Bug description:
  The Ubuntu universe has a big Wayland problem!

  What does that mean?

  So a lot of packages in the Universe repository are not compiled with
  Wayland support which is really bad and would lead to bad performance
  after 21.04 comes out.

  Here are the following packages that I detected with wrong
  compilation:

  telegram-desktop (Wayland support work with snap version)
  kiwix
  firefox (everything works fine with this env variable 
set:"MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1")

I think I've found it.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/87.0+build3-0ubuntu2 
introduced "MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1" in the startup script (/usr/bin/firefox).
This was to fix #1916469, but unfortunately this breaks WebGL on Xorg.
Removing "export MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1" fixes the problem.

As an aside, Firefox 88 should behave better in that regard
(https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1695453 improved handling
of setting MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAN)

  US/firefox-87.0.tar.bz2) does *not* show the same behaviour - WebGL is
  working just fine.

After installing it there are still missing libraries needed for
compilation of basic examples provided by gnome

I have tried to compile example plugin mentioned here:

I have installed package gnome-software-dev (required for compilation)

But I am not able to compile it:

$ gcc -shared -o libgs_plugin_example.so gs-plugin-example.c -fPIC  `pkg-config 
--libs --cflags gnome-software`

I don't see anything related to snapd in the attached logs, the camera
plug is connected and there are no denials related to camera access in
the dmesg.txt (the other apparmor denials seem unrelated to camera

  older deb builds in bionic, for example.

It seems to be ipv6-related but I'm not using ipv6 so couldn't verify.
FWTW I played with chromium snap on focal with ipv4 and couldn't spot
any DNS lookup slowness, it was super fast. I've updated the title of
the bug report accordingly.

  When working with the chromium snap included in focal, it sometimes
  takes a few seconds to lookup an URL, sometimes it cannot resolve the
  hostname of the URL at all.

  Doing the same browsing using firefox doesn't show such behavior, no
  timeouts, no failed lookups, no delays.

  Any way how to debug that?  That is using IPv6 only.

Do you have any apparmor denials in the system log when you observe this
slowdown? (run journalctl, look for 'apparmor=DENIED'?

(for what it is worth chromium snap starts just fine for me on fresh
18.04 and 19.10 systems, but I reckon NFS may be a key here, and I don't
have it).

  that are showing up in gnome-disks, and in nautilus.  I have 13 57 MB
  loop devices that have accumulated on this system.  I'm not sure how
  to get rid of them.  I think the intention is that snaps do not show
  up in these two places, so I'm filing this bug.  Apologies for filing
  on snapd, I'm not entirely sure where it should go.  I'm expecting
  that snapd may not be correctly removing or tagging the devices as
  ones to skip in gnome-disks and nautilus.

I don't think we want (or can) change HOME in snapd (due to undesired
consequences and breaking many snaps), it works as designed, i.e. gives
snaps dedicated areas where they can freely write data to, including
hidden files; access to real user $HOME may not even be allowed unless
home interface is connected. I see an alternative approach that only
affects file picker is already discussed in the snapcraft-desktop-
helpers issue above, for now marking it invalid for snapd.

  Version label shows version to be installed (stable channel by default)

  Observed result:
  Version label shows most recently uploaded version, i.e. from the edge 
channel. This is not the version that will be installed when clicking install.

  The logic around choosing which version value to show was changed. Could 
create other bugs with this data.

  Orignial text:

  Ubuntu Software, when showing metadata about a snap package, is most
  of the time, likely to get information which is misleading, since it
  shows info from the *most recently* uploaded snap, regardless of which
  channel the snap was uploaded to.

  An example of this is to search for blender, and see that the version
  shows the edge channel - 2.80-4de142e0b7b and not the stable channel -
  2.79.

  After actually installing the application, the correct metadata is
  shown.

  Firefox does this even though intl.accept_languages is by default set
  to "pl, en-US, en" and settings look alright in GUI ("Content" page).

  Looks like this value is ignored until Firefox "thinks" it was set by
  user manually (value's status changes from "default" to "user's" in
  about:config).

  The workaround is to double click intl.accept_languages value in
  about:config and click "OK" button without changing anything.

I can confirm this bug on ubuntu 17.04 armhf.

It seems dhcp client doesn't acquire dns adresses when first time connected. 
Running dhclient cmd workarounds issue to next reboot.

