Re: [C/C EU 2024] Who is going to run the ASF table?

2024-04-30 Thread Sharan F
Hi Jean-Fred

I included DevBcn in the request to spend some of the comdev budget. I know
last time we printed some larger stickers for tomcat, Cassandra and Kafka
and it seemed to work well so will do the same again.

Will connect with you offline to see if we can also include any giveaways.

Thanks
Sharan

Hi Roman

Great to hear you will be there!

I haven't created a wiki page yet as I have applied for an ASF booth at
FOSDEM but haven't had any confirmation that we have got one yet.

They have announced the accepted Devrooms but not which Stands/booths are
accepted so we need to wait until the 20th November to find out.

Thanks

Re: ASF booth at OpenSource Experience Paris

2023-10-04 Thread Sharan F
Hi Olivier

We've had a booth at this event a few times in the past and it was good. I
think we also did a track there too once. Not sure if we needed a contract
though..

Are there any special conditions?

If it's about promoting the event via social media then we have previously
done this via the Comdev accounts plus we can also ask M&P to post
something via the main foundation accounts.

Thanks
Sharan

Re: FOSDEM 2023

2023-02-02 Thread Sharan F
Hi Arnout

Thanks for volunteering to help with booth setup.

Booth setup starts at around 8.30am on Saturday morning and we need to have
everything setup by 10am. At the end of the day we need to close and leave
by around 5.30pm.

Our booth is located in K building and we have position 11. I am planning
to get there between 8.30am and 9am.

I am bringing a table cloth and banner with the ASF logos. Those don't take
too long to setup. I also have hundreds of stickers and some swag that we
need to put out and ration throughout the day.

Yes it would be good to have a few more people sign up for time on the
booth as it can get really tiring and everyone needs a break after a couple
of hours.

Hopefully see you over the weekend.

Thanks
Sharan

Re: possible booth at the JBCNConf 2022 July , 18-20.

2022-06-13 Thread Sharan F
Hi Bobur

Thanks for the follow up I think Jean-Frederic was also planning to
attend.

Over the weekend I did send an email to Jean-Frederic to check the status
of getting the ASF banner for the booth and also to organise sending some
stickers and swag for the event. So was waiting for a response from him.

The event is not far away so I will need to know very soon if we are
participating with a booth so I can get things shipped in time.

Thanks
Sharan

Re: possible booth at the JBCNConf 2022 July , 18-20.

2022-05-17 Thread Sharan F
Hi Jean-Frederic

We did have some rollup banners printed for events and volunteers were
storing them in various locations. I think there was a Comdev wiki page
with the details so will see if I can find it.

If not then i will check with the Comdev PMC if we can spend some of our
budget on getting you a banner, flyers and swag for the event.

On the branding side when we participate in events like this we do it as a
'community partner'

Thanks
Sharan

Hi Tanmay

Thanks very much for the suggestion and I think a small contest would be
great if we had more time. Unfortunately we do need the graphic this week
so if we can use something that already exists it would be a lot easier.

Thanks

possibility to include a logo inside it as a sign of support for the ASF.

Thanks

Re: Apache Roadshow India in 2020?

2019-06-03 Thread Sharan F
Hi Saransh

Thanks for the feedback. I see this roadshow a bit like a proof of concept
with the focus being on the attendance of local people. At most I would
expect it will be 2 days long which probably means a limited number of
people outside India participating.

If we have Apache people in this area (and feedback so far is that we do)
then I think it could be good to do it there, as that is what our roadshows
are all about - doing smaller scale events in places where Apache
communities are.

Thanks
Sharan

Re: ASF Application for Google Season of Docs 2019

2019-04-05 Thread Sharan F
Hi All

It sounds like people would like us to add the ASF application back in, so
as long as we have some documentation project ideas (and I have seen a few
already :-) then we can do it.

Unfortunately about 20 minutes ago my laptop suddenly died so I only have
my phone which makes it a bit more difficult to set up things like the
wiki page for the application and ideas so if someone else can do that it
would be great.

Thanks
Sharan

Re: Community Google Calendar

Hi Rich

I have been adding events to it that people have notified me or the Comdev
list about.

I think it would be great to get a few more people active so we can share
the work. Also someone mentioned to me the possibility of using colour
coding to distinguish between Apache specific and third party events so
perhaps a future discussion point.

