RE: [scxml-eclipse] User Feedback

2010-07-29 Thread Christopher Dragert
I've gone through some of the basic functionality of the plug-in and generally
found it to be good. I have several points of feedback:

1) A small feature request: Can you display the event name on the diagam like
you do for a condition?

2) Transition properties list a "Target" field, which is blank, and a "Target
Status" field that is populated with State [statename]. Target and Target
Status do not make sense, and usage of the Target field causes an error.

3) There seems to be no way to have executable content on a transition. Is
this under development?

4) Seems to crash frequently and give out of memory errors, even while using
-Xmx1024m. I have to save and restart every minute or two.

Overall, it seems quite useful and I am grateful for all the hard work put into
this.

Regards,
Chris Dragert

Hi Chris,

You can find basic guide document here [1]. I think you should export SCXML
document from modeling document which contains tag 'targetConnection'.

Yup, better forum is the W3C public www-voice list here:

  http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-voice/

Note that this is shared for all specs from the VBWG (SCXML being one of them).

Re: [scxml-js] Question on Basic HTTP Event I/O Processor Specification

2010-07-29 Thread Jacob Beard

Hi,

I've discovered a few other potential issues with the external
communications module of the SCXML specification, but I'm wondering if
the Apache Commons mailing list is actually the best forum to discuss
them. A more appropriate forum might be one that deals specifically with
the specification, as opposed to the Apache Commons SCXML
implementation, and is open to anyone. As a model, I have in mind the
W3C SVG Interest Group .

Please let me know if something like this exists. If not, I'll post my
questions here. Thanks,

Jake

Hi,

I'm currently working on developing support for the External Communications
module of the SCXML specification for scxml-js, and I'm a bit confused about
Appendix H Basic HTTP Event I/O Processor
. It seems like there
may be a contradiction between H.2 Receiving Events, and H.3 Sending Events.

My interpretation of H.2 is as follows:

  1. The entire SCXML message would go in _content parameter of the
 HTTP POST data.
  2. Other parameters in the HTTP POST are platform specific.

Whereas H.3 seems to say that:

  1. Each individual variable name in the namelist attribute on the
 send element, or each individual param child, would be assigned
 its own HTTP POST parameter.
  2. The HTTP POST parameter "_content" would only be used if the
   element is present in the send.

So, to use G.1, Example 1 as an example, my understanding of H.2 would seem
to imply that the following would be body of the POST from the sender
(although it would need to be url-encoded):

_content=http://www.w3.org/2005/07/scxml";
version="1.0"
   xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance";
   xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.w3.org/2005/07/scxml scxml-message.xsd"
   source="http://scxml-processors.example.com/session1";
sourcetype="scxml"
   target="http://scxml-processors.example.com/session2"; type="scxml"
   sendid="send-123" name="email.send">

mailto:recipi...@example.com
http://www.example.com/mycontent.txt

Email headers
http://www.example.com/headers";>
arch...@example.com
Example email

Whereas H.3 would seem to imply that the following would be in the body of
the POST:

email=mailto:recipi...@example.com&;
content=http://www.example.com/mycontent.txt&;
xmlcontent=http://www.example.com/headers";>
arch...@example.com
Example email

It's not clear to me where the rest of the SCXML message would go in H.3

I'd appreciate it if you could please let me know which of these is the
correct interpretation. Thanks,

That Appendix needs to be improved, I will bring this up with the Working Group.

IMO, the H.2 variant above is complete and aligns with the SCXML I/O
message schema so if you have the associated bits already implemented
to generate and parse those messages you could reuse for the Basic
HTTP I/O processor (as in H.2) until we get a clarification response.

We should look into this issue before the GA:
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6969236

Do we look for "Sun Microsystems" anywhere in the project to help out system
utilities? It's changing to "Oracle" in JDK 7.

Well, this is exactly the point what we want to avoid. The beta release is
there for giving users an impression about the current state and to look for
feedback. I still expect the API to change. However, I'd rather discourage
everyone in using this for production already or publishing final releases
that use this version already. And remember, the artifact will not be
available at central and we might remove it after a certain time again once
3.0 is finally released.

The site can get changed separately from the release, so not a blocker
but definitely something to address.

  Releasing a beta version of the Lang 3.0 API for user feedback.
 There aren't any major API changes expected, unless the community
 raises them. The aim would be to _not_ put this in the Maven
 repository.

 Update from Beta-1:
 --
 findbugs-filter file now in src zip.
 NOTICE updated to identify Spring license.
 Website updated to cover Beta release.
 EventSupport code rewritten
 artifactId changed to commons-lang3
 svn:eol-style fixed on CharSequenceUtils code
 code cleanup (autoboxing, unnecessary cast, javadoc tweaking)
 --

 Update from Beta-2:
 --
 documentation improvement for EventSupport code
 Updated release notes
 --

 SVN tag:

  http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/commons/proper/lang/tags/LANG_3_0_B3/

 Signed downloads:

 Site:

 The build still isn't making checksums for me, so I had to create by
 hand with OpenSSL.
