Re: [TIME SENSITIVE] ASF at OpenExpo/Madrid?

2019-04-24 Thread Sally Khudairi
Thanks, Jim. That's good to know!

They didn't know if we were committed for a booth or talks or anything ...it
was a bit awkward. Yes, there'd been a changing of the guard with the marketing
team a few years back (hello, initial eCatalogue fiasco!), and an overall
scheduling disconnect that makes participation challenging.

As for Ignasi's statement of having to continually answer the "Why are you
here?" question, Jim, you and I have had our fair share of that over the past 2
decades ...it's a common one, and would likely help drive specific
messaging/promotional materials for the less "usual suspect" events such as
this.

Something to consider when planning for future events.

Kind regards,
Sally

FWIW, I was also invited to the event but due to the shortness of notice, I was
unable to arrange travel in time.

Can someone please confirm if we will be participating at OpenExpo Europe
this year? I don't see it listed at http://community.apache.org/calendars/
(I might be looking in the wrong place)

They are asking me (again) about cross promotion, and I won't be getting
involved unless we're at the event. Do we plan on speaking? Having a booth?

 Many thanks,
 Sally

2019-04-24 Thread Sally Khudairi
Thanks, Kevin and Ignasi.

Each year seems to become more compressed. The urgency associated with their
request --8-10 weeks away from the event-- indicates a bit of a scramble going
on.

OK, I'll confirm that this is a "sorry, no" for 2019 and move on.

Kind regards,
Sally

Yeah, next year I will submit a cfp and maybe we can get an earlier notice
for the ebook and others. This year just seemed very compressed and I
would like to help their efforts more.

Re: [TIME SENSITIVE] ASF at OpenExpo/Madrid?

2019-04-24 Thread Ignasi Barrera
Given that there has been no feedback in the other thread apart from mine,
I think we are not going to be there this year.

The event has a clear focus on business and open source is becoming kind of
a marketing vehicle for them. As I said before if this event becomes a
truly relevant one, I think it would make sense for us to be there and
share our vision on open source, but it is still far from being there.
There is still some value in being there sharing our vision and explaining
what the ASF is, as there was quite a lot of people coming to the booth in
the past editions, but I don't think it is worth the effort for a single
person given how the event is shaped today. At least I don't see _just
myself_ the entire day staying at the booth answering "why is the ASF in
this event?" and similar questions.
