Hi Guys,

Any idea what's happening here? (see last two lines of log).

I haven't seeded sec storage, because it's going to be S3 based.

Unless you have to create NFS first and then migrate to it? But then the option
to 'not create nfs staging area' doesn't make sense...

On high instance count cluster hosts (in clusters based on XS6.2) a max of 16
would reduce the allowed instances on such a host. I would like to suggest, in
addition to the current proposition, make dynamic scaling configurable on a
compute offering. When DS has been disabled instances based on that service
offering will get vCPUMAX=vCPU. The same goes for system offerings. If this
suggestion is not desirable I would like to suggest to only implement for
system offerings.

 Description

Currently, under the environment of cloudstack with multiple regions, each
region has its own management server running with a separate database, which
will cause data discrepancies when users create/update/delete
domain/account/user data independently in each management server. So to
support multiple regions and provide one point of entry for each customer,
this implementation duplicates domain/account/user information of customers
in one region to all of the regions independently whenever there is any
 change.

I've been tinkering with httpd proxying the UI via mod_proxy_ajp, then using
mod_deflate to compress on the httpd side. That gets me about a 2.5x decrease
in loading the login screen. system.js, which is the largest item downloaded by
default is around 980k, with gzip that drops to 68k.

I wanna see if I can squeeze a little more performance out by caching the
static stuff...once I get some stats out of that I'll turn it into a blog post
later this week.

I could be wrong, but I believe the idea of zipping the content for the UI
start page was discussed, but has not yet been implemented.

As far as I know (and have experienced), every time you go to the start page,
it does seem to take a while to load if you are not over a particularly fast
connection (if I'm in the office, it loads quickly; if I'm over a VPN
connection from, say, home, it tends to be noticeably slower).

 Hello,

From my understanding going to the UI at first start-up takes awhile
to load due to the way it is configured, I believe I was previously
told it was gzip for the website. However, I thought this would a one
time thing; it seems to take quite awhile to load UI each time I
 visit, unlike versions gone by.

 Any advice? Suggestions?

I don't like the id that id will be used for a list of ids. I would
like to see the two both added to the api. They don't even need to bee
mutually exclusive. the (human) semantics of id and ids is (in
english) quite different and should be honored.

 Good point Min.
I also thought about it but looking at some of the existing APIs thought
 of keeping both.

For e.g. in deploy VM api there is a parameter called 'networkids' which
can take an array of network IDs. Note that the naming convention of
ending in 's'. Now by this logic we should name the parameter 'ids' and
remove the existing parameter 'id' which will be a breaking change. In
case the existing 'id' parameter is used for multiple IDs that breaks the
 parameter naming convention.

I am all in favour of using the existing 'id' parameter if there is no
issues with breaking the naming convention.

 Hi Koushik,

I agree with the idea of supporting multiple IDs. But I may not like
 the
idea of introducing another different query parameter ids for this
purpose. Why cannot we just change current id parameter to take a list
of values? This way, user will not need to use two different parameters
for single or multiple cases. Maintaining two different parameters for
similar purpose is error-prone. If you look at Amazon EC2 api, you will
notice that they are also using the similar convention, id parameter can
 be one or more.

Currently list VM can only be called using a single VM ID. So if
 there is
a need to query a set of VMs using ID then either multiple list VM

filtering. Both approaches are sub-optimal - the former results in
multiple queries to database and the latter will be an overkill if
 you
need a small subset from a very large number of VMs.

The proposal is to have an additional parameter to specify a list of
 VM
IDs for which the data needs to be fetched. Using this the required
 VMs
can be queried in an efficient manner. With the new parameter the
 syntax
 would look like

The new 'ids' parameter will be mutually exclusive with the existing
 'id'
 parameter.

Let me know if there are any concerns/comments.

Missing cidrlist in 4.3 adv zone firewall

Hi,

It's the first time I'm testing firewall in 4.3 Advanced zone (without

the cidrlist is missing from the rules, both in UI and in cloudmonkey.
If I create the rule from cloudmoneky it also doesn't register a

This is what I see in the logs http://fpaste.org/75819/39203643/ when I

I can see the CIDRs in that table.
I also checked inside the VR and while iptables does have rules for the

Switch to Java 7

We now require at least Java 7 to build and run CloudStack.

Both the DEB and RPM packaging now also require Java 7 during
 installation
of the packages.

Re: [VOTE] Apache CloudStack 4.3.0 (fourth round)

2014-02-10 Thread Daan Hoogland
H,

-1 (binding)

I have a backwards compatibility issue with 4.3. It might turn out to
be a setup thing but I have verified that 4.2.1 works with my setup.
I have four basic test cases|:
1. create network and vm on top - works
2. create bridged network and create vm on it - works
3. create a vpc with private gateway (and ...) - fails
4. create a vpc with nicira based private gateway - works

I haven't actually tried 1,2 and 4 on this rc because 3 was always
giving me the most problems. The others worked on the previous rc.
Having discussed this with Hugo, we'll probably not stop using 4.3 if
it passes but it needs fixing asap.

setup
1 zone
1 pod
1 cluster
2 hosts (xen 6.0.2)

2 physnets
- physnet 1 vlan based (Public, Guest(tagged vlan-based), Management, Storage)
- physnet 2 nicira based (Guest (tagged nicira-based))

Now creating a private gateway on the vpc using marvin I get a 530
server error. I dare to put a -1 here as it is a majority vote. One of
the things that makes me hesitate is
4.2.1 code (succeeding):
2014-02-10 15:43:45,621 DEBUG [xen.resource.CitrixResourceBase]
(DirectAgent-4:null) Creating VLAN 322 on host 10.200.23.41 on device
tunnel0
4.3.0 code (failing)

Currently Dynamic scaling is configurable (enabled/disabled) at zone level and

Updates for Daan's request.

