Hi Cor,

please let also Martin Hollmichel know when it's finished. I'll be on
CeBIT next week and Martin will stand-in for me (regarding the release).

Kind regards, Joost

O.k., I took a very first stab at the release notes for
OpenOffice.org 2.4 by moving content from the Feature Freeze Testing
2.4 wiki page to the following page:

   http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/New_Features_2.4

I've finished editing, AFAIAC. Also added some features that missed the
Feature freeze testing info ;-)

Great was has been done while I was at a location in 'Hamburg' (*).

Now I've done some editing - which is really fun: rewriting tech-talk
for users :-)

Not yet finished, but a question already: The part
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/New_Features_2.4#New_Features_in_OpenOffice.org_2.4
is still blanc.
For the 2.3 release it looked like:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/New_Features_2.3#New_Features_in_OpenOffice.org_2.3

This info is more marketing-talk. Can we move it to another page, or
leave it there, so that users interested in features details have to
scroll further down?

Yes, fine.
After this one:

I've been able to do some of the work, but not as much as I wanted.
I've tried to contact Sophie yesterday, but no response yet. Maybe she's
doing what I will do later this day: vacation ;-)

I've been catch by the localization round ;) I've begin to work on the
.odt document Cor has done and on Writer features. I'll send the
document this evening to Cor, I don't know now if I should fill the wiki
or the document so I go on with the first process. The screen shots are
embedded in the Writer document, if you need them in a separated file,
just tell me.

From my point of view the next steps are:

1.) Optimizing / cleaning up the wording in the Full List

2.) Writing up summaries for the New Features in OpenOffice.org 2.4
section

3.) Adding more blogs and screen shots

4.) Adding the Known Issues

Feel free to contribute to whatever section you like!!!

I've done some work. But to be honest, I'm far behind my schedule
because of some technical 'challenges' with my work.
So if we will make if before mid February, with RC1, as Marting would

Wonderful, Sophie!

Thanks. I tried to answer you yesterday but your mail bounced.

Now I've done some work, to prepare co-operation.
Especially with in mind 3.0 this year and above all two feature-releases
a year, it is good to have a structure to make it easy for more users to
help.

I've created some pages in the Wiki:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/New_releases_Info and
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/New_Features-How_to_add_Info

Remarks and improvements welcome!

This is good, thank you for the work. About the .odt document, do you
think it's possible to format the pages in landscape style or will it
break the export ?

Also, I've noticed some activity on the new community forum:
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=49t=414#p3263

I think we can post a request there, somewhere next week, for people who
want to lend a helping hand :-)

So: pls look to the wiki pages, and see if it is OK, and where it can be
done better.

Of course, stating right away also is allowed ;-)

I'm working on the wiki table right now and will begin to fill the
Writer pages into the document.

Kind regards
Sophie

No. It doesn't matter. As long as all use a table with the same amount
of columns and the same content in the same column, it merges easily.

[marketing] OOo 2.4 release notes

2008-01-23 Thread Martin Hollmichel

Hi,

some time ago we agreed that we need better Release notes
(http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/BrowseList?list=releasesby=threadfrom=1919869).

For the 2.3 release there is now a draft in
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/New_Features_2.3 which is
based on the data of
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Feature_Freeze_Testing_2.3

For 2.3 release I would like to see
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/New_Features_2.3#New_Features_in_OpenOffice.org_2.3
and
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/New_Features_2.3#Known_issues
as the new release notes for 2.3. As an appendix to that we could use
the http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/New_Features_2.3#Full_list
and the old release notes as a technical changelog document.

For OOo 2.4 there is
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Feature_Freeze_Testing_2.4
available but not yet something like
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/New_Features_2.4. I would
like to have new Release Notes available with the first release
candidate mid of February, will this be possible, is this doable ?

-A-

A is fun to read, and has good promotional value, but hardly helps
anyone using new features. B is important to know and C is what many
users want. So IMHO it is definitely more than a change-log.

As mentioned before, it is on my list. And I know I have to put it in my
agenda as well.
It's uncertain if I can find enough time for the whole job. But I will
be able to make a start this week and see that I get some others involved.
Then we have another three weeks left, so my guess is that it must be
doable, expecting that I find some others to help.

Even more: if one/some others is/are handy in making screenshots and
placing them in the Wiki, the 2.3 version could even be improved. And
thus it could mover from 'draft' to 'final' (didn't notice before that
is was draft :-) ).

What do you think, does that sound reassuring enough?

Kindest regards,
Cor
