I have enabled an ant main build, added a TLF job and cleaned up a lot of
small issues with the mustella job.

The build is running and I need to go to sleep now. I will check it in the
morning.

 Checking it in would make it a more turnkey solution (I sound like a
 salesman :-) ) which would make it easier to run it on other VMs without
 having to copy the file on to each VM.

Sorry but this is a Flash Player issue not an Apache Flex SDK issue and we are

 Context3D::setSamplerStateAt parameters missing in API
 --

 Key: FLEX-33583
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLEX-33583
 Project: Apache Flex
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: 3D Support
Affects Versions: Adobe Flex SDK 4.6 (Release)
 Environment: All environments
Reporter: Gary Paluk
  Labels: api-change, incomplete, sampler, states
 Fix For: Adobe Flex SDK 4.6 (Release)

 Their are missing parameters Context3D::setSamplerStateAt API
 When looking at the general parameters sent as sampler state using AGAL, you
 will notice 5 possible parameters that define the state.
 cube,linear,mipnearest,clamp,dxt1
 The current setSamplerStateAt() API signature is as follows:
 public function setSamplerStateAt(sampler:int, wrap:String, filter:String,
 mipfilter:String):void
 Without all of the necessary state parameters, it deems the functionality as
 incomplete and unable to perform required functions needed to decouple and
 manage sampler state at runtime. Having this functionality would be in line
 with standard practices and provide the ability to reuse shaders for
 different texture types and allow for samplers to be derived after the the
 texture type has been derived, both of which are assumed fundamental to
 sampler state management.

 DividedBox call to getDividerAt(num) encounters null reference when no

Affects Versions: Adobe Flex SDK 3.0 (Release)
 Environment: Affected OS(s): Windows
 Affected OS(s): Windows XP
 Browser: Firefox 2.x
 Language Found: English
Reporter: Adobe JIRA

 Fix For: Apache Flex 4.10.0

 What I am doing is programatically adding items to an HDividedBox. There may
 or may not be any components added to the dividerbox. Then later when I make
 a call to getDividerAt(i) I get the exception. I believe the member
 dividedLayer of DividedBox is null since nothing was added to it.
 Steps to reproduce:
 1. Create a DividedBox, or in my case an HDividedBox
 2. Make a call to the divider.getDividerAt(some number)
 3. It blows up with a null reference. The null reference actually being the
 dividerLayer.

  Actual Results:
  TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object
 reference.

  Expected Results:
  I would expect to get a null value returned to me if either there was no
 dividerLayer or the item at the index was null.

  Workaround (if any):
  From what I can tell there is no getDividerCount method to check before
 making the call.

 Placing list item renderers on certain negative z coordinates results in a
 Flash Player crash.
 --

 Key: FLEX-28976
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLEX-28976
 Project: Apache Flex
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: 3D Support
Affects Versions: Adobe Flex SDK 4.5.1 (Release)
 Environment: Affected OS(s): Windows
 Affected OS(s): Windows 7
 Browser: Firefox 3.x
 Language Found: English
Reporter: Adobe JIRA
  Labels: easytest

 The issue is related to applying custom 3d layouts on a Spark list. If the
 layout sets a negative z coordinate to a list item, FP crashes. The crash
 occurs only for certain coordinates that appear to be related to the
 perspective projection's focal length. E.g. for a focal length of 480, if z
 coordinate = -457, app crashes, otherwise not. Another example is for focal
 length of 200 and a limit of -190 on z.
 Note that the crash only occurs when setting the layout on a Spark list with
 an item renderer containing an Image control(Spark or MX; a simple Spark
 BitmapImage doesn't seem to trigger the crash).
 Also, the crash occurs only on machines that have fp 11.1.102.55 installed
 (Chrome, Firefox, IE9, release and debugger). On 11.0.1.152 and previous
 versions, the crash doesn't happen. The app was compiled with
 playerglobal.swc for both 10.3 and 11, with the same results.
 I've attached a simple test case that illustrates this behavior.

