Re: [l10n-dev] How to translate the Install Preperation dialog?

2009-10-22 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
AFAIK, it is not localizable. Yet.

Lp, m.

2009/10/22 Kristján Bjarni Guðmundsson kristjanbja...@gmail.com:
I need help with translating the Install Preperation dialog. The first
dialog that appears when installing in windows.

I am building DEV300_m60 on Windows using Cygwin and I have added the
language Icelandic (is) to the source.
I have put the localise.sdf file in the l10n/is directory. The
postset.mkincludes is. I can build the installation
fully and everything is translated except for the initial Install
Preperation dialog even though I have translated
the strings in the sdf.  What do I have to do to get my translation into
 that dialog?

Hi all,

*** the deadline for providing GSI / SDF files for the OOo 3.2 release
is October 30th, 2009

*** Please update your translation to a OOO320 m1 sdf file as there
were broken strings in the DEV300 m60. Pootle users don't need to worry
about this !

*** Please always provide a FULL sdf file covering ALL strings, not a diff

*** Run gsicheck on your sdf file
http://ooo.services.openoffice.org/gsicheck/ and fix all errors

As the integration cause a lot of work do not provide sdf files that
cover less then 80 % ( UI only ) translation done. Also please add the
en-US translation to your sdf file.

Important: To prevent confusion and big mess please ensure that your
issue has the following properties set:

Assign to i...@openoffice.org , Target milestone to 3.2 , Component
l10n , Subcomponent code , Issue type ENHANCEMENT

And as usual please:

* File an issuezilla bug to i...@openoffice.org . Please don't attach
your file directly to that issue, better provide an URL / link pointing
to your file. Only attach if you don't have any webspace available.

* please make sure that the GSI / SDF file format is not violated
(format errors like wrong amount of tabs, shifted columns, ... ) by
using gsicheck. Please use the latest version at:
http://ooo.services.openoffice.org/gsicheck/ usage: gsicheck -c
myfile.sdf. In case of errors please use the log file to fix them.

* We try to correctly update our database status information which would
later help us to improve the overall quality of the translation. Please
provide a GSI / SDF file containing both, your language and the
corresponding en-US source string. Please note that the en-US string
have to be the same milestone like your translation.

Cheers,
Ivo

Re: [l10n-dev] Major L10n achievements

2009-10-22 Thread André Schnabel

involved and a short description of what you have achieved.

There have no big bang achievemnts for the Germanophone team within
the last year - at least if you just look at the results.

Internally we have done a lot to stabilize our translation process -
with success. We used to do our translations based on the XLIFF standard
file format for several years. Unfortunately this became a problem, when
we were froced to use pootle as repository / portal - and only po-files
were available. This caused several changes in our process (e.g. we
had about 10 connversion steps between .po and xliff - and back). Due
to this we were not able to provide 100% Help translation for OOo 3.0
(thanks to Sun, the rest was done by an external vendor).

A year ago, we switched our pootle repository from .po to .xliff -
reducing conversions down to ~5. During the last 12 months we improved
(or asked other people to improve) involved tools, so that we can now
directly work with XLIFF files in pootle and our offline editors without
any conversion steps (thanks to the pootle admins at Sun and the team at
translate.za). So now we have a quite smooth and stable translation
process (and we are on par with the po-based process .. if not better ;)
). Visible result is, that we have no problem to deliver 100%
localizations anymore.

The second achievement might also be labeled with stabilized
translation process. Although the size of our translation team did not
change (we work with 3 to 4 voulnteer translators and 2 reviewers /
coordinators), the composition of the team changed (some people left,
some came in, others changed role). I'm happy to say, that these changs
in the team did not have negative impact on the process (imo one of the
key points in open source project - to keep a process stable, even if
the team changes).

Speaking about stabilization for the last year - next year will be the
year of visible improvements ;)

[l10n-dev] Re: [project leads] Re: [discuss] Call for Nominations for Community Council Election

2009-10-22 Thread Juergen Schmidt

Hi,

first of all thank you Cor for your trust in me that i would be an
eligible candidate.

I needed some days to think about the nomination to be sure that i am
motivated, have the time and that i have the open and global view on the
project that is necessary. And what is more important from my point of
view that i have a realistic view because the work in all the different
areas have to be done. Talking only is not enough. And the heart is
still the product itself. A good product that we can promote, where we
can do marketing for, that we can localize to reach even more people,
that we can customize to reach other user groups like OOo4Kids, and that
we can always improve to make it the best office suite of choice.

I know the project very well because i know it before it was born ;-)
And the reason why i still work full time on the project is the project
self. Ok Sun as a good employer is a further very important point here
as well.

My the potential CC work would i do in my spare time because it
wouldn't be part of my normal work. You see there is no real difference
to any other candidate ;-)

I am not looking for a further position or so, i am already the project
lead of the API and Extensions project (but project lead positions are

not really important from my point of view). But i am always motivated
to improve things where i have the impression that things can be
improved. And that is the reason why i accept the nomination.

It's up to others now to vote for me or not. I am at least willing to do
my best.

Thank you

Juergen

**Call for Nominations**

I would like to nominate Juergen Schmidt as candidate for the Community
Council.
Juergen is well known as lead of the API project (and co-lead before)
and in that position promoting the importance of more intuitive and
better APIs among the developers. He worked on the UNO, SDK and DevGuide.
He also is co-lead of the extensions project from the beginning. This
project is an important bridge to many, often non-corporate, developers
and contributors for the project.
Juergen also makes valuable contributions to the marketing project, for
example with organising the OpenOffice.org contribution for the FOSDEM
and promotional goods... T-shirts :-)
He is active at various levels in the project and whenever time allows,
with an open mind to reach out. I consider this very useful for a
position in the council, therefore I hope Juergen that will accept this
nomination.

Looking at his background, the Code Contributor as well as the Product
Development seat could be his place in the Community Council for the
next years.

Best regards,
Cor

I'd like to mention a little big bang related to the German team.

André's efforts on the Open Language Tool XLIFF editor now allows the
translation community at large (beyond OpenOffice.org or any FLOSS
localization team) to have a free software based XLIFF editor.

Before that, translators had to work with closed source XLIFF editors
or used relatively non trivial conversion paths (Okapi/Rainbow+OmegaT).

Now, if their client wants them to work on XLIFF files, they can do so
quite easily in one step: open it in OLT and work.

That is a very good example of how FLOSS communities can provide
professionals with amazing tools and I'd hope that will allow
professional translators to participate more to FLOSS localization
projects. I think that is an important challenge for FLOSS l10n
communities.

Thank you André for your recent work on OLT, and thank you to Tim
Foster and all the others at Sun who first brought us this tool
originally (STE, for the old timers here).

[l10n-dev] gsicheck showed error free

2009-10-22 Thread Belayneh Melka
Hi all,

We have finalized our translation and fixed most of the error using
translate toolkit. We also already converted our po files to sdf and cecked it
with gsicheck. After fixing the errors gsicheck finally showed no error. Does
this garuantee that we can upload our translation sdf file so that it will not
crash the build?

  Thanks in advance,

I have no idea about this feature. Does it have a website?
