If it is based on the OpenOffice.org 2.0 source code then it is under the
LGPL. It is interesting to see if they have the right license for the
suite.

Count me a skeptic. The article is thin on detail.

If I were to guess, I'd say they are following their old vaporware
strategy: announce early to hobble the mindshare growth of a

least 18 months before this is released! And, who is ECMA anyway?

I'm not sure who ECMA is, but this webpage might help:

Since 1961 and continuing in full force today, *Ecma

MS has submitted the format to ISO, too.

Microsoft is looking to establish its Office XML Reference Schema (the new

And from a blog of a developer of the Office XML format, hosted on MSDN.com

http://blogs.msdn.com/brian_jones/archive/2005/11/21/495466.aspx

Quote:

Today we are making a really important announcement about our XML formats.
We are going to bring the Microsoft Office Open XML formats to a standards
body with the intention of eventually making the formats an ISO standard.

Another article about the standardization move:

http://stuff.techwhack.com/archives/2005/11/22/221106-microsoft-to-apply-for-standardization-of-office-formats/

Quote:

After their document formats are recognized as an ECMA standard, the company
plans to pursue standardization at ISO, the International Organization for
Standardization.

HTH!

What do you all think about the move, if it's real, that is?

Moving to standard as an open standard will place a level of trust on the
technology that will give people the confidence to get behind it, said Alan

forward to the day when people look at this as a milestone, as the beginning

Sadly, I'm skeptical, but if they do actually follow through, then I say
good for them and I'll have to give them some props for doing the right
thing.

my company in a licencese provider of openoffice and the founds
recollected by the support will be send to OpenOffice.org as a

We are open to any oportunity to contribute the development of

[Marketing] I would like to help

2005-11-24 Thread Lamar DeSpain
I am involved in marketing and have been for many many years in several
languages.

I just installed the software today and so far I like it.

I also hate microsoft and anything that is great and does not enhance Mr. Gates
pocket is wonderful also.

I am in contact with thousands of computer users world wide and potentially can
get hundreds of them to use the software.

I dont know a lot about the project or the software yet and dont have a lot of
time to learn.

However if you will e-mail me what you would like put out to the world and give
me a link to a down load site I will put the
information out in the following languages

Aafrikaans, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese

I will also provide some space on a .ws website where downloads can occur if
you wish.

And if you had an option that would replace outlook I should like to have it!

Thank you