 When compiling on a shared environment (Linux), a common directory,
 /tmp/Adobe, is created which causes compilation conflicts and permission
 issues.
 --

 Key: FLEX-14805
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLEX-14805
 Project: Apache Flex
  Issue Type: Bug
  Components: .Unspecified - Compiler, Runtime Localization
Affects Versions: Adobe Flex SDK 3.0 (Release)
 Environment: Affected OS(s): Linux
 Affected OS(s): Linux RedHat
 Language Found: English
Reporter: Adobe JIRA
  Labels: easyfix, easytest

 Steps to reproduce:
 Some Java class file involved in the generation of a dynamic resource bundle
 SFW file creates this directory:

 /tmp/Adobe/Flex/GeneratedResourceModules

 It places some temporary files in that directory and then deletes when the
 SWF is generated.
 here is a sample of the compile command:

 /bin/mxmlc -locale=en_US
  -source-path=MY_SOURCE_DIR/rss_showviewer/resources/en_US

 -include-resource-bundles=collections,containers,controls,core,effects,resources,skins,styles

 -output=MY_HOME_DIR/app/resources/en_US/showViewerResources_en_US.swf

  Actual Results:
 The actual directory does NOT get deleted. The owner of the directory is
 the Linux user account who started the resource SWF compile. No other users
 have write permissions to that directory. As a result, another user who then
 attempts to compile the SWFs will get some java Null Pointer exception
 stemming from the fact that the compiler was unable to create a file in that
 directory.

  Expected Results:
 The directory should get deleted.

  Workaround (if any):
  The workaround is to manually delete the directory or grant the necessary
 read and write permissions to the appropriate user accounts.

Could someone document the steps needed to resolve the issue? If you could
assume a developer downloaded the compiled SDK, what do they need to do in
order to get a project referencing RemoteObject to compile?

The steps 1-6 as described above is not the recommended way to install the SDK.
Not sure what is an easy way to resolver the issue, but a warning along the
lines of Missing remote object library in getMessagingClasses would probably
be the best solution. i.e. Change the MXMLC compiler.

Mark Piller commented on FLEX-33083:

I still do not understand what the solution is. Here is what I did (and I
assume many other developers would do):

1. Downloaded the installer of the Flex SDK from the Apache site (v. 4.9.1)
2. Ran the installer with all the default settings (included all the Required
components)
3. Created a basic project in Flash Builder which references the RemoteObject
class
4. The project fails with the error referenced in the description of the ticket.

I assume the problem is with the missing flex-messaging-common.jar. I copied
that file into the FLEXSDK 4.9.1 DIR/lib/ directory. Restarted Flash Builder,
the problem is still there. Any ideas?

[jira] [Updated] (FLEX-33558) CameraUI slow return to flex application on certain devices

2013-06-05 Thread Jesse Hellyer (JIRA)

Jesse Hellyer updated FLEX-33558:

Description:
I have been having very slow results with the CameraUI in flex. Initially, I
was using version 3.1 which was VERY buggy, and I was running into erroring out
returning from the CameraUI, and very slow speeds.

I have since downloaded and installed the newest Apache Flex framework, 4.9.1.
 The CameraUI returns VERY fast on our Samsung Tab 7.1 that we bought a few
months ago. On an older Droid Charge phone, that is up to date with updates,
it takes 30-40 seconds to return from the CameraUI into my code. Same with an
iPhone 4 running iOS 6.1.

