[e-smith-devinfo] Samba 2.2.1a Windows XP
Just in case anyone is wondering, the docs for Win 2000 Samba 2.2.1a (once you get them to work), work with Windows XP as well. To get around the WinXP security during logon /login you need to disable certificate strong logons ***usual warning about registry editing here*** I know the lines are wrapped, but if you're gonna be stuffing around with this kinda stuff, you should know what registry entries should look like :-) == BEGIN SMEXP.reg === Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SeCEdit\Reg Values\MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/Netlogon/Parameters/Requi reSignOrSeal] ValueType=dword:0004 DisplayType=dword: DisplayName=Domain member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel data (always) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Netlogon\Parameters] requirestrongkey=dword: requiresignorseal=dword: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\Netlogon\Parameters] requirestrongkey=dword: requiresignorseal=dword: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters] requirestrongkey=dword: requiresignorseal=dword: ==end== Tadaaa! All the usual instructions work OK, and you can very easily use the User manager to allow WORKGROUP/root and WORKGROUP/adminsnamehere to have local Administrator access to the machine. I haven't had XP long enough (it's the Ridgey Didge Pro Build 2600 OEM) to see if it confuses the Domain and/or Workgrop Master lists. I also have a 4.1.2 5.0 setup both playing nicely with each other, and the 2000Pro and WinXPPro client machines. I also haven't seen Samba 2.2.2, so I don't know whether that changes the logon security. [e-smith-devinfo] mod_gzip causes problems with SME 5
Hi, I recently installed mod_gzip without any problems but I discovered some weird problems with awstats not showing graphics. I also installed phpBB succesfully but tried to login as admin for 4 days without succes! I just uninstalled mod_gzip and now awstats shows me graphics and phpBB works perfect!! I'm using SME 5. I think this is a serious bug...so don't use this rpm with SME 5. I don't know whether that is just the indexes, or there are mirros for the files as well. You'll also find that there are many mirrors of RedHat's rawhide distro. And I've copied the files into my contrib area. They'll show up there some time in the next hour. [e-smith-devinfo] problem with manager url in SME 5
Hi all, Today I reported a possible bug in mod_gzip when you use it with SME5. I reported this, because after an uninstallation my awstats graphics appeared again and my phpbb forum worked. That was wat I found out at school while connecting via a SSH tunnel to my home SME 5 manager and server. Now I'm home again and when I accessed my server manager the awstats graphics didn't appear! I found out what the problem was. In e-smith 4.1.x I could use this url in my case to access the e-smith-manager: http://e-smith.minddigger.com/e-smith-manager The SME 5 manual says this url is changed in http://www.yourdomain.xxx/server-manager When I access my server manager by this url the awstats graphics don't appear but when I use http://192.168.1.1:980 they do! So, this problem wasn't probably a bug in mod_gzip, I think it is a minor bug in the SME manager url (and dns process). I don't know this for sure and want to know your opinions of this issue before I report it as a serious bug to e-smith/mitel. I didn't reinstall the phpBB yet, so I can't confirm yet if this problem was definitely caused by the mod_gzip module. I'll stay tuned and post any more usefull information about this... Re: [e-smith-devinfo] Bug reporting (was Re: problem with manager url in SME 5)
Okay Charlie, so I don't need to reply on your previous mail because this is the whole issue :-). You can't also see the graphics?? Did you also try http://ipofyourserver:980?? As I described the graphics showed up when I used this url. That's why I thought it was a bug in the e-smith manager url, but maybe that's a false alarm. I just reinstalled phpBB without major problems (yes a few but that's because I'm trying to convert my Ikonboard forum to the phpBB forum and has nothing to do with e-smith/sme), so I think the login failures in phpBB admin console are caused by mod_gzip and I think this is a little bug in this module. I don't have the awstats package installed. So, no, I don't see the graphics. :-) Did you also try http://ipofyourserver:980?? As I described the graphics showed up when I used this url. That's probably correct. The interface from the standard web server to the admin web server which runs on port 980 has changed in version 5.0. It now uses the ProxyPass module to do a passthrough, rather than sending a redirect to the browser. That's why I thought it was a bug in the e-smith manager url, but maybe that's a false alarm. No, it's not a false alarm, and it is a bug, but it's not with with manager URL. The awstats package will need to have some changes done to make it compatible with V5.0. OK. Hopefully the maintainers of those packages will be able to fix whatever problems they have. Unfortunately, we don't have any spare resources to fix packages that are contributions by others. I'm sure that you'll understand that. Hi, I rather don't know if this is a bug or some of my configuration error. Due to my ISP problems I have to drop all my mail in one pop-box and retreive it using fetchmail to retreive the mail for the right users. I have one slight problem and that is if a pseudonym/alias is used to send mail to, the mail is dropped into the administrators box. [e-smith-devinfo] Mac people please: Netatalk and i-bay restrictions
Could I have some MacOS aware volunteers to test changes? We currently have the following in the Information Bays panel: User access via file sharing or user ftp: Write = Group, Read = Group Write = Group, Read = Everyone (*) Write = Admin, Read = Group (*) (*) User access modes marked with an asterisk are not supported by the Macintosh file sharing component. If you select one of those modes, this i-bay will not be available via Macintosh file sharing. I have done some limited testing under MacOS 9.1 and I believe that the modes marked with (*) can be supported. Naturally, we'd like to remove the restrictions if we can. Initially, please try out the following: cd /etc/e-smith/templates/etc/atalk/AppleVolumes.default mkdir -p /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/etc/atalk/AppleVolumes.default cp 40Otheri-bays $! Comment out the two lines containing UserAccess /sbin/e-smith/signal-event workgroup-update Now, what we need to check is whether the restrictions are properly enforced under various versions of MacOS (they will be enforced on the server, but the errors may potentially be weird on older MacOS versions).
