 I do not see any issues with the release, except the one
 of the tgz sources archive.

Release notes, as displayed by Windows installer, are unreadable.
https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=47267

The option to display the file is on by default, so it affects a lot
of people. Though may be most of them do not care.

Based on this, and on our issues with src.tar.gz archive, I change my vote to

  The build was created on an Unix machine, so the files in the zip

 Strictly speaking, it's not sufficient, because the binary archives
 are supposed to be derivable from the source archives.

It is source archive (-src.tar.gz) I am talking about. All binaries
are derivable from it.

I do not see a contradiction here.

It contains the same files as -src.zip. I used Apache Ant 1.7.0 to repack these
sources (using the package-src-tgz target from dist.xml, but with fxcrlf filter
removed).

 See
 http://www.apache.org/dev/release.html#what

 at the end of the section it says:

 In all such cases, the binary/bytecode package must have the same
 version number as the source release and may only add binary/bytecode
 files that are the result of compiling that version of the source code
 release.

 This is not the case for the tgz archive.

  I prepared such

There are also the following options:

1. Rerun the build, but now with
LANG=en_US.ISO8859-1; export LANG;
before it.

It will fix the UTF-8 issue with -src.tar.gz

2. Release as is. As Mark noted, 6.0.18 suffers from the same issue.

I am OK with it.

Observations
-src.tar.gz - hashes match, key in WOT (more sigs would be nice though)

Minor issues
1. The fixcrlf task is adding newlines to the end of files that don't
end in a bank line making comparing -src.tar.gz against an svn export
harder. I've patched trunk and proposed the fix for 6.0.x

2. i18n resources are still corrupted. There is a patch already in the
STATUS file to fix this. Was an issue in 6.0.18 so this is a bug that
has not been fixed rather than a regression.

3. A couple of other files are also corrupted. Again, there is a patch
already in the STATUS file to fix this. I'm happy living with these
minor niggles for 6.0.20

4. Servlet TCK passes under normal operation and with a SecurityManager
a handful fail (as expected) due to restricted network access.

5. JSP TCK passes under normal operation and fails under the security
manager. This is a known bug, again - patches are in the STATUS file.

So in summary, a few minor niggles but nothing we haven't had in
previous releases. Hence my stable vote.

 The candidates binaries are available here:
 http://people.apache.org/~remm/tomcat-6/v6.0.20/

 According to the release process, the 6.0.20 tag is:
 [ ] Broken
 [ ] Alpha
 [ ] Beta
 [ ] Stable

 Rémy

The tgz archive of the sources is broken.

Some of the files there have undergone conversion to UTF-8,
while the relevant ones in the zip archive remain in ISO-8859-1.

Here is an example of those lines that differ:

* \src\_tgz\java\javax\servlet\LocalStrings_fr.properties

err.not_iso8859_1={0} n''est pas un caractя┐`re ISO 8859-1
value.true=true
* \src\_zip\java\javax\servlet\LocalStrings_fr.properties

err.not_iso8859_1={0} n''est pas un caractшre ISO 8859-1
value.true=true
*

Disregard the Cyrillic encoding issues - you may see that the count of
characters differ.

Here is the list of files that are broken:

The binary distributions seem to be OK.

At least:
1) tgz and zip archives match each other
2) by quick look into tomcat-i18n-fr.jar the properties files are OK there
3) the properties files in /webapps/examples/WEB-INF/classes are also OK

Some other small discrepancies that can be fixed later:
1. the apache-tomcat-6.0.20-fulldocs.tar.gz file contains two exact copies of
/tomcat-6.0-doc/RUNNING.txt

2. the exe installer and zip distributive have the following
difference in server.xml :

* C:\PROGRAM FILES\APACHE SOFTWARE FOUNDATION\TOMCAT 6.0\CONF\server.xml
!-- You should set jvmRoute to support load-balancing via AJP ie :
Engine name=Standalone defaultHost=localhost jvmRoute=jvm1
--
* C:\(...)\_ZIP\CONF\SERVER.XML
!-- You should set jvmRoute to support load-balancing via AJP ie :
Engine name=Catalina defaultHost=localhost jvmRoute=jvm1
--
*

I have not run the binaries yet.

Best regards,
Konstantin Kolinko
