Re: [l10n-dev] The world of OOo

2007-09-24 Thread Alexandro Colorado
Remind me of what Daniel Carrera did with having people presenting on IRC.
I would also recomend OOo people to have slidecasts. I haven't done any in
english but it was really good to have a SlideCast for the No-OOXML
campaing.

Hi,

Sophie and I discussed yesterday about an idea that we'd like to share
with you.
Sophie and I were invited at the Mozilla 24 conference:
http://www.mozilla24.com/en-US/
The event took place right before the OOoCON and was a major success.

The idea is to have a distributed conference (IRC, video, audio) around
the L10N/NLC topics for OOo.

What do you think?

best,
Charles.

Good idea but also: why not to reuse existing #ooonlc channel for actual
talks? Yes it were good to have sometimes eg. once in quarter of year
distributed conferences and more often organized IRC meetings (was the
last one really in May??), but surely there are things that can be
discussed currently. And there are always people around who want eg.
some quick advice...

#ooonlc is an useful tool. I'd like to have more "life" and more
"interaction" with the world of OOo.
But you are right, we should be doing more irc sessions during the year.
How about we schedule one, say, in two weeks?

Best,
Charles.

Re: [l10n-dev] How to add macros to default install in a particular language

Hi Tim,

There are a set of macros[1] that are useful specifically and only to
people writing in Esperanto, and if possible we'd like to include them
in the default installation of OOo in Esperanto which is now close to
ready.

Is this easily done? Is it possible at all? Can we get them into the
"official" version that'll be available for download from the main
site? If not, is it possible to roll our own version that includes the
macros?

I think that the questions you asked need to be answered both from the
engineering and the legal perspective. I am cc:ing here Ivo and Martin
who may help answering this

Thanks,
Rafaella

Re: [l10n-dev] NLC meeting action items

2007-09-24 Thread Rafaella Braconi

Hi Charles,

thank you for summarizing the action items of our very productive
meeting! Please see my comments below:

Charles-H. Schulz wrote:

Hello all,

we had a great and productive NLC meeting in Barcelona, and I'd like to
thank all those who were present both physically and on IRC, as well as
the Sun engineers who have been working with us during this meeting.

thank you very much to all the ones who have attended in a way or
another :-)

So,
here's a list of action items/comments to that I have written down.
Rafaella, please free to add more to it if you wish:

-Pootle should not be used as a translation tool but as a project
management tool.

The integrated translation online editor can be used of course but it is
more to be considered an additional feature to the translation workflow
management tool which is Pootle. To remind is also that the xliff file
format will come soon.

Nobody should be forced to use Pootle.

-A pilot/feedback process of migration out of sdf to other formats (TMX
or XLIFF) should be initiated and obviously involves a better
communication within the community (NB: XLIFF not an OASIS standard yet).

Charles to provide the link or similar to the standard xliff technical
specification.

- Clarifying (wiki) the roles of a NLP project. (Charles)

- Documentation on wiki getting bigger (admin and devlopers guide to be
put there and open sourced)

- Wiki upgrade scheduled, namespaces search and namespaces mandatory in
order to make the wiki searchable and effective.

- JZA to provide a how to for customizing NLP websites.

Kind regards,
Rafaella

Thanks,

Charles.
