[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1754186] [NEW] Night Light only affects a single monitor now
Public bug reported: The Display settings have a "Night Light" option which allows reducing blue light at night. In Ubuntu 17.10, this worked great, and the setting took effect on all 3 of my monitors. In Bionic, only the 1st monitor is affected; the other 2 remain at the default color temperature. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1754688] [NEW] Full screen windows always open on 1st monitor
Public bug reported: Hardware setup consists of 3 displays: - 2 "large" displays (left, middle) - 1 "medium" display (right) In the prior version of Remmina (in Ubuntu 17.10), a profile that is configured to "Use client resolution" will use the resolution of the display on which the main Remmina window sits (or maybe it's the display where the cursor is pointing --- they're the same when you double click on an entry to launch it). This allowed one to choose which display on which to open a full screen RDP client and have correct results. In the new version of Remmina, "Use client resolution" always appears to use the resolution of the 1st (large) display, even if the action is occurring over on the 3rd (medium sized) display. Additionally, when the window is made full screen, it always jumps over to the 1st display. Very frustrating. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1791354] [NEW] gnome-terminal scrollbars "hang outside" the window by 1 pixel
Public bug reported: (This might be a bug with the Ubuntu theme -- not sure.) Gnome Terminal scrollbars appear to be 1 pixel too close to the edge of the window. It may be that they are in the right place, but should somehow be rendered "under" the black border of the window, or maybe they need to be moved "inboard" by 1 pixel in both x and y dimension. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 998931] [NEW] menus appear on wrong monitor
Public bug reported: Background: I have 3 monitors (in a left/middle/right configuration) and an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 450. This means I have to use Xinerama, which means Unity falls back to Unity 2D. Most programs work fine. Problem: LibreOffice apps (like Calc and Writer) appear to have several bugs in their menu implementation: 1. The menus are per-window, instead of being at the top of the screen in the panel like other apps. This is fine with me, and *not* the topic of this bug report. Presumably if global menus become a configurable option, the mode in which libreoffice menus are currently operating will be expected to work correctly. I mention it only for completeness. 2. When a window is on the middle or right monitor, the menus open in the wrong position. For windows on the middle monitor, the menus open on the right monitor. For menus on the right monitor, the menus open on the correct monitor but align to the right of the menu item text. See the attached screenshots for clarification. LibreOffice apps are the only ones I've seen that exhibit this behavior. Note that this bug is similar to bug 974900, but is not the same. In that case, the menus are incorrectly right aligned (like in my right monitor case), but they span monitors. In my case, the menu will shift right a bit to avoid spilling onto the middle monitor. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 763422] Re: [i965] idle black screen plus other issues Ubuntu 11.04
I too am seeing the issue where the screen stays black but the mouse cursor moves and changes shape normally. Eventually, after some long amount of time (which varies from seconds to minutes), the screen will suddenly restore as expected. I when it eventually restores it's usually coincident with a keystroke or mouse movement, but I don't have solid data. I am using a Radeon HD 7970 with 3 monitors, and Unity on Precise. If I switch to VT2 , wait a little, and switch back, the problem persists. If I switch to VT2, log in, and kill the compiz process, and switch back, the screen restores as normal (except of course windows don't have decorations for a few seconds while compiz respawns, as expected). ** Tags added: precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763422 Title: [i965] idle black screen plus other issues Ubuntu 11.04 Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hello, I'm using Ubuntu 11.04. When I step away from the computer for a few minutes and then come back to it, usually I see the login screen that comes up each time you step away from the computer to get back to what I was doing on my computer, however occasionally when I come back and move the mouse the login screen is not visible and all I see is a complete black screen. The only thing I see is the white cursor, and only when I move the cursor over to the bar where I would enter my password would be, I get the insertion icon for entering text. But I still don't see the actual grey screen with the white bar to enter my password. I tried entering my password upon getting the insertion cursor when getting to the place where the white area would be to enter my password. I enter it, but all I still see is black. Obviously this is a bug, as