Developers interested in working on the Sugar interface or writing
activities can have a development platform without needing an XO
laptop.

Hi Martin,

Is there any prospect to have this enabled? I know you said "no
promise", so I just wondering, because out of 12 extensions I am using,
the F57 is supported just by 3 of them. Actually I could live without
these 3, but hard to live without the remaining 9.

For people who don't follow the internals of how Firefox works,
this means all extensions you have installed will stop working.

Apparently there is preference "extensions.legacy.enabled" which
should enable them again, but this does not work in Firefox 57 in
Fedora.  Can we please enable that?

The pref itself does nothing, it has to be patched. I'll try to enable
that for our test package.

[HEADS-UP] poppler soname bump

2017-11-06 Thread David Tardon
Hi all,

I will build a new release of poppler this week, which includes soname
bump. I will take care of rebuilding the affected packages:

boomaga
calligra
cups-filters
gambas3
gdcm
inkscape
kf5-kfilemetadata
libreoffice
okular
pdf2djvu
poppler
poppler-sharp
texlive
texworks

Note that packages that only use one of the wrappers (poppler-cpp,
poppler-glib, poppler-qt{4,5}) are not affected.

F28 System Wide Change: Ruby 2.5

2017-11-06 Thread Jan Kurik
= System Wide Change:Ruby 2.5 =
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Ruby_2.5

Change owner(s):
* Vít Ondruch

Ruby 2.5 is the latest stable version of Ruby. Many new features and
improvements are included for the increasingly diverse and expanding
demands for Ruby. With this major update from Ruby 2.4 in Fedora 26 to
Ruby 2.5 in Fedora 28, Fedora becomes the superior Ruby development
platform.

== Detailed Description ==
Ruby 2.5 is upstream's new major release of Ruby. Many new features
and improvements are included.

=== New Features ===
* Top-level constant look-up is removed.
* rescue/else/ensure are allowed inside do/end blocks.
* refinements take place in string interpolations.
* yield_self

=== Other notable changes since 2.4 ===
* Merge Onigmo to 6.1.1. It adds absent operator Note that Ruby 2.4.1
also includes this change.
* Merge bundler to standard libraries.
* Merge rubygems-2.6.13.
* Merge rdoc-6.0.0.beta2. Change lexer IRB based one to Ripper. It
much improves the speed of generating document.
/ Update supported Unicode version to 10.0.0.

== Scope ==
* Proposal owners:
- Finish packaging of Ruby 2.5. Current changes available in
private-ruby-2.5 branch of ruby package in dist-git.
- Rebuilding of Ruby packages providing native extensions (i.e.
packages which depends on libruby).

* Other developers:
- Rebuild of packages with binary extensions (i.e. packages which
depends on libruby) will be handled automatically, but some packages
might need fixes/updates to support Ruby 2.5 properly.

* Release engineering:
- https://pagure.io/releng/issue/7142
- Separate Koji tag for package rebuild will be needed.

FYI: OCaml 4.06 in Fedora 28 will change default mutability of strings

2017-11-06 Thread Richard W.M. Jones
Since forever ...

  # string_of_bool true;;
  - : string = "true"
  # String.blit "urgh" 0 (string_of_bool true) 0 4;;
  - : unit = ()
  # string_of_bool true;;
  - : string = "urgh"

Since OCaml 4.02 (in 2014) it has been possible to opt in to
‘-safe-string’ to make strings immutable. You have to use the Bytes
type when you want mutable byte arrays.

In OCaml 4.06, coming to Fedora Rawhide soon, this option will be the
default and any code which mutates strings will not compile:

  # String.blit "urgh" 0 (string_of_bool true) 0 4;;
  Characters 21-42:
String.blit "urgh" 0 (string_of_bool true) 0 4;;
 ^
  Error: This expression has type string but an expression was expected of type
   bytes

I think most upstream packages should be fixed by now, but if you need
help to fix a particular package then file a bug and CC me on it. As
a last resort you can enable mutable strings again using
‘-unsafe-string’, but please try not to do that.

Rich.

CDDL 1.0 and 1.1

2017-11-06 Thread Tom Callaway
Hi Fedorans,

Fernando Nasser noticed that there were now two versions of the CDDL.
Accordingly, we have created new shortname identifiers:

* CDDL-1.0
* CDDL-1.1

We have also retired the old, unversioned, "CDDL" shortname identifier.

If you maintain a package which includes CDDL code, please check to see
which version of the license applies, and update the License tag
accordingly.

You do not need to make an update to your package in Stable branches of
Fedora solely to reflect this change, it is sufficient to make this
change in Rawhide, and inherit it into all future builds.

You can see more information about the CDDL licenses as well as copies
of the license texts here:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Licensing/CDDL

Thanks,

~tom

Both branches exist, but when I try to build phd2 on master branch I get

The scm request only reports about f27 branch to be created, not master:

While ultimately it would be nice to have everything use one of the

some work for the next bump.

These are cases of overlinking, as they only use symbols from
libpoppler-qt5. This can be seen in Ubuntu (which links with
-Wl,--as-needed and -Wl,--no-undefined) and Cygwin (which as a PE
platform acts similarly automatically), neither of which require libpoppler.

extra-cmake-modules should be fixed so that Poppler::Qt5 does not pull
in Poppler::Core:

Are you sure this is necessary? Only libpoppler-glib is mentioned in
the .dll.config, and libpoppler doesn't have a C API for the assembly to
load.

> texworks

This too appears to be a case of overlinking, and again neither Ubuntu
or Cygwin show a libpoppler dependency, and Debian's build log shows a
warning that it is unused. POPPLER_BASE_LIBRARIES is used in
modules/QtPDF/CMake/Modules/FindPoppler.cmake (no relation to ECM's) to
determine if poppler was built with fontconfig support, but if you
remove it from POPPLER_LIBRARIES there it should avoid this.

Found a nice way to automate Kerberos kinit

2017-11-06 Thread Jonny Heggheim
Hi, I started playing with the pass[1] unix password manager and finally
found workflow that makes my Kerberos workflow scriptable :)

Here is an example:

$ klist
klist: Credentials cache keyring 'persistent:1000:1000' not found

$ pass show fedoraproject.org | head -n1 | kinit jo...@fedoraproject.org
Password for jo...@fedoraproject.org:

$ klist
Ticket cache: KEYRING:persistent:1000:1000
Default principal: jo...@fedoraproject.org

Valid starting   Expires  Service principal
11/02/2017 18:25:32  11/03/2017 18:25:25

Neat. I wish I had known about pass. I wrote my own in bash using mcrypt,
git, and grep.

But, I've never needed to use it for Kerberos. GOA works fine for me in
Fedora.

One alternative to using pass might be to use python-keyring to use your
passphrase in your system credential store (gnome-keyring-daemon, or
KWallet, or whatever):

$ keyring set login fedoraproject.org # one time to store
$ keyring get login fedoraproject.org | kinit jo...@fedoraproject.org