The line in question is marked in yellow below:
mpLoader.loadFilePromise(mediaPromise);

Essentially, I call the cameraUI when the user hits a button. The native
camera interface opens up right away. A picture is taken. On iOS and Android
both, you have to “save” or “use” the picture. Once you click that button in
the native UI, the camera holds on a black screen for a long time (up to 30
seconds or so). That’s where the error seems to be,
mpLoader.loadFilePromise(mediaPromise);

You can see in the code I have put output statements to a label showing where
the code is hanging. It hangs right after it writes out -16

Here is the code:

https://gist.github.com/MrJesse34/5577978

And here is the XML config file:

https://gist.github.com/MrJesse34/5627336

Here is a video of the behavior on my iPhone: http://youtu.be/5NuJt-JXT7M

Note the delay of the busy indicator - it happens right as the
mpLoader.loadFilePromise(mediaPromise); code is ran.

mpLoader.loadFilePromise(mediaPromise) is a method in AIR and not the Apache
Flex SDK There's probably very little that Apache Flex can do about this issue
as it looks to be an AIR runtime issue or and issue with non SDK code (eg
JPEGEncoder). Different versions of AIR on different phones perform
differently - are you using captive runtime?

Re: checkin tests filing on Linux

Hi,

 I think the test is taking a bare low-level Flash array and sorting it,
 then taking an ArrayCollection and applying a sort to it, and the order
in
 both should match.
Yep I got that but exactly why should they match?

One is using the internalCompare method in spark.collections.Sort which
ends up using ObjectUtils.stringCompare which uses the Flash native
function localeCompare. The other is doing an array sort using the
collate method returned from flash.globilization.Collator(en_us).
Normally I guess they should return the same results but I can't see that
they would have to.
Interesting. I expected them to match because I thought we'd wired up the
AC sort behavior to use the flash.globalization classes. If you step
through this on the Mac it goes into localeCompare?

The code for CompilerAPI.java:1730 implies that you have a services-config.xml
file but no channel-definition tags in it (and make sure they aren't all
commented out either). It could also be that something else is wrong with the
match up of the class specified in the channel-definition and what classes are
available in the SWCs.

Seems like it. But why do other Jenkins builds dont have this problem? I
will see if if I can resolve this on the VM later today.

Thanks,
Om

[jira] [Commented] (FLEX-33558) CameraUI slow return to flex application on certain devices

How do I know that this is an AIR method? I am using the captive runtime, its
the only option that Flash Builder allows me to do when compiling for iOS.

I wouldn't be using the JPEGEncoder as non-SDK code, but the SDK code causes
NUMEROUS memory leaks and other issues, and its much much much slower than the
one I am using that is non standard. Like 5x slower. I would prefer not to
have to JPEG encode it at all, but I need the data in a format that I can read.
  Do you have any suggestions on where I can go from here? Has anyone ever
gotten CameraUI to work correctly for themselves in a release version app?

 CameraUI slow return to flex application on certain devices
 ---

 Key: FLEX-33558
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLEX-33558
 Project: Apache Flex
  Issue Type: Bug
Affects Versions: Apache Flex 4.9.0
 Environment: See below
Reporter: Jesse Hellyer
  Labels: camera, cameraui
 Attachments: JPEGEncoder.as, KPMMobileApplication-app.xml,
 MobileData2.as, SDK_4.9.1-testing.fxp, _Super_MobileData2.as,
 ViewExistingRegistrationRequests.mxml, ViewProductRegistrationIOS.mxml

 I have been having very slow results with the CameraUI in flex. Initially,
 I was using version 3.1 which was VERY buggy, and I was running into erroring
 out returning from the CameraUI, and very slow speeds.
 I have since downloaded and installed the newest Apache Flex framework,
 4.9.1. The CameraUI returns VERY fast on our Samsung Tab 7.1 that we bought
 a few months ago. On an older Droid Charge phone, that is up to date with
 updates, it takes 30-40 seconds to return from the CameraUI into my code.
 Same with an iPhone 4 running iOS 6.1.
 The line in question is marked in yellow below:
 mpLoader.loadFilePromise(mediaPromise);
 Essentially, I call the cameraUI when the user hits a button. The native
 camera interface opens up right away. A picture is taken. On iOS and
 Android both, you have to “save” or “use” the picture. Once you click that
 button in the native UI, the camera holds on a black screen for a long time
 (up to 30 seconds or so). That’s where the error seems to be,
 mpLoader.loadFilePromise(mediaPromise);
 You can see in the code I have put output statements to a label showing where
 the code is hanging. It hangs right after it writes out -16
 Here is the code:
 https://gist.github.com/MrJesse34/5577978
 And here is the XML config file:
 https://gist.github.com/MrJesse34/5627336
 Here is a video of the behavior on my iPhone:
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QufH1ElqXo
 the issue starts at :30 and ends around :50
 you can see the busy indicator stops spinning for that time
 Note the delay of the busy indicator - it happens right as the
 mpLoader.loadFilePromise(mediaPromise); code is ran.

