Also, the dates mentioned on the following sections are different:

http://lucene.apache.org/solr/news.html (24th Aug)
http://lucene.apache.org/solr/ (25th Aug)
http://lucene.apache.org/core/corenews.html (24th Aug)

Considering you announced it on the 25th, you should perhaps just fix it to
that?

RE: [VOTE] 5.3.0 RC2

2015-08-24 Thread Uwe Schindler
Hi Noble,

there is still a text duplication problem on
http://lucene.staging.apache.org/core/corenews.html. The first 2 sentences
repeat. Also the Changes.html link is not highlighted, it should be a Link
with title "Changes" and behind that the link. Also both links are there 2
times (the changes link and also a slightly different download link).

On the Solr News page, not all links are duplicates, but CHANGES.txt is above
and below the lists.

Thanks for doing the release!
Uwe

Re: [VOTE] 5.3.0 RC2

2015-08-24 Thread Anshum Gupta
Hi Noble,

I still see issues here:
http://lucene.staging.apache.org/solr/resources.html#documentation

The release documentation section is empty.

I've also fixed "The Apache Solr Reference Guide" section to remove the
solr version# from the download text label. It was set to the latest
version but as the ref guide is yet to be released, wasn't really correct.
It would have been an issue with every release unless we released the ref
guide along with the code every time so I removed the number until we have
a better process for maintaining it.

and yes, thanks for taking up the 5.3 release. :-)

Re: [VOTE] 5.3.0 RC2

2015-08-24 Thread Steve Rowe
Hi Noble,

On all three news pages, you have the announcement date at 25 August (tomorrow
in the US, Europe and India). If you’re going to announce shortly (within the
next 3.5 hours, when the date will advance for you in India), those should be
24 August. (Along the same lines, the dates on the announcment texts on the
wikis don’t have the correct date either.)

A couple issues I found in core/corenews.html (I saw you did some commits to
fix formatting issues; if they aren’t showing up on the staging site, you might
need to commit a whitespace-only change to a file under the top-level lib/ dir.
to force a full site rebuild):

* "Lucene 5.3.0 release highlights:” shows up twice, not sure if there’s more
duplication there.
* In the 5.3.0 news item, there are a bunch of bullets that don’t start on
their own line.

Looks like you did some reformatting of the Lucene news on the top level news
page, but not on the Lucene-specific page core/corenews.html?

Otherwise, looks good!

Thanks Noble for handling the release.

The artifacts can be downloaded from:
 https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/lucene/lucene-solr-5.3.0-RC2-rev1696229

You can run the smoke tester directly with this command:

 python3 -u dev-tools/scripts/smokeTestRelease.py

Re: [VOTE] 5.3.0 RC2

2015-08-20 Thread Steve Rowe
Noble, FYI, I had already gone to bed when you sent this email, but at that
point, it had been significantly less than 72 hours from the time you sent out
the original RC2 VOTE email.

There are three conditions required for a release VOTE to succeed:

1. At least 72 hours must have passed since the VOTE email was sent.
2. At least 3 PMC members must +1 the release.
3. A majority of PMC votes must be +1’s

FYI, in Lucene/Solr land, we regularly respin if there are any -1’s (from any
voter, including non-PMC), so #3 is rarely used.

RMs should read through both the ASF release policy page
 as well as Lucene/Solr’s ReleaseTodo
. If the above is not clear in
those, we should fix them.

Hi,

I just noticed that there is - next to Adrien's hot sister from the changelog -
an unused "bin/" directory in the root folder that was accidentally committed
my Mark Miller. I deleted it now in SVN, but this should also not hold the
release. It is also only in Solr's src.tgz file.

RE: [VOTE] 5.3.0 RC2

2015-08-18 Thread Uwe Schindler
Smoked with Java 7 AND Java 8:

Java 1.7 JAVA_HOME=/home/thetaphi/jdk1.7.0_80
Java 1.8 JAVA_HOME=/home/thetaphi/jdk1.8.0_51

SUCCESS! [3:00:31.633551]
(most of the time it was downloading Maven Artifacts...)

I also checked the artifacts on Windows 7, unzipped to Desktop with whitespace
in my file user name. Lucene looks fine, no comments. Solr starts up correctly,
techproducts example also works and post.jar committed the documents from
whitespace directory to new index with whitespace directory.

+1 to release!

I found a typo in the changelog that looks like my sister is a popular
singer but I don't think it's worth a respin. :-)

Also Elasticsearch looks happy with this RC.
