Indeed, and I should have mentioned him by his name, my mistake.

The point was to list the active committers, to allow a quick diff with
the list of inactive committers, so that we can mail them to ask them

It’s good that anyone who gets moved are welcome back anytime. Just by asking
(and doing).

I can help too, if need be.

Regarding moving people to Emeritus, I'm all in for that: it will
reflect the current status of the project.

Changing the web page is easy. A bit harder is deciding which members
are moved.

Also, where do we draw the line, do they retain committer privileges?

Commit privilege is easy to add if needed.

Not sure what the process is here.

There is no process, we do whatever we want as a project, assuming we
inform the committers.

The idea is to ask ever committer if they accept to switch their status
to emeritus.
We can consider that anyone who have not been active in the past 3 years
should move to emeritus, unless they ask to remain a committer.

Bottom line, it's a volunteer based community. We don't force people to
be there, we don't force people to quit. Anyone who want to remain as a
committer is welcomed. Becoming emeritus is not punitive, it just sets a
status which can be changed later on.

Broken Links on Website and Inactive Members

2023-05-11 Thread Shawn McKinney
Hello,

Broken links on a website are akin to a broken window in a building. Signs of
disrepair, and worse, possible security hole.

My proposal is simple, fix them. If it’s just wrong, change it. If it’s no
longer active, meaning the entity no longer exists, remove it altogether.

One of the biggest problems is the team page.

Absent committers and pmc notwithstanding, many of the blog and website links
are broken.

My proposal is to remove the links that don’t resolve on that page. Change it
if there’s an obvious fix, or delete it otherwise.

I also believe we should start moving members into Emeritus status. Lets keep
it simple for now. If they haven’t been active in say the last 10 years, move
them.

I’m all for keeping up appearances and honoring past merit. But, there’s no
point in listing people as active in our project, who’ve been gone for that
long.