I'm using a developmental version, 11.04, of Ubuntu, however I thought I should let the problem be known in the hopes and prayers that someone from the Ubuntu development team would see this post and fix the problem. And there is one other thing that I've noticed...the menu bar is all black at all times when I am logged into Ubuntu, except for the icons on the upper right hand side of the Ubuntu screen, such as the mail icon, wifi icon, etc. Those are slightly grey. The time however in that location is black however and basically unreadable. The only time I see the various drop downs from the menubar is when I hover over the menubar and click on where would be the various File, Edit so forth items on the menubar. Actually, as I'm writing this, for the first time I see the menubar items, File, Edit, etc., in black on a grey area in the menubar area, but they only appear when I hover over that area with the cursor, where they actually reside. I like the feature that the menubar itself, File, Edit, etc., only appears when you hover over it, but black text (menubar titles) on a very grey area isn't very readable. Lastly, occasionally when I rightclick with my mouse button to get a dropdown area in various areas of the screen, where it would be activated, such as to paste or cut text, it will appear for a second but then disappear almost immediately. Not long enough to actually click on what you want such as "Paste". I pray that the Ubuntu Team does in fact see this topic and implements the bug fixes soon, and in a way that once the OS is updated to represent these fixes, I can just update the Ubuntu Operating System through the Update Manager in the OS from within the OS I already have installed, and not have to reinstall Ubuntu all over again when the fixes come out. Thank you all so very much, in advance, for reading and appropriately responding to my lengthy post. May God Bless each and every one of you in The Mighty Name of The Lord Jesus Christ! He saved me and He can save you too if you are willing. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 320057] Re: Thunderbird hangs for 10secs when auto-completing address
I'm seeing this today in the latest Thunderbird in 12.04 (seems to have started happening to me more often in the past few months, but perhaps that's due to some server-side change.) It seems worth pointing out that when Thunderbird freezes with the address field drop-down displayed, the entire X session becomes unusable (due to the drop down menu having some kind of global focus?) until Thunderbird "thaws". So one cannot even go do something in another app while waiting for Thunderbird when this happens. Everything grinds to a halt. (Also note that per the upstream bug, the "workaround" referred to in comment #24 apparently just has the effect of turning off LDAP lookups, so it is not in fact a workaround at all.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/320057 Title: Thunderbird hangs for 10secs when auto-completing address Status in Mozilla Thunderbird Mail and News: Unknown Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird This bug seems to be very old, but somehow I didn't find it in Launchpad - forgive me if it's a dupe. The drop-down menu appears, giving me the possibilities that start with the letters I typed, BUT - Thunderbird hangs (compiz darkens the window) for approx. 10 seconds - then it gets itself up again and processes complete normally, no errors, no wrong behaviour - and the address book searches are correct. First I thought it was the prefs.js, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Long_time_to_open_address_book Funny thing is, that I NEVER had used Thunderbird 1.5 before - but I had about 50 lines with that "nonascii" in it. I deleted them, and gone was the problem, for a few days. TB worked normally. Then the problem reoccurred. Now my prefs.js is clean, and it still has the problem. It might have something to do with LDAP search as well - I first thought it has to do with that: I have a LDAP server on a openVPN network which is not always connected - and I thought the delay was a network timeout when TB searches for the LDAP and doesn't find it. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 689692] Re: the softwares launched from the unity-panel often don't get focus as they should
Not sure why this was closed --- the behavior still exists. Often, after launching an application from the Unity launcher, the new window fails to take the focus. I'm guessing this is related to the window manager's focus stealing prevention feature (which is at its default setting), but presumably the launcher should be able to coordinate with the window manager so that newly launched windows do get the focus. Also, since it may not be clear to those who are not experiencing this bug, when gnome-settings-daemon crashes at startup, it means that most apps (Thunderbird, Firefox, Chrome, etc.) are totally unthemed, and many desktop-wide settings (such as font size adjustments, etc.) are not applied at all. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 878198] Re: Difficult to grab window borders in unity-2d