/etc/resolv.conf contains in my case:

  series graphics, the backlight won't turn on after turned off by gnome
  session idle delay (org.gnome.desktop.session idle-delay). or by `xset
  dpms force off`

  Resume from suspend is unaffected.

  This is on a clean install of 16.10 with the 367.44 nVidia driver.
  This is a regression from the 367.35 driver.  367.48 and 370.28 also
  exhibit this behavior.

  This is confirmed on the following hardware:

  Oryx Pro 2 (oryp2) i7-6700HQ with 1070
  Serval 10 (serw10) i7-6700 with 1060
  Bonobo 11 (bonw11) i7-6700K with dual 1070

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install a fresh image of Yakkety and 367.44 from the graphics driver 
team's PPA.
  2. Log in to Unity shell
  3. Lock screen and wait for dimming.
  4. Move the mouse to 'resume'
  5. The screen will turn on, but the backlight is still off

  The current workaround:

  1. Hit tty1 (Ctrl+Alt+F1)
  2. Hit tty7 (Ctrl+Alt+F7)

  This will bring Unity back to life.

I have Ubuntu 16.04 installed on Lenovo Z series laptop. There is
Matshita optical drive in there nad it doesn't read DVDs while reads
CDs.


I have installed all needed codec like libdvdnav4, libdvdread4, 
gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad, gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly and libdvd-pkg. I didn't 
help.


All needed information in attached log files.

  When using nouveau driver for my GTX 1070 (mobile) the mouse cursor is fixed

  Currently, karmic switches audio output automatically to a new output
  when it is inserted (which is fantastic). I feel it would be made even
  better if gnome-volume-control were to switch its volume control from
  the old output to the new one - the one through which sound is
  currently being outputted.

  Often I will insert my USB speakers and want to immediately lower the
  volume. At the moment I have to right-click on the applet, click
  "sound preferences", click "output", choose the new output, then
  change the volume. I would like to be able to simply adjust the volume
  of the new device through the applet first time, without needed to
  explicitly select it first.

  As I upgraded to the Karmic alpha, bluetooth audio (via a2dp) stopped
  working properly. It was working fine in Jaunty.

  My headphones are detected and configured by pulse, but the audio
  skips as if it's spending half of each second paused. Music is
  buffered so that after I click stop on rhythmbox (or whatever--it
  happens with whatever player I use) the audio continues until it's
  caught up.

Public bug reported:

On Asus N551JM there is no sound from external subwoofer on fresh
Kubuntu 14.10 installation. There is no "Bass speaker" in alsamixer.
Adding "options snd-hda-intel model=asus-mode4" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-
base.conf makes "Bass speaker" appears in alsamixer but I was unable to
make it play any sound. On Win8 works out-of-box.

Alsa-base version: 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu4.

Howto fix: redirect pin 0x1a to "Internal speaker (back)" using
HDAJackRetask on codec Realtek ALC668. Contents of /lib/firmware/hda-
jack-retask.fw:

  [The bug]
  File selection by the “Select Items Matching” tool doesn't work in Files 
(Nautilus) when the view mode is set to “View items as list”. When the pattern 
containing * or ? is entered in the “Select Items Matching” dialogue, only one 
item matching the pattern is selected instead of all matching items. The 
selection works fine in “View items as a grid of icons” mode.

  [Test case]
  1. Open a folder in Nautilus containing, for example, several pdf files.
  2. Switch to “View items as list” mode by pressing Ctrl+1 or by View -> List 
or by pressing the corresponding button in the right part of the toolbar.
  3. Open the “Select Items Matching” dialogue by pressing Ctrl+S or by Edit -> 
Select Items Matching...
  4. Enter the string “*.pdf” (without quotes) into the “Pattern” input field 
of the “Select Items Matching” dialogue. Press OK.

  [What is expected]
  All the pdf files in the folder should be selected.

  [What happens]
  Only one pdf file is selected.

  1. open folder in files/nautilus which contains multiple files and/or folders
  2. type ctrl+s to bring up the "select items matching" dialog
  3. type glob pattern into text entry field which should match multiple files
  4. choose OK

  observed behavior:
   - only the first matching file is selected

  expected benavior:
   - all matching files should be selected

  This bug makes the "select items matching" feature completely
  nonfunctional, and is a regression from earlier versions of nautilus /
  files.