Thanks

Apache EU Roadshow CFP Closing Soon (23 February)

2018-02-14 Thread Sharan F

Hello Everyone

This is an initial reminder to let you all know that we are holding an
Apache EU Roadshow co-located with FOSS Backstage in Berlin on 13^th and
14^th June 2018. https://s.apache.org/tCHx

The Call for Proposals (CFP) for the Apache EU Roadshow is currently
open and will close at the end of next week, so if you have been
delaying making a submission because the closing date seemed a long way
off, then it's time to start getting your proposals submitted.

So what are we looking for?
We will have 2 Apache Devrooms available during the 2 day Roadshow so
are looking for projects including incubating ones, to submit
presentations, panel discussions, BoFs, or workshop proposals. The main
focus of the Roadshow will be IoT, Cloud, Httpd and Tomcat so if your
project is involved in or around any of these technologies at Apache
then we are very interested in hearing from you.

Community and collaboration is important at Apache so if your project is
interested in organising a project sprint, meetup or hackathon during
the Roadshow, then please submit it inthe CFP as we do have some space
available to allocate for these.

If you are wanting to submit a talk on open source community related
topics such as the Apache Way, governance or legal aspects then please
submit these to the CFP for FOSS Backstage.

Tickets for the Apache EU Roadshow are included as part of the
registration for FOSS Backstage, so to attend the Roadshow you will need
to register for FOSS Backstage. Early Bird tickets are still available
until the 21^st February 2018.

Thanks Isabel. I think we could provide some great content for the main

I'm still thinking about the devroom name. The Apache brand is a strong
one so I'd going to incorporate our name in there somehow

Hi,

In light of this discussion I reached out to the organisers of the

being run at the ASF. They asked me to "Please encourage any potential
speakers you can think of to respond to our call for papers with
proposals:

So if anyone of you would like to be at FOSDEM, please also consider
submitting not only to dev rooms but to the main track as well. Talks
tend to be routed to relevant rooms if declined though frab anyway.

Why is having a main track cool: back when I did mine that included
travel and lodging covered plus speaker dinner.

Re: Draft Proposal for FOSDEM Devroom

2017-09-12 Thread Sharan F

Hi Kevin

All the rooms are free which is why there is such a high demand for
them. The location is in a university so the rooms can vary a lot from
lecture theatre size (which I think they keep for the main tracks) and
to various smaller sized classrooms. I can ask the organisers the
question about holding a beer/wine/cheese event to see if that OK just
in case there are any restrictions.

Perhaps a 2 hour block for something to discuss meritocracy and

Hi Isabel

I didn't have anything fixed in mind but off the top of my head – the
Apache Way, licensing and trademarks (as that has been in the news
lately) and perhaps something related to incubator. We could also do
something collaborative or community related – eg hackathon, meetup etc
so depends on the feedback I get from this thread.

FOSDEM 2017 Open Source Conference - Brussels

2017-01-12 Thread Sharan F

Hello Everyone

This email is to tell you about ASF participation at FOSDEM. The event
will be held in Brussels on 4^th & 5^th February 2017 and we are hoping
that many people from our ASF projects will be there.

https://fosdem.org/2017/

Attending FOSDEM is completely free and the ASF will again be running a
booth there. Our main focus will on talking to people about the ASF, our
projects and communities.

*_Why Attend FOSDEM?_*
Some reasons for attending FOSDEM are:

1. Promoting your project: FOSDEM has up to 4-5000 attendees so is a
great place to spread the word about your project
2. Learning, participating and meeting up: FOSDEM is a developers
conference so includes presentations covering a range of
technologies and includes lots of topic specific devrooms

_*FOSDEM Wiki *_
A page on the Community Development wiki has been created with the main
details about our involvement at conference, so please take a look

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/COMDEV/FOSDEM+2017

If you would like to spend some time on the ASF booth promoting your
project then please sign up on the FOSDEM wiki page. Initially we would
like to split this into slots of 3-4 hours but this will depend on the
number of projects that are represented.

We are also looking for volunteers to help out on the booth over the 2
days of the conference, so if you are going to be there and are willing
to help then please add your name to the volunteer list.

_*Project Stickers*_
If you are going to be at FOSDEM and do not have any project stickers to
give away then we may (budget permitting) be able to help you get some
printed. Please contact me with your requirements.

