ok, here's my "vote"...

Having now been much influenced by my wife's thoughts :), this would
now be my favorite if it were in the colors of #2, with the word
"Tools" in thin font (again like #2).

if i must pick from these exact options (no changes), then this is my favorite.

a blend between #1 and #2 would be nice, if you're up for it. :)

This is still my favorite, except the T should be redesign (so as to
look as a T!) as proposed in
http://people.apache.org/~cbrisson/ApacheVelocityTools.png

The T is far too heavy, and why drop the idea that it was manually
drawn?

For 3a and 3b, the curved T doesn't render well, plus an overall feeling
of smthing which isn't straight, almost broken...

A few days ago, I joined the GHOP (Google Highly Open Participation Contest)

After a couple of revisions, here it goes:

1) First draft, I didn't like it very much:

If you don't like any of the logos, please speak up so I can hopefully
design another one that you think looks good. :)

If no one breaks the tie for you, you should do it yourself since this
is your contribution to the project. :) Of course, technically it
does still fall to the PMC (project management committee) to decide
whether to use your contribution, but i wouldn't worry about that.
Just make this something you're proud of.

but a) you are in a contest and we can't wait forever to finish this
task and b) by contributing to the community, you *are* part of it!
:) i suppose, if you want, you could just create a JIRA issue and
attach the top two logos to that, then i'd be happy to call your task
completed, leaving us (the rest of velocity community) all the time we
want to decide which of the two logos to use.

Re: VelocityTools Logo Voting.

Will do! Great work! FYI, the Texen logo task is now open again. I
may only be sporadically available in the next couple days (travelling
for the holidays), but if you claim it, then i'll try to give it to
you as soon as i can.

Thanks again!

Re: VelocityTools Logo Voting.

2007-12-18 Thread Edward
Hi,

For the rest of the community that don't know; I was selected to do
VelocityTexen's logo.

Since we're about 50/50 on the logo choosing proposition, we could (and this
is my opinion only) use one logo for VelocityTexen and one logo for
VelocityTools. Before you reply, however, I want to say something in
advance: please don't think of me as being lazy after creating the logo for
VelocityTools. I just feel that it would be beneficial because one of the
logos I created for VelocityTools (the most recently updated one) I feel
that it would work better for VelocityTexen. (Both have the initials of VT.)

However, if the people here at Velocity think that I should develop a new
logo, by all means, I will try.

Regards,

Edward

Just to clarify: "selected" means that the task was put out there, you
claimed it and i said "cool". :)

Also, Texen's logo only needs to say "Texen". Though, *if* it looks
nice and/or *if* you want to or think it would look good, it could
also include the word "Velocity", but as a separate word and ideally
less prominent. I believe i already mentioned this in the comments of
the task, but thought i should remind you since you seem to be calling
it "VelocityTexen". :) Please be sure to review the task details and
comments:

Efficiency (the encouraged form of laziness) is great (an excellent
quality for anyone working in software!), but my preference in this
situation would be to have something different. None of the other
Velocity subprojects have look-alike logos, and i think that works
well. For reference, here's what we have for our projects so far:

Anakia: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ANAKIA-5
Docbook Framework: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DBF-8
Engine: http://velocity.apache.org/engine/devel/images/velocity-logo.png
VelocityTools: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/VELTOOLS-92

Since Texen is not any closer related to VelocityTools than any of the
others, i think it might cause confusion if their logos are much more
similar to each other than to the rest.

it is ultimately your call what you want to contribute though. :)

2008-01-08 Thread Claude Brisson
Hi Edward. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't notice a vector version of
the VelocityTools logo. Unless you made it directly in a bitmap format,
would it be possible for you to also submit it in a vector format?

Thanks,

  Claude
