Hello Daniel, I don't want to dwell into this (except that you seem to say that the OOoAuthors docs are released under the PDL, the GPL, and the Creative Commons?), I was merely pointing out the official documentation place for OpenOffice.org, and that Catharina should pay attention to any licensing terms, including, in the first place, the PDL. Thank you, Charles. I doubt that Catharina would really care about using a more restrictive license like the PDL instead of the more flexible options at OOoAuthors, but for other OOo members I'd like to mention that these docs *are* available under the PDL, as Charles knows. In particular, here is the license page for the English guides: http://oooauthors.org/en/authors/userguide2/LICENSE "This is free documentation. You can distribute it under the terms of the GPL, version 2 or later, or the Creative Commons Attribution license. In addition, you may use it under the PDL as 'original documentation'." Re: [Marketing] free content open office educational material
Hello Catharina, thank you for your interest in OpenOffice.org. The official repository and documentation project is here: http://documentation.openoffice.org The OOoAuthors is an independent project that is external to OOo, but as you will see there are some links to this site from the documentation project. In general, try to read the licensing terms carefully as the OpenOffice.org documentation has a specific license, the PDL, and there is a breadth of other docs (such as the ones Daniel mentioned) all over the Net that may not have the same licensing scheme. Hope this helps, Charles-H. Schulz. Re: [Marketing] information about OpenOffice
Re: [Marketing] free content open office educational material
Hello Catharina, I highly recommend the OOoAuthors user guide for OpenOffice.org: http://oooauthors.org You'll see some excellent material there. Most of the content is in English or German, but there are other active languages. While the user guide was not primarily intended as a study course, it is perfectly suitable for a course. It is clearly written and well organized. The OOoAuthor team has produced work of particularly high quality, because of their extensive review process. The over-all project is guided by two professional tech writers. Every chapter is reviewed by several people of varying skill levels. Once people feel that the chapter is of good quality, it gets reviewed again by a professional editor, at which point it either gets published, or gets sent back with comments and suggestions. Cheers, Daniel. Re: [Marketing] information about OpenOffice
Hi Sara, This can be a very difficult task, to find or accurately estimate the market share of OpenOffice.org. There are some resources that I think can get you started, but as far as I know, there is no definitive answer online. The ones that I use are hosted by the OOo project on its wiki: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Market_Share_Analysis and http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Major_OpenOffice.org_Deployments Also, I host copies of some of this info on my own website: http://www.solidoffice.com/openoffice/nyc/ I'm sure other readers of this list will have some more great links for you!