[OT] - open flash library announcement.

2013-06-05 Thread sébastien Paturel

Hi all,
Sorry for the off topic, even if for me its not off topic at all, but a
possible path for future of flex.

Here is a presentation from Joshua Granick announcing openFL the open
flash library project.

http://www.silexlabs.org/142542/the-blog/blog-silex-labs/wwx2013-speech-joshua-granick-openfl-announcement/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AtmdGbQkTQ

Its an interesting thinking about the flash history, and the future for
cross platform strategy.
OpenFL (ex NME) is a project to mimic the flash API on every target
natively without the need of a plugin (or even an embeded VM)
its based on haxe programming language, made entirely to be efficiently
cross platform compiling. with a lot of modern language features.
At the end of his presentation, theres a question about porting flex to
openFL.

Joshua said almost everything i think myself about flash/HTML5/cross
platform which is:
- the plugin/VM way of targeting cross platform was great in the 90s but
is not good solution anymore in the new mobile platform world. Cross
compilation and using native runtime directly is the way now.
- the GPU is the best way to do cross platform efficient display for the
near future (once webGL is supported everywhere). Its the future
standard (and its more consistent standard than others in my opinion)
- haxe language is the evolution of as3 language that Adobe should have
created.
- flash is a zombi technology as a runtime solution. But the api is
still good enough, and the whole ecosystem that was based on those
runtimes like every libraries made in as3 is still relevant but has no
relevant runtime anymore to run on it for the long term.
Theres an orphan community since Adobe has taken the HTML5 path for
everything that is not gaming. (BTW flash game dev can and do switch to
haxe for performances and native cross platform targetting easiness)

The last piece that we need is a as3 - haxe auto convertion tool to
give second life of actual flash content, and propose a smooth
transition path for the future out of Adobe runtimes.

In one word i would say that what they try to do with haxe/openFL is
what i would have liked Adobe do to give a live of their flash ecosystem
in an HTML5 world (a no plugin / VM word).

This was my humble opinion. Feel free to disagree, but i wanted to share
the joshua's presentation with flex community.

Seb

ps:
to complete, this is the presentation from nicolas Cannasse about haxe
itself:

http://www.silexlabs.org/140469/the-blog/wwx2013-speech-nicolas-cannasse-what-is-haxe/
he defines haxe as a cross platform toolkit as a core technology for
cross platform strategy on which openFL is built, on which a future flex
could be built (IMO).

Alex Harui commented on FLEX-33083:

Well, technically, Flash Builder 4.5 isn't supported for Apache Flex, but it
shouldn't be a factor for this scenario. I updated mxmlc to show more
information for this exception. I've attached an updated mxmlc.jar which you
can use to replace the one in the lib folder of your Apache Flex SDK. If you
compile the app from the command line you should see a better error message. I
couldn't find an easy way to get that better information into the console, log,
or problems pane.

When I compile your project from the command line, I now get:
flex.messaging.config.ConfigurationException: channel not found for reference
'weborb-rtmp-messaging' in destination 'SampleRTMPDestination'.

You didn't mention if you are using Blaze or DataServices and which version.
I'm not sure why with Adobe Flex 4.6 you aren't seeing this same problem, but
it could be that I still don't have your test case set up properly. I only set
up to use Blaze 4, not DataServices or whatever Adobe calls it these days.

