I saw them on the report and saw a few that were 7.x related. I'll see if I can figure out what is going on with them. I have looked into a bunch of the HDFS related tests on master/8.x. [https://builds.apache.org/job/Lucene-Solr-Maven-master/2484/] The job failed due to forbiddenapi pattern not being updated in pom.xml.template. Fixing with commit shortly. Maven build usage instructions are at {{dev-tools/maven/README. maven}}. FYI
currently the Maven Jenkins jobs don't run tests under Maven because nobody
maintains that capability - the Maven test runner (surefire) is different from
RandomizedRunner, the Ant one (see LUCENE-4045); the Jenkins jobs just build
the Maven artifacts and populate the Apache Maven snapshot repo.

BTW, the commonPool and the ForkJoin pools are made for cpu-intensive calculation, so in general they won't need any special permissions. What Hadoop is doing here is very untypical, because it misuses the fork-join-pool for I/O stuff which generally just waits for I/O devices to finish, so it's not a cpu-intensive job. This especially applies for the common pool (everybody in Java says: Whenever you do something with common-pool like stream.parallel() never ever do I/O inside. The change in Java 9 now unfortunately changes this to all fork join pools. I think we should file a bug to change hadoop to use their own thread factory or use another pool. bq. Definitely didn't work. From the ForkJoinPool javadocs The sentence in the docs was only meant for the "commonPool", so when you change that to 0 it does not create any threads at all, so stream().parallel() is not doing anything. Hadoop is using its own ForkJoin pool that breaks. I am fine with the same approach for tests that we did for the Jetty server (it's a test only class here): Fork it and fix it until Hadoop fixed their bug. I am currently validating this. ## We would end up with 2 classes copied to make the Hadoop integration tests work. # Don't upgrade to Hadoop 3 until Hadoop is more SecurityManager friendly. Hadoop uses ForkJoinPool which by default creates threads that have no permissions. There is no easy way to work around the ForkJoinPool currently. The only thing that might be an issue here: Maybe Hadoop does some separate
permission stuff which interferes with Lucene. In code you can always further
restrict permissions (we have a test using that feature) in some
AccessController-closure.

The precommit failures from above for Hadoop are real but they are an issue
with commons-lang3. I just sent a message to the commons-lang3 mailing list. I
