Given what you say in this above paragraph, do you have any suggestions on
how to "accurately" determine regression status? We may have to construct a
custom search using date, etc.

Am 03/06/2014 09:55 AM, schrieb Jürgen Schmidt:

Hi all,

this is a call for vote on releasing the available release candidate
(RC) as Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0 Beta. The Beta release is intended to
reach more early adopters and to receive more valuable feedback to
improve potentially critical areas for the final release.

Apache OpenOffice 4.1 is a minor update with many bugfixes and at least
2 major improvements. It's the first version where we have the
iAccessibility2 support integrated and available. A very huge step
forward to reach and better support disabled users especially on
Windows. The second improvement is the switch to 64 bit on MacOS. A long
and overdue "must do" shift forward to support newer APIs (replace
deprecated APIs) and platforms on MacOS.
And we can provide again more complete UI translations and have now
support for 37 languages. New languages for this release compared to
4.0.1 are Bulgarian, Danish, Hindi, Norwegian Bokmal and Thai.

Apache OpenOffice 4.1 will be a further key milestone to continue the
success of OpenOffice.

An overview of release issues can be found under:

http://people.apache.org/~jsc/developer-snapshots/snapshot/AOO4.1.0_Beta_fixes.html

The release candidate artifacts (1) (source release, as well as binary
releases for 37 languages) and further information how to verify and
review Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0 Beta can be found on the following wiki page:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Development+Snapshot+Builds

The RC is based on the release branch AOO410, revision 1573601! And a
fresh and clean RAT scan output of this revision can be found under

http://people.apache.org/~jsc/developer-snapshots/snapshot/AOO4.1.0_RAT_Scan.html

Please vote on releasing this package as Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0 Beta

The vote starts now and will be open until:

Sunday evening, 9 March: 2014-03-09 11:00pm UTC.

But we invite all people to vote (non binding) on this RC. We would like
to provide a release that is supported by the majority of our project
members.

[ ] +1 Release this package as Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0 Beta
[ ] 0 Don't care
[ ] -1 Do not release this package because...

(1) the upload for the Linux 32 bit artifacts is still ongoing, but 64
bit is already available.

I confirm it happens. I've raised this issue to our AdOps and asked to
remove the misleading ads, it will take few hours.
In future if you experience a similar problem feel free to send an email
directly to blockt...@sourceforge.net, since we have a process in place to
allow anyone to ask to remove misleading ads. See

Thanks for heads up, sorry for the inconvenience.

Or maybe a disclaimer in the voting thread email?

Andrew's comments show clearly that these editors do not care to be
careful or factual, or even read those disclaimers, unfortunately.

We can be successful only if we manage to block their downloads. They
link to our binaries hosted on SourceForge (which is fine). Just
thinking loud, but if it was possible (on the Sourceforge side) to deny
all download requests that do not come from the openoffice.org or the
sourceforge.net domains, then the project would effectively be in
control. The embargo could be lifted just after the release.

I'm a bit confused by this statement. There are MANY sites the re-route to
SourceForge for our downloads, and this is perfectly fine. The concern is
for the inadvertent download of not yet released Beta which is available
from the following URL space which is not even SourceForge:

  http://ci.apache.org/projects/openoffice/milestones

OK, for the Beta release in special this is true. It's not yet available
on Sourceforge - at least I cannot see it.

In general, they link to our binaries at Sourceforge.

Correct? So, I think the restriction would need to be from ci.apache.org,
not SourceForge.

For the Beta release this is true.

However, I don't know how long this makes sense.

Marcus

For me this sounds like a great idea.

Maybe we should start with denying all download requests that some from
these bad websites.

@Roberto:
Can you tell us if this possible? If yes, is it much effort for you?

Sure, sites could still copy all binaries being voted upon and offer

them locally, but this would require a more significant effort. on their
side.

And more HDD space and more own bandwith - which is also not what they
want.

Marcus

No. The link Rob posted at the beginning of this discussion
http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Office/Office-Suites/Apache-OpenOffice-253.shtml
will redirect you for download to something under

I'm not entirely sure which button you mean. Probably it's like
this: If you click on "OpenOffice..." at the top of the page you are

2014-03-09 Thread Max Merbald

Hello Kathelijne,

you did the right steps and you used the correct pages to download
OpenOffice. You downloaded a version for Mac, as I can tell from what
you write below. The only reason I could think up why you couldn't open
the downloaded file is you are probably not using Mac but Windows (you
haven't written which operating sytem you're using) and need to download
the version for Windows.

You should not, however, have received Genio when downloading
Openoffice. That can happen when you use other download sources than
ours. Genio is a sort of adware which at least borders on malware. You
should remove it from your computer.

Good look with OpenOffice!

We can be successful only if we manage to block their downloads. They link

The normal process is that you ask in advance, stating:
- who is going to use them
- where will these people use them (list of events, conferences)
- what materials you are producing (you already sent this in the ZIP file)
- an estimate of costs

This phase occurs on this list, i.e., you ask and get approval here.

For materials invoiced in 2014 we may still be able to go through the
process now, if you send the dev list the relevant information.

Once the dev list is OK with the refunds, you will then move off-list
and be in contact with the Apache treasurer to have the invoices
reimbursed. Another recommendation is that people attending an event
send a short report to this list (mail, blog post, pictures...).

ApacheCon, so I suggest that we go directly for the "100 millions" logo
for ApacheCon in any case.

Is the official template for slides already available? Speakers in the
OpenOffice track could use a slightly modified template with the "100
millions" OpenOffice logo in that case.

Of course we still need someone who can design the "100 millions" logo
variant of the official OpenOffice 4 logo!

Regards,
  Andrea.
