Re: [dev] OpenOffice.org Developer Article Contest Rules - First Draft

2006-01-14 Thread Ian Laurenson
My apologies for not making comments sooner.

Some time ago I was asked if I would be willing to be one of the judges
for this competition and said "yes" without really thinking about the
ramifications of the competition.

A prize can be an incentive to encourage people but if not carefully
thought through can also be a disincentive.

My concerns are as follows:

 * Old articles not being included could disappoint people that have
worked long and hard on the project.

 * By requiring it to be a separate article is actively discouraging
people from using the more collaborative approach of the wiki.

 * Possibly the focus on documentation is too narrow.

My preference would be to have a site where people could be nominated
and voted on by registered OOo people for services rendered to the OOo
community.

As areas are identified by the community council as needing more input
the prize for that month could be targeted to being for a particular
type of service to the community.

Thanks, Ian

The code for StarBasic is [oobas] (I have changed it to allow
starbasic as an alternative).

The colors are now closer to the default colors used in the IDE but I
can't work out the logic of some of the colors in the IDE. For example,
why is "for" blue but "msgbox" green?

Thanks again for the feedback - Ian

For example should we have a namespace for Extensions?

Re: [dev] RE: wiki

Great news that the wiki is running!
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Main_Page

Is it be possible to have the CodeSyntaxHighlight MediaWiki Extension?
http://mercury.it.swin.edu.au/swinbrain/index.php/CodeSyntaxHighlight_MediaWiki_Extension

The line in the code starting "$cshLanguages = array" should include
'oobas' (possibly other languages should be included/excluded but this
is the one that I most want). People may also have views about the
remapping towards the end of the code.

Which requires the GeSHi - Generic Syntax Highlighter:
http://qbnz.com/highlighter/

It is, apparently, possible to have links automatically generated to
documentation but I haven't yet looked into this in detail. This would
require some modification to the GeSHi code.

Compared to the full featured editing environment that Writer provides a
Wiki editor is crude. Please don't get me wrong, I like wikis and am
strongly in favour of them, that is why I started the wiki on writing
OOo extensions: ext.openoffice.org.nz. It is just that I see the Open
Document Format as being an opportunity to dramatically improve the
usability of interactive web content.

I haven't investigated writing plugins for MediaWiki. I think it would
would be easy to modify my DokuWiki macro to produce the somewhat crude
text file format for MediaWiki:
http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/hillview/OOo/

Agreed, all OOo users/developers will have a browser, and all computer
users don't have OpenOffice. But, all OOo developers will have OOo and
this makes it an ideal place to experiment with using the Open Document
format as a standard for interactive web content for things like wikis.

If I understand the ooo-blogger code correctly it uses OOo's ability to
create html files and posts the html to the blog site. Thus the blog can
be read by any browser.

What I'm proposing is having the files stored in Open Document Format
and using Writer as the browser/editor of the information. While I don't
have all the details thought through - I think it an idea worth
investigating/discussing.

I am working on converting the extensions wiki in Dokuwiki format to
twiki format. This is comparatively easy as I can read the Dokuwiki text
files into Writer, run a macro that writes out twiki text files. In my
quick look of Mediawiki I can't see how to import files into Mediawiki -
am I missing something?

Similarly if we want to create printed documentation from Mediawiki how
can we easily get a wiki space into Writer?

My preference would be to have a 'wiki' based on the Open Document
Format. That way we could use Writer directly to edit the files.

I am working on another project for the next 12 hours so will respond
with more detail after that.

I see that a number of interfaces have been defined (status unpublished)
and at least one service implemented (?) for floating / docked windows
as per the 1.9.77 SDK:
http://ext.openoffice.org.nz/doku.php?id=ref:com:sun:star:awt:xdockablewindow
http://ext.openoffice.org.nz/doku.php?id=ref:drafts:com:sun:star:ui:modulewindowstateconfiguration

Would it be worthwhile to try and write my own component for a floating
/ docked window? If so, I may need some help.
Is there any projection of when an "official" component will be written?

My reason behind wanting this, comparatively urgently, is that I could
drastically improve my existing macros such as IannzFindReplace,
OutlineCrossRef, and RevealCodes, as well as implement new macros such
as an integrated grammar checker.

Is the non-modal dialog "dockable" like the Navigator?

I have a number of a open sourced macros that could be greatly improved

[dev] How to find the Calc code that assesses the number input and assigns number format?

2005-02-01 Thread Ian Laurenson
As part of the OOoAuthors team I am trying to document the new number
recognition behaviour in Calc for the 2.0 code line.

It would be really useful if I could look at the relevant source code
for identifying the input to a cell to be of a certain type and for then
assigning a number format. I am having difficulty navigating my way
through the code to find the portion that I need (I'm sorry that I am so
thick).

I have a very slow internet connection (33k) and haven't yet downloaded
the source code for 1.9.74 (I do have 1.1.0 but this is too old). I am
aware of http://ooo.ximian.com/lxr/ so should be able to see the
relevant code there if I knew where to look.

Please could someone point me in the right direction for finding the
code which shows the logic for assessing the type of input in Calc and
then for assigning the number format.

My apologies is this is the wrong mailing list for this question.

Thanks, Ian Laurenson
