARY: 1. In Lucid 10.04, GIMP would flawlessly import WMF files. 2. Starting Maverick 10.10, it would not work. 3. There was, at least, a work-around, in that the tools wmf2xxx could convert the files into a different format (e.g. EPS), which GIMP could import. 4. But with Precise 12.04, even that work-around fails. MORE INFORMATION: * When trying to open a file with GIMP, GIMP incorrectly recognises the WMF dimensions as having dimensions of -1x-1 (see attached screen- shot), and having negative X and Y ratios. GIMP will allow you to correct the width and height, but not the resolution, making importing impossible. * wmf2xxx fails with error code 1 but no error message. * convert (from ImageMagick) fails with error code 1 and the message: failed to scan file `t2.wmf' @ error/wmf.c/ReadWMFImage/186. * Surprisingly, Libre Office Writer and Draw are able to import WMF files. Unfortunately, Libre Office crops the images, so that they anyway cannot be used. This regression has been hanging around for 19 months, and really needs fixing. The only remaining work-around is to either boot into Windows or run 10.04 in a virtual machine, neither of which is an acceptable solution. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 713426] Re: Splash screen inconsistent with other Ubuntu applications
This is as easy or as hard as ensuring that the following parameter is used in any command that starts GIMP (by shortcut, context menu, ...): -s, --no-splash Do not show the splash screen. See http://www.gimp.org/man/gimp.html -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/713426 Title: Splash screen inconsistent with other Ubuntu applications Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Binary package hint: gimp When launched, GIMP is presenting a splash screen. This is very untypical Ubuntu behaviour, as LibreOffice is the only default Ubuntu application also showing a splash-screen - that bug reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/711035 Splash screen should be removed. Cursor loading icon is enough information for the end-user.
