[documentation-dev] With regret
Hi Jean, All. It is with much regret that I say that I am having to pull out of the documentation project. There have been some big changes in my personal life that prevent me for continuing to support the project. Hopefully I will be able to return at some point in time. I have really enjoyed working with you all and hope to do so again. Some one else will have to pickup the ones from the Dev list that wish to help. I am familiar with the opensource software known as scribus, and since i can go back and forth between it and openoffice, I know of weaknesses and strengths of both. While I know how to use much of the software in openoffice, I am looking for instructions on how to switch back and forth quickly between single and double-columned pages. One of the strengths of scribus is the ease of using layers, like in GIMP or in photoshop. If openoffice could add layers, it would be a very, very strong program program. Weaknesses in scribus are its tendency to crash suddenly, and the problems encountered (sometimes) in exporting to pdf format. Neither of these weaknesses are detected in openoffice. While I doubt that these are matters relevant to the goals of this discussion board, they would be if they could be eliminated Any response is appreciated, especially if it is useful. Ray McInnis http://www.woodworkinghistory.com Hi Ray, You need to use page styles, one or more with single column and one or more with two columns. When you need to switch use Insert Manual Break. Select Page break and under Style select the proper page style for the next page. You can find all the users manuals for Writer 3.# are at [1], select the ones for your version. The OooWiki uses Books for this, but someone has to create the Book - they cannot (at this point) be auto-generated. You can create your own custom Book, ether by: - adding each individual page and generating a PDF or ODT - adding one page, saving the book, and then editing the book file adding each Wiki article in the book syntax. Looking to add these to a disk I am putting together for ALA. Not yet. I keep trying to get to them and getting distracted by other issues. One prob I can't seem to get around is a render server error. The ODT rendering is done outside of our control, on the PediaPress server. Whatever is going on there... well, basically it just gives me a python error dump instead of the ODT. I'll keep chasing it with PediaPress, but... I don't know when it'll be resolved. Once this is fixed, I can put together an Admin Guide in a couple hours.. the Dev Guide takes a lot longer (a couple of days) since it's so huge. I should make a few small changes to the Basic Guide too before it's included on a CD or DVD... nothing major... just little cosmetic tweaks. C. Thanks for the information. I will keep an eye on the wiki and grab copies when your done. Got some time so no hurry. Re: [documentation-dev] Ruling against Google in Italy
Claire Wood wrote: Hi All Thought you might find this interesting if you haven't already seen it. Basically Google bosses were prosecuted in Italy under Italian privacy laws and found guilty because a video showing an autistic boy being bullied had been posted on their site. The people who had posted it though just got expelled from school. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8533695.stm This is bad as it places the actions of a person on the space providers. In the US there was a lawsuit against an provider, the ruling said that as long as the provider did not moderate they were not responsible of what was posted. The person(s) posting the video should have been the ones prosecuted. But then that is one difference between the US and Italy law.
