Mike,
I added you text, although with some minor changes.

Apparently the problem is that some of the javascript generated by
1.1.3 isn't compatible with the JSF RI. So in 1.1.4, those javascript
methods have been renamed. No application-level code needs to change
(provided you're not using the internal javascript methods on your
pages), but you cannot mix Tomahawk 1.1.3 with MyFaces Core 1.1.4
because they use incompatible javascript. Nor can you mix MyFaces
Core 1.1.3 with Tomahawk 1.1.4. That's unfortunate because up to
this point we were advertising that you could mix and match them -- we
overlooked the javascript interdependencies.

This probably answers my question in the other thread. I think the
release announcement needs to give a reason for the incompatibility.

Also, to help users figure out what can be expected to work together:

  http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/CompatibilityMatrix

(It could be expanded to show which component libraries work together, as well.)

Great idea. I don't know how maintainable it is, but I've updated it.

The only problem I see with this is that it's far too verbose.

The section which basically says we're incompatible is now larger than
the rest of the announcement, and the information imparted isn't
really of much significant value. Most people don't care why. They
only care if.

Agreed. I'm having trouble boiling it down to a single sentence, though.

Due to changes related to compatibility with the reference
implementation, MyFaces Core 1.1.4 cannot be used with Tomahawk
1.1.3.

Just trying to head off the Why not? You said... questions.
