[Marketing] OOo Promo for my podcast
Hi, About a year ago I produced a promo spot for OpenOffice.org for my podcast, The Force Field. At the time something happened in the Marketing group that sort of soured me to the idea of promoting it on my own so I pulled it before it was finished. I did, however, keep the OOo banner link on my web site. Now I am willing to give it another try, but I will not produce anything like what I did before. I will just do a short read during the news and comment segment of the show. If anyone here is interested, you can send me three or four lines of copy to read and I will include it in the next episode. It can be a collaborative effort but it needs to be positive. HOWEVER, this needs to be a clean, cut and dry promo. I would need it within the next week or so. If it needs committee approval fine, but no bureaucratic nonsense, please. Sorry for that statement, but I've been on this list a long time so I know how it works sometimes. All I need is a little promo. This is a free promo on my podcast with a personal endorsement for OOo. The podcast is aimed at IT Service Providers, field service technicians and resellers, most of whom resell, recommend and/or install hardware and software to end users. To get an idea of what I am referring to you can listen to an episode of the podcast here http://www.theforcefield.net/wordpress and the web site is here http://www.theforcefield.net. As a community distributor I welcome the opportunity to promote OOo on the podcast and my site with the support of the community. So, I guess I'm confused. What is the final copy? I don't have a problem reading the earlier one written in the first person because I actually do use OpenOffice.org in lieu of MS Office but I do agree that it sounds better if it is compared to other office suites in general instead of a specific suite. Post the final copy and as long as it is factual and legal and in a positive tone I will read it on the podcast. I wonder if we manage to set up this promo text without referring to Microsoft at all. "When's the last time you gave a thought to the office software you use? Have a look at OpenOffice.org, the free office suite. It's great software and it's easy to use. The open-source licence means you can install it on as many PCs as you like without any licence worries. It's a wonderful value-add for any PC resellers, support folks, or repair shops. Give it a try today - just go to download.openoffice.org." IMHO, OpenOffice.org is not in need of always presenting itself as the un-Microsoft. And we should not always compare OOo to MSO. In this manner we grade up Microsoft as a benchmark. Stefan :-) - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: [Marketing] OOo Promo for my podcast
Hi John, I think that can work. My only real concern is the line about immunity to Microsoft viruses. I assume it refers to Word macro viruses and the like. If so, it may not be a general assumption for listeners and they may take it to mean any and all viruses and/or malware. Perhaps we can cut this particular line to avoid misinterpretation? I also suggest a slight modification to the statement about it being more polished than MS Office, which is true in some aspects but somewhat depends on which application we are referring to in the suite and its particular use. Perhaps if we add "I think in some ways it's just a more polished product." That will endorse it and keep it within expectations of the user. Other than that I don't have any trouble endorsing the statements in the script. Thanks! Would you be comfortable with us putting these words into your mouth: "When's the last time you gave a thought to the office software you use? If you assume that word processor means Word, spreadsheets means Excel, and presentations means Powerpoint, then think again. I've dumped Microsoft Office for OpenOffice.org, the free software alternative. It reads and writes all my old Microsoft files, it works much the same, but it's just a more polished product. What's more, its open-source licence means you can install it on as many PCs as you like without any licence worries. It's also immune to Microsoft viruses. It's a wonderful value-add for any PC resellers, support folks, or repair shops. Give it a try today - just go to download.openoffice.org."