Repository: cloudstack-git

Description
---

Currently, under the environment of cloudstack with multiple regions, each
region has its own management server running with a separate database, which
will cause data discrepancies when users create/update/delete
domain/account/user data independently in each management server. So to support
multiple regions and provide one point of entry for each customer, this
implementation duplicates domain/account/user information of customers in one
region to all of the regions independently whenever there is any change.

I have a backwards compatibility issue with 4.3. It might turn out to be a
setup thing but I have verified that 4.2.1 works with my setup.
I have four basic test cases|:
 1. create network and vm on top - works
 2. create bridged network and create vm on it - works 3. create a vpc with
private gateway (and ...) - fails 4. create a vpc with nicira based private
 gateway - works

I haven't actually tried 1,2 and 4 on this rc because 3 was always giving me
the most problems. The others worked on the previous rc.
Having discussed this with Hugo, we'll probably not stop using 4.3 if it
 passes
 but it needs fixing asap.

the first time you are building noredist on your machine? If so, you need to
make sure that you have installed Vmware 5.1 SDK jar into your maven repo. Go
to your .m2/repository, you should find this:

http://docs.aws.amazon.com/general/latest/gr/rande.html, where it lists
all valid endpoint for Amazon S3, your endpoint is not the one for Ireland.

Hi Guys,

Any idea what's happening here? (see last two lines of log).

I haven't seeded sec storage, because it's going to be S3 based.

Unless you have to create NFS first and then migrate to it? But then the
option to 'not create nfs staging area' doesn't make sense...

Hey Joris - Appreciate your feedback and I think there is already and
enhancement filed for dynamic scaling controlled through compute offering -
Check https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-3941.
Since VCPUmax is configurable at cluster level, you can always set it to a
lower value depending on the load you are expecting in the cluster.

2014-02-10 Thread Rajesh Battala
Great to know its working fine for you.

Regarding the i/o error , your storage could have went offline hence you were
able to see the issue. And that's the reason for agents not showing in the
running status.

Thanks

 Hi Rajesh,

 Thanks for the replay,

After disabled the zone, I destroyed both system vm's and CS has

 It's working fine now.

What is the password to login to system vm's ?
Password I used to login with in system vm's of cloudstack 4.0.2,
seems to be not working here.

Can you make these changes in master branch on schema-430to440.sql file? Since
a RC has already been cut for 4.3, we can put these changes in 4.4 release so
that on upgrade from 4.3; these changes will come in.

Can you fix the id values to 225, 226 and 227? The current values go till
224. We can begin from there. Reason being the guest_os_hypervisor table refers
the field on this table by 'id'. It would be good to have fixed values for the
new os types.

Could you make separate entries for Windows 8.1 (32 bit). and Windows 8.1
(64 bit). Similarly for Windows Server 2012 R2. Similar pattern has been
followed for all windows sku.

When project/domains are created, our plugin code won't get invoked. Our
contrail plugin uses Event infrastructure provided by cloudstack to receive

domains/projects before creating a virtual network/vm object in contrail

Isolated network offering with services through VpcVirtualRouter

2014-02-10 Thread Gaurav Aradhye
Hello all,

I am trying to create Isolated Network Offering for adding a tier in VPC
(UseVPC: ON) and with services provided through VpcVirtualRouter. But no
matter what combination of services I select, it's throwing error Provider
VpcVirtualRouter doesn't support services combination: [x,y,z].

I tried for only one service, say DHCP along with sourceNAT, but still it
fails while creating service offering. I have observed this issue on KVM
and VMware 4.3.0.

Has anyone noticed this?

Regards,
Gaurav

Re: Review Request 16385: Fix for CloudStack JIRA 4406

2014-02-10 Thread Mandar Barve
Daan,
I am still failing to understand the use of static vars and setter
methods. If we do that then those vars will essentially become class vars
and not instance vars. Don't we want each API class to have a diff instance
var telling us if its sensitive or not? Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Mandar

H Mandar, some little issues applying, but mostly: the methods for setting
are not static yet and the scope of the variables themselves should be
 static as well.

  Bugs: CLOUDSTACK-4406
  https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-4406

  Repository: cloudstack-git

  Description
  ---

JIRA 4406 expects removal of cleanString() call for performance
improvements. This is called when building audit trail for command
responses and used for removing sensitive data (passwords, secret keys)
from the log buffer. All the API responses do not carry such sensitive
information so pattern matching done by cleanString against all API
 response strings can be costly.

I propose following for a solution:

  * Modify BaseCmd class to add flags that will store cmd/response
 sensitivity
  * At init these flags will be set to false indicating no cmd req/resp
 carries sensitive data
  * any child api cmd class that will carry sensitive data in the req/resp
 should set the respective flags
  * before calling any logging function the flag should be checked and
cleanString should be called only for cmds with flags set

Pro: This approach will scale well as new cmds get added and no
 additional changes should be required.
Con: Big change upfront as it will touch all API cmd classes that carry
sensitive information along with BaseCmd class.

NOTE: changes should be simple and straightforward though spread across
 multiple classes.