 CameraUI slow return to flex application on certain devices
 ---

 Key: FLEX-33558
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLEX-33558
 Project: Apache Flex
  Issue Type: Bug
Affects Versions: Apache Flex 4.9.0
 Environment: See below
Reporter: Jesse Hellyer
  Labels: camera, cameraui
 Attachments: JPEGEncoder.as, KPMMobileApplication-app.xml,
 MobileData2.as, SDK_4.9.1-testing.fxp, _Super_MobileData2.as,
 ViewExistingRegistrationRequests.mxml, ViewProductRegistrationIOS.mxml

 I have been having very slow results with the CameraUI in flex. Initially,
 I was using version 3.1 which was VERY buggy, and I was running into erroring
 out returning from the CameraUI, and very slow speeds.
 I have since downloaded and installed the newest Apache Flex framework,
 4.9.1. The CameraUI returns VERY fast on our Samsung Tab 7.1 that we bought
 a few months ago. On an older Droid Charge phone, that is up to date with
 updates, it takes 30-40 seconds to return from the CameraUI into my code.
 Same with an iPhone 4 running iOS 6.1.
 The line in question is marked in yellow below:
 mpLoader.loadFilePromise(mediaPromise);
That’s where the error seems to be,
 mpLoader.loadFilePromise(mediaPromise);

Mark Piller commented on FLEX-33083:

You are correct, there was a non-existing channel referenced in a messaging
destination. I cleaned up the config, but the error is still there. I also
updated mxmlc.jar you provided, but it didn't help.
When I compile the project with Flex SDK 4.9.1 (with the updated mxmlc.jar
file), I get the following:

mark-pillers-macbook-pro:weborb.codegen.test mark$
~/dev/Flex_AIR_SDKs/flex_sdk_4.9.1/bin/mxmlc -compiler.source-path=./src
-compiler.services=./config/services-config.xml src/main.mxml
Loading configuration file
/Users/mark/dev/Flex_AIR_SDKs/flex_sdk_4.9.1/frameworks/flex-config.xml
Error: null

However, when I build exactly the same project with Flex SDK 4.6, it works just
fine (the command line arguments and the project are identical with Flex 4.9.1):
mark-pillers-macbook-pro:weborb.codegen.test mark$
~/dev/Flex_AIR_SDKs/flex_sdk_4.6/bin/mxmlc -compiler.source-path=./src
-compiler.services=./config/services-config.xml src/main.mxml

Re: Multidimensional States

2013-06-05 Thread jude
This became a long email. TLDR section at the end.

I went back and checked on the inherits property and it turns out it is
basedOn. I don't remember seeing any documentation on this but it appears
to work:

s:states
s:State name=state1/
s:State name=state2/
s:State name=state3 basedOn=state2 /
/s:states

s:HGroup top=30
s:Button label=state 1 click=currentState='state1' /
s:Button label=state 2 click=currentState='state2'/
s:Button label=state 3 based on state 2
click=currentState='state3'/
/s:HGroup

s:BorderContainer width=300 height=300 verticalCenter=0
horizontalCenter=0

s:Button id=myButton
  label.state1=Width is 100
  label.state2=Width is 200
  label.state3=Based on state 2 and color is red
  width.state1=100
  width.state2=200
  color.state3=red
  /
/s:BorderContainer

The third state inherits all the properties of the second state and adds
it's own.

Does this help solve anything we've discussed so far?

From what I can tell it does but still has some problems. For example, what
if you have a state that takes styles from more than one defined state, ie
showing both the default and focused states at the same time like in your
Button example. This would be the up-default-focused state. The upDefault
and upFocused are both based on the up state. The basedOn poroperty only
lets you inherit from one.

