Re: AW: [development-axapta] SP 2 and SP 3

2004-08-16 Thread bob . brinker

Hi All,

I am still learning Axapta and am having a problem deciphering some Axapta
3.0 exception messages.  (Example: "@SYP229"). Is there one best place to
look for information like this?

Could anyone suggest what resources are available when further
interpretation of  error message(s) is needed. For example, I am trying to
get a Packing Slip from a Sale Order in Accounts Receivable as follows:

Menu ==>  A/R  ==>  Sales Order  ==>    Posting  ==>  Packing Slip  ==> OK

The report must be produced in thsi way because Axapta must pass something
to it before report can be produced.

Posting seems to start but is interrupted within about 15 seconds with the
following messages displaying  in the Info Log and no Packinng Slip is
produced:

Posting
No lines for posting or quantity = 0
Posting has been canceled.
@SYP229

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

  Bob

2004-05-19 Thread Gahr, Andreas

I did not try it with sp3 and sp2, but with sp2 and sp1 and it worked well. Here is what you can try:

Backup both, the client and application (and AOS if you have one) directory of SP2 (to a path named axsp2) and do an upgrade of your existing sp2 afterwards. Then you have the sp2 in your backup directory and the sp3 in your previous sp2 directory.

Of course.

You should install them into separate folders, for ex. Ax30sp2 and
Ax30sp3 and create different configurations for them.

Also it is a good idea to use different databases for sp2 and sp3.

2004-05-19 Thread Wolfgang Gross

Also hi,

to do so you should copy the entire axapta client folder and the axapta
server folder BEFORE you update to SP3.

t.e.

(1) axapta was installed on

D:\MBS Axapta\Application

D:\MBS Axapta\Server

D:\MBS Axapta\Client

(2) copy the mentioned folders like

D:\MBS Axapta\Application

D:\MBS Axapta\Server

D:\MBS Axapta\Client

D:\MBS Axapta\Server (SP2)

D:\MBS Axapta\Client (SP2)

So you have access to the SP2 client and server files which you have to use
in the AxaptaConfigurationUtility (when starting an application against the
SP2 kernel) and in the AOS Server Startup properties (when running an AOS
instance with SP2).

2004-05-19 Thread Zdenek Zavadil

Hi

You can have in registers only one Service Pack, e.g. SP3. Then you can
start Axapta 3.0 SP3 simply from Start/Programs/Axapta. Then you can copy
the application with Service Pack 2 from the backup or from another machine
- both application and client, e.g. to d:\Axapta30_SP2/Client and
d:\Axapta30_SP2/Application. Then create shortcut from
d:\Axapta30_SP2/Client/bin/ax32.exe and start Axapta SP2 from this shortcut.

Best regards
Zdenek

Re: [development-axapta] SP 2 and SP 3

2004-05-19 Thread Richard van der Craats

Hi Harry,

It is possible, and fairly easy to do.

Once you have installed SP2, go to the axapta client\bin directory. Here
you'll find an ax32.exe file. Simply copy and paste the filename, and
rename the copied one to something like ax32SP2.exe.

Now if you install SP3, the ax32.exe will be overwritten, but you can
still start a SP2 client with the renamed file.

Just make sure you don't start a SP3 application with an SP2 client (and
vice versa) though.

Regards,
Richard

YNT: [development-axapta] SP 2 and SP 3

2004-05-19 Thread Anil Ozay

1 - Firstly, you must make multiple copies of  "Standart" folder. If you installed Axapta with default options you cand find it in "C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Application Data\Navision\Axapta Application". Make a new copy of Standart in same folder. For ex. "Copy of Standart" or "Axapta_SP2".

2 - On SQL Server, backup your AXDB database and restore it with different name.

3 - Start your Axapta SP3 installation. On the installation,it asks you "which folders do you want to upgrade to SP3". Don't click anything.

When installation complete Standart is upgraded to SP3, "Axapta_SP2" is continued to SP2. Configue your client to SP2 and SP3 with different databases.

2004-05-19 Thread Horlacher, Carsten \(SSB\)

Yes you may run different base and service pack versions on the same
machine. This works for the application and the client (put them in a
different directory). For the AOS you have to configure which executable
the instance should use. The only thing you should take care about are
the ActiveX controls. They are not always the same for each version but
if you need these functionality you may write a small script that
unregister and reregister the files depending on the version you need
them for.

RE: [development-axapta] SP 2 and SP 3

2004-05-19 Thread Ben Campbell-Barry

Hi Harry,

There are a few methods...

- Use a product like VMWare (Now Microsoft Virtual PC) to run separate
environments

or

- Install Axapta application and client and update to SP2.
- Create new database for the SP3 instance.
- Copy the folder containing the SP2 application folder (not just the appl
folder) and rename.
- Copy the folder containing the SP2 client and rename.
- Run SP3 and ensure that the COPIES of the SP2 application and client are
updated (not the actual SP2 installation).
- Create a new ODBC datasource for the SP3 install.
- Create a new configuration (.xpo) for SP3.
- Connect to SP3 and run through the Upgrade checklist.
- Import data from the SP2 installation into the SP3 installation.

I have used both methods to run multiple versions of Axapta 3.0 on a single
machine and prefer the second method as it takes less disk space and you do
not get the performance hit that is associated with using Virtual machines.

Cheers,

BCB.
