Re: incubator-superset commit process

2018-12-20 Thread Maxime Beauchemin
Hi Lahiru,

Here's the best resource as to how we're planning on working around
releases in the future:
https://github.com/apache/incubator-superset/issues/6131

Keep in mind that:
* we have yet to come up with our first ASF-approved release
* in the meantime, we're refraining from pushing out official releases on
Pypi, and top release candidates from branches are probably your best bet,
example currently 0.29.0rc7 on pypi is as close as what some of the
organizations might be using in production today
* The community is likely to sort a lot of this out early 2019

Now is a good time to chime in in the SIP linked to above.

Helping Vyl and Sylvia with committer rights

2018-12-20 Thread Alan Gates
At our meeting last week Vyl and Sylvia both mentioned that they had
submitted their ICLAs but hadn't received their committer karma yet. So
(with a little extra poking from Vyl :) ) I went looking today but I can't
find the email trail for the votes, which I need in order to give them
karma. I'm not sure if I'm failing in my search skills (entirely possible)
or if there wasn't a vote.

>From the original proposal for Superset I see the following initial
committers:
Maxime Beauchemin
Alanna Scott
Bogdan Kyryliuk
Vera Liu
Jeff Feng
Ashutosh Chauhan
Nishant Bangarwa
Slim Bouguerra
Priyank Shah
Harsha Chintalapani
Daniel Dai
Luke Han

On https://lists.apache.org/list.html?priv...@superset.apache.org I can
find votes for:
Beto Dealmaida
Ricardo Massa
Grace Guo
Chris Williams
John Bodley

I also find votes that opened for Krist Wongsuphasawat and Michelle Thomas
though I don't find any resolutions for either of those.

So, if there was a vote and I missed it, please send me the link and I'll
get these two their karma. If there wasn't, since everyone seemed to
already think they were committers I suggest you start a vote soon and then
we can go from there.

Alan.

Re: Helping Vyl and Sylvia with committer rights

2018-12-20 Thread Jeff Feng
Hey Alan,

I did some searching and I was able to forward you the VOTE threads for
Michelle, Sylvia, Vyl and Krist. We might need to re-initiate the vote for
Vyl since that thread had 2 +1s and 0 -1s.

I also cross-checked the list of original committers and committers voted
in that you found together with the Superset Roster (
https://whimsy.apache.org/roster/ppmc/superset) and there are a few
additional committers listed on the project there that weren't included in
your email. This includes:

   - Timi Fasubaa
   - Kevin Williams
   - Hugh Miles
   - Fabian Menges

Let us know about recommended next steps for Sylvia and Vyl, thanks!

2018-12-20 Thread Alan Gates
Ok, I've added my vote for Vyl so we'll have the required 3 +1s. I can
take it from here and get both Vyl and Sylvia added.

Is there anyone else that's been voted in but not given karma?

Alan.

Apache Superset - Design Operating System (please review, discuss and vote)

2018-12-20 Thread Eli Brumbaugh
Hello world,

Airbnb and Lyft (design) recently had a conference call to discuss *Superset
design*.

In hindsight we should have announced this meeting to the Apache community
in advance. For that, I apologize. In the future we will ensure that it is
both *announced in advance* and *accessible* via *freely** available*
conference software such as Google Hangouts.

Below I will outline the topics we covered and the proposal we would like
to run past the community for *discussion and a vote*.

*Topics:*

   - Superset design system alignment and strategy.
   - Superset design operating model.
   - Next steps and action items.

*Superset Design Operating System (proposal to vote on)*

The goal of this operating system proposal is to standardize on *community
accessible* (design related) discussion, proposals, process and reviews.

   1. Ad hoc (*only minor*) design discussion will happen in the Apache
Superset #design *community accessible* slack channel.
   2. Design changes to Apache Superset should be proposed through the
*community
accessible* dev@superset.incubator.apache.org email alias for a vote.
   3. Apache Superset will be designed in Sketch
(unlike Photoshop, there is no comparable
free tool). Sketch files *community accessible* (for free) through Sketch
   Cloud . Please note many
companies use different design tools. For example we at Airbnb use Figma.
However, Sketch and Figma are backwards compatible.
   4. When design changes are submitted to the Apache Superset repo they
should be tagged with the *community accessible* 'design' tag.

*Two requests:*

   - If anyone is designing Superset in any a tool other than Sketch or
Figma please let the community know so we can work to ensure compatibility
   and access.
   - If there are any other designers engaging with Superset (past, present
or future) please add them to the thread know so we can ensure they have a
   voice.

*Attention:*

   - Superset design will reconvene at the end of January. Date, time and
links will be shared with the Apache community in advance.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Best,
Eli
