Re: Podling Report Reminder - August 2016

2016-08-07 Thread Werner Keil
John,

Thanks for taking the lead. I may give wiki access a try, but a bit busy
and also not feeling so well this WE, so did not start it.
Although there seems to be some things to resolve, e.g. how it could be
split between Geronimo/ASF and the community or movement behind
Microservice.io, I suggest a minor change to the respective sentence given
the proposed package name of some artifacts.

Regards,

Werner

Re: Podling Report Reminder - August 2016

2016-08-06 Thread John D. Ament
Because of the issues that have popped up since the last report, I wanted
to make sure there was a report so I wrote it. Please review and let me
know your thoughts.

Tamaya

Tamaya is a highly flexible configuration solution based on an modular,
extensible and injectable key/value based design, which should provide a
minimal but extendible modern and functional API leveraging SE, ME and EE
environments.

Tamaya has been incubating since 2014-11-14.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

  1. Allow community to build consensus in APIs.
  2. Get new contributors.
  3. Understand and work through end user use-cases.

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be
aware of?

  - The community recently had a bit of a falling out between this project
and some changes proposed to go into the Geronimo project. While the
initial issues have been resolved, and appear to not be creating a split
in the community, it should be monitored.

How has the community developed since the last report?

  - See issues section.

How has the project developed since the last report?

  - Releases are still in progress, and work is being done to refactor
the Tamaya APIs based on some input from Mark Struberg and others.

Date of last release:

 2016-04-06 (0.2-incubating)

When were the last committers or PMC members elected?

Philipp Ottlinger has been elected on 2016-04-22 as new committer.

It requires a separate account, I don't see you listed. If you create an
account I can add you.

Is the incubator wiki the same as the usual Apache wiki or does it require
special access?
I tried the normal wiki e.g. for DeviceMap before and it's generally very
slow.
I can give it a try later if I my Wiki user works for it.

Podling Report Reminder - August 2016

2016-08-03 Thread johndament
Dear podling,

This email was sent by an automated system on behalf of the Apache
Incubator PMC. It is an initial reminder to give you plenty of time to
prepare your quarterly board report.

The board meeting is scheduled for Wed, 17 August 2016, 10:30 am PDT.
The report for your podling will form a part of the Incubator PMC
report. The Incubator PMC requires your report to be submitted 2 weeks
before the board meeting, to allow sufficient time for review and
submission (Wed, August 03).

Please submit your report with sufficient time to allow the Incubator
PMC, and subsequently board members to review and digest. Again, the
very latest you should submit your report is 2 weeks prior to the board
meeting.

Thanks,

The Apache Incubator PMC

Submitting your Report

--

Your report should contain the following:

*   Your project name
* A brief description of your project, which assumes no knowledge of
the project or necessarily of its field

I would certainly mention the JavaOne session (it sounded compared to
feedback others who proposed talks got it was at a very early stage, so
there must be interest in the subject;-)

Maybe those who suggested a leaner, more modular API (Mark, Gerhard,...)
could best say a word or two on these thoughts?

That's the ultimate question of community. If someone else can do it in
his absence, then its not an issue. If we're waiting on Anatole, then
there's a bit of a community issue.

I'll happily grant anyone access to the incubator wiki who needs it, or
post a report based on what someone else writes if needed.

AFAIK Anatole is on vacation.
Is he still able to submit it, or should others also contribute something?

Re: Podling Report Reminder - August 2016

2016-07-27 Thread Werner Keil
I'd probably say "possible future JSR".

Nothing is certain till we see results of what might be announced or
discussed at JavaOne and afterwards.
E.g. IBM seems to already push ahead with Websphere Liberty based on
microprofile.io. At the moment it isn't more than a subset of JSRs, so not
a real "standard fork" yet, but if e.g. such efforts go further there's no
reason why Tamaya shouldn't also play a role there to help the
configuration of Microservice architectures.