Note that this will be a regression for folks doing LTS upgrades from Lucid to Precise. In Lucid, the default theme at least has a larger border on the bottom of the window. I'd argue that --- for 2D desktops in Precise --- the default theme's window borders should be fairly beefy for 2 reasons: 1. Differentiating windows: Without shadows to help define the edges of windows, it is can be hard to tell at a glance where one window ends and another begins when they are overlapping. Well-defined window borders would help this. 2. Resizing windows: As noted, it is difficult to "grab" very thin window borders. Larger window borders would help this. This is a real usability and quality issue that will affect many users when they upgrade from Lucid to Precise. ** Also affects: unity-2d Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: unity-2d -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/878198 Title: Difficult to grab window borders in unity-2d Status in “metacity” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “unity-2d” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “metacity” source package in Precise: Triaged Status in “unity-2d” source package in Precise: Invalid Bug description: In unity-2d it seems that window borders are only 1 pixel wide and are therefore very difficult to grab for window resize. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1281806] [NEW] Alt-Tab switcher regularly goes into "flicker loop of death" or just hangs
Public bug reported: Recently when doing Alt-Tab (and Alt-`) to switch between windows, the rectangle display showing the icons for all the applications and windows will suddenly start flickering rapidly and the whole X sessions will become unresponsive to keypresses and mouse actions. Sometimes instead of flickering, the Alt-Tab display will simply fail to appear and the same unresponsive X session results. This seems to happen very frequently during the course of a day. When it happens, my only recourse is to press Ctrl-Alt-F2 to get a text console, log in, and run "killall compiz" and then "DISPLAY=:0 metacity" to kill the hung window manager and start a new one. (I tried running "DISPLAY=:0 compiz" from VT2, but that doesn't seem to start compiz in a fully functional manner.) I'm reporting this from a system with an NVidia card, but I experience the same thing on another system using an ATI "Radeon HD 7970/R9 280X" card, so I don't think it's video-driver specific. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1485024] [NEW] context menu appears on wrong monitor when window is on rightmost of 3 monitors
Public bug reported: This is a triple-head setup with 3 monitors arranged horizontally. When the chromium window is on either the left or middle monitor, right- clicking on a tab or normal web page displays a context menu at the mouse pointer (i.e. normal context menu behavior). When the chromium window is on the right monitor, right clicking on a tab or page displays a context menu on the right edge of the middle monitor (but at the expected vertical location). This is the bug. Interestingly, if the mouse pointer is close enough to the right edge of the right monitor when right clicking, the context menu appears in the expected place (on the right monitor near the mouse pointer, but "pushed in" so the whole menu fits on the screen without overflowing off the right edge). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1280053] Re: eclipse is a crashy mess on trusty
Fwiw, using Eclipse on vivid seems fine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to eclipse in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1280053 Title: eclipse is a crashy mess on trusty Status in eclipse package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: It seems apport has stopped catching eclipse crashes, so I'm reporting this issue by hand. To reproduce, all I have to do is open a medium sized Java project in eclipse and try to navigate around (using F3 and F4 etc.). After 3 or 4 operations, eclipse always crashes. This started right after upgrading to trusty. What can I do to help folks debug this further? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1467695] [NEW] Alt-Grave (`) switcher has flickering/pulsing shadow artifacts
Public bug reported: 1. Hold down Alt and keep it held down. 2. Press and release the key above Tab (Grave, or `). Keep alt held down. While Alt is held down, the drop shadows for the window or windows of the current application will keep building up and then going back to normal and building up again. It's almost as though the windows are being redrawn may times per second into a buffer without clearing it first each time (but clearing it every second or so). While this is happening, I notice that the drop shadow for the top bar does the same thing. This can also be observed if one uses Alt-Tab to select an app that has multiple windows that then expand out into a similar display. I've observed this on systems with Intel, NVIDIA, and ATI display hardware, so I don't think it's hardware-specific. All my Ubuntu systems have 2 or 3 monitors. I suspect multiple monitors are needed to reproduce this. ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu.