One way to make it work is to base the combined state on the original up,
over down states and redefine the default and focused styles again (if the
state overrides a style). Or if it doesn't override a style then you would
need to add include those components in the includeIn tag like so,

s:states
s:State name=up/
s:State name=over/
s:State name=down/

s:State name=upDefault basedOn=up/
s:State name=overDefault basedOn=over/
s:State name=downDefault basedOn=down/

s:State name=upFocused basedOn=up/
s:State name=overFocused basedOn=over/
s:State name=downFocused basedOn=down/

s:State name=upDefaultFocused basedOn=up/
s:State name=overDefaultFocused basedOn=over/
s:State name=downDefaultFocused basedOn=down/
/s:states

s:HGroup top=30
s:Button label=up click=currentState='up' /
s:Button label=over click=currentState='down'/
s:Button label=down click=currentState='over'/

s:Button label=up default click=currentState='upDefault' /
s:Button label=over default click=currentState='overDefault'/
s:Button label=down default click=currentState='downDefault'/

s:Button label=up focused click=currentState='upFocused' /
s:Button label=over focused click=currentState='overFocused'/
s:Button label=down focused click=currentState='downFocused'/

s:Button label=up focused
click=currentState='upDefaultFocused' /
s:Button label=over focused
click=currentState='overDefaultFocused'/
s:Button label=down focused
click=currentState='downDefaultFocused'/
/s:HGroup

s:BorderContainer width=400 height=300 verticalCenter=0
horizontalCenter=0

s:layout
s:HorizontalLayout /
/s:layout

s:Button id=myButton
  label.up=Up
  label.down=Down
  label.over=Over
  /

!-- DEFAULT --
s:Label
includeIn=upDefault,overDefault,downDefault,upDefaultFocused,overDefaultFocused,downDefaultFocused
 color=red
 fontWeight=bold
 text.up=Default (up)
 text.over=Default (over)
 text.down=Default (down)
 text.upDefaultFocused=Default and Focused (up)
 text.overDefaultFocused=Default and Focused (over)
 text.downDefaultFocused=Default and Focused (down)
 /

!-- FOCUSED --
s:Label
includeIn=upFocused,overFocused,downFocused,upDefaultFocused,downDefaultFocused,overDefaultFocused
 color=blue
 fontWeight=bold
 text.up=Focused (up)
 text.over=Focused (over)
 text.down=Focused (down)
 text.upDefaultFocused=Default and Focused (up)
 text.overDefaultFocused=Default and Focused (over)
 text.downDefaultFocused=Default and Focused (down)
 /

/s:BorderContainer

The text.upDefaultFocused, text.overDefaultFocused, etc inline attributes
are optional in this case.

If you combined the above example with state groups you would get the
following:

!--s:states
s:State name=up/
s:State name=over/
s:State name=down/

s:State name=upDefault basedOn=up stateGroups=default/
s:State name=overDefault

Flex app using images

2013-06-05 Thread Deepak MS
Hi there,

Just wanted to check if we can built an app in flex by using sliced
images(all the screens of the app) from a UI design done in Photoshop(or
any UI editing tool), without any performance issues?

I have been working on iPad apps by just skinning the components. But
sometimes there are some UI designs which are difficult to achieve by
skinning.

Hence wanted to know if we can extensively use images to build an app in
flex. Something like these:

http://dribbble.com/shots/172145-Mobile-admin-dashboard-iPad-UI-UX-iOS

http://dribbble.com/shots/722800-Experiment-with-Metro-UI/attachments/68300

Kindly let me know what can be the best approach.

Cheers,

Deepak

Re: checkin tests filing on Linux

2013-06-05 Thread Justin Mclean
Hi,

 Interesting. I expected them to match because I thought we'd wired up the
 AC sort behavior to use the flash.globalization classes. If you step
 through this on the Mac it goes into localeCompare?

On OSX it's calling spark.collections.Sort:internalSort which is using
mx.xollections.SortField:stringCompare which uses ObjectUtils.stringCompare
which uses localeCompare to compare strings. So for AC it's not using the flash
globalisation classes. Not that changing that will fix the test (it may improve
performance) as it look to be an issue with Array.sort() on Linux.

Thanks,
Justin