_*Social Event*_
Some people have asked about organising an ASF social event / meetup
during the conference. This is possible but we will need know how many
people are interested and which date works best. The FOSDEM wiki page
also contains an 'Arrival / Departure' section so so please add your
details if you would like to participate.

I hope this helps people see some of the advantages of attending FOSDEM
and we are looking forward to seeing lots of people there from our ASF
communities.

Thanks
Sharan

Results: ASF Committer Diversity Survey

2016-12-19 Thread Sharan F

Hello Everyone

A big thank you to everyone that has helped or participated in getting
the Committer Diversity Survey out, and also to all the committers that
responded to the survey. It has been really good to be able to collect
this information and see what it tells us about our committer base.

I've loaded the main data and graphs from the survey onto the Community
Development wiki (see link below)

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/COMDEV/ASF+Committer+Diversity+Survey+-+2016

In total we received 765 responses (out of a 5861 committer base at the
time the survey was run) so around a 13% response rate.

We also got 111 feedback comments of which 29 did not give their
permission to share or from quote their comments.

I've categorised all the comments into various themes / topics with the
main ones as follows:

1. Suggestions for improvements within the ASF
2. Suggestions for improvements to the survey (or any future ones)
3. Thanks / positive feedback about the ASF and/or survey
4. Feedback and ideas around diversity

Next steps will be:

 * Continue to analyse the information and identify any potential
   Community Development related actions
 * Start discussion threads on the various themes and topics raised to
see if they will result in additional actions
 * Discuss feedback and diversity ideas and if necessary, integrate
   into diversity strategy

Thanks
Sharan

Re: [REMINDER] ASF Committers Diversity Survey Closes on Sunday 11th December 2016

2016-12-09 Thread Sharan F

Hi Sally

Thanks for extra reminders and yes I set the reply to our dev list based
on a suggestion from infra. They mentioned that the committers list is
only for announcements and wouldn't accept any discussion responses.

Thanks
Sharan

Subject: [REMINDER] ASF Committers Diversity Survey Closes on Sunday 11th
December 2016

   Hello again Apache Committers

This is a reminder about our Apache Committers Diversity Survey. The survey has been open since Monday 28th November 2016 and closes on Sunday 11th December 2016.

Thank you very much to everyone that has taken the time to respond and so far we have had 585 responses out of our committer base of 5861.

If you haven't already taken the survey then I would encourage you to do so.

- There are only 9 multiple choice questions

- It takes less than 5 minutes to complete

- All questions have a 'Prefer not to say' option for any question that you do not want to answer

- Your Apache ID is validated by our own internal ASF infrastructure and is not passed externally to the survey tool (This keeps the survey anonymous but restricts access to ASF committers only)

- This is the first ever opportunity that we have had to collect this information and the results could really help the Community Development team and the ASF get a better picture of the diversity of our committer base

If you would like to take the survey, then please click the link below:

  Diversity Survey Link

Once again, thank you for your support and I hope that we can get even more responses before the survey closes on Sunday.

  Thanks

  Sharan

ASF Stand for FOSDEM 2017

2016-11-27 Thread Sharan F

Hi Everyone

A quick update - the application for an ASF stand at FOSDEM 2017 has
been accepted. I actually applied for two tables like we had at FOSDEM
earlier this year but they have been oversubscribed so had to reduce it
only one.

Thanks
Sharan

Hi Sharan,

The FOSDEM stands team is glad to be able to inform you that your request
for a stand for The Apache Software Foundation has been accepted.
There will be one table reserved for you.

We have received almost twice as many proposals as we could accept.
In order to be able to accept more projects, we have reduced most
requests for multiple tables to only one table.

You will receive further information about what's expected of you
closer to the event date.

Looking forward to seeing you at FOSDEM 2017!

Best regards,

Johan van Selst

Re: Draft Blog Post Re: Upcoming Committer Diversity Survey

2016-11-23 Thread Sharan F

Hi Betrand

Thanks for the feedback and clarification. I'll update it to highlight
it as a comdev initiative.

Thanks
Sharan

I would prefer mentioning "The Community Development team (or PMC) of
the ASF" as the source of this, as it's really a comdev initiative so
far. Foundation-wide things are driven by the Board or our Press team.
