[l10n-dev] Problem with Pootle ?

Hi all,

Only a little information. For OOo 3.2 I did translations and I want to
upload it in pootle but I can't : there is a connexion to the pootle's
site but I wait, nothing comes. I tried to translate directly on Pootle,
is the same thing, I am waiting the Pottle's server. Somebody has the
same problem or I am only one ?

Bruno

[l10n-dev] How to handle abreviated menu items

2009-10-14 Thread Belayneh Melka

Hi all,

The menu items on openoffice.org - for example for OpenOffice.org
Writer - Bold, Italic and Underline appear as B, I, and U respectively. But we
didnt encounter these letters in our translations. How will these menu items be
displayed in our localized version of OpenOffice.org? Our translation for these
items will be as follows

 Bold -> Yabbuu
 Italic -> Mirgada
 Underline -> Jalamuri

   Thanks in advance,
Dawit

Do you mean text on the icons? There are special files you need to
localize, that are not part of sdf file (i.e. pootle strings).

Maybe someone here can point you directly to those files in the code tree.

2009-10-14 Thread Sveinn í Felli
The button icons are theme-dependent. Some themes, e.g.
Crystal, use the B-I-U series on those buttons, whereas some
themes like Industrial use always the letter A (modified to
show the formatting).

Re: [l10n-dev] 3.2 (m60) done!

2009-10-14 Thread Ivo Hinkelmann

Hi Martin,

there was indeed a communication problem. Also most people here inside
SUN including me was not aware about this migration module and about the
impact on the translation.

I asked the developer to communicate about this tool in a blog entry or
in mailing list thus everything is clearer what this tools does. So to
give a short explanation this migration tool there is used to analyse
microsoft office documents if they might cause problems with our
openoffice import filters. To use the tool you need a microsoft office
installation. There is a zip ( MigrationAnalysis.zip ) in the windows
local bin output tree that contains some vb executable which calls
microsoft office and ask for a directory where it can find the documents
it should analyse. The result is written into a Excel sheet.

Cheers,
Ivo

By the time this question was answered I already completed the
Slovenian translation (if you remember, last third of September is
pretty close to the - previously announced - translation delivery date
and translators do not wait to the last moment to start translating).
And it is strange it takes 3 months to answer this question.

When a large part of text like that is included in the translation
files, someone should notify us it is not intended for translation at
the time it is added and not three months later - what else do the
translation strings do in the sdf file if not waiting for translation?
Will we have to ask for any new po file or even every new string in
the Pootle if it is intended for translation or if it is there just by
mistake? But I am not angry so do not take this personally, please, I
am just pointing to another thing that went wrong in the process of
3.2 localization process/management.

Anyway, Slovenian translation is available if anyone is interested,
just let me know :)

Can someone point me to the executable or the extension of this thing,
I would really like to see how it works with real world files. I mean,
I spent quite some time translating it, now I would at least like to
see this thing in action.

2009/10/13 André Schnabel :

The statement that thismodule needs not to be translated was given on
2009-09-24 (not really quick answer, but there *was* an answer). Later
Rafaella even stated, that the module is not inclded in normal OOo builds
and is rather considered as some knd of extension.

So I don't know, what is the "pity" we need to speak about?

[l10n-dev] Newbie: Basic question on l10n

2009-10-14 Thread Abhinav Chaturvedi
Hi all,

I have a rather basic question.
Let's suppose I have downloaded OO and am using it in English. I then
decide that I would like to see
all the application menus, help etc in another language. Can I make
the switch through OO itself? If yes, how?

Or is it that if I want to work in another language, I have to
download the localized version of the *whole* OO?
Which would mean that if I am bilingual, I would have 2 whole copies
of OO residing on my one system?

Thanks for your help.
Abhinav.

this was the case in the past when you wanted to have more than one
language for the UI.

Today we have so-called langpacks (language packs). These install sets
are much smaller than a usual OOo installation. It provides only the
necessary resource files for the specific language.

If these are installed (you can install as much as you want) you can
switch the language via "Tools - Options - Language Settings - User
Interface".

You can find these files on the download pages from your L10n community
or on the mirrors.

Best regards

Marcus

You can install additional language packs and switch from one to another
under Tools > Options > Language settings.
