Try reducing the input level.

I am using the creative mp3 usb for wsjt, and i have to set the input
level slider near the botton for wsjt. Same slider is is in top position
for psk31 or other modes. WSJT is too sensitive for normal position.

RTTY is on all the time and is 100 % duty cycle all
the time. It does not mater if you are feeding the
tones into a ssb audio input or if you are shifting
the carrier of the transmitter.

At one time very long ago rtty was make break keying
but that mode has not been used in over 40 years.
Atleast not in any common usage.

[digitalradio] Mode du Jour /Universe of users ( was ) Do we need a separate group for JT65A?

2007-04-11 Thread Andrew O'Brien

With regard to the question about should the JT65A talk be shifted to it's
own dedicated group, Danny is correct, he pointed out that I formed this
group years ago when the custom was to have a group for each mode. I
wanted to discuss them all, not go to an individual group for each mode.

One issue , with the less used digital modes, is the fact that after a
while you are working the same people over and over again. This is true for
ALE, Olivia, DominoEX, Feld Hell, PAX2, and more. PSK31, RTTY, and MFSK16
are the only ones that seem to have wide enough use to produce variety .
Even RTTY in contests tends to be the same 200-300 hams. JT65A has a new
crop of call signs that are not commonly seen on the other experimental
digital modes but time will tell, whether this mode will become popular
enough to ensure some freshness of contacts.

Maybe what we need is a new group for PSK31 and RTTY. Those are mature
modes,
and people who doesn't want to wouldn't be forced to bother about
innovation.

I'm using the same Signalink model Sl-1. Other then the USB
connection they are the same. I have found that you must really
give it a lot of RX audio. Then it works just fine. So crank it up

Re: [digitalradio] Mode du Jour /Universe of users ( was ) Do we need a separate group for JT65A?

2007-04-11 Thread w6ids

Hello Andy...

The group has been an interesting read for me, regardless of the nature of
threads. That said, your message seems to follow the focus on repetitive
station or callsign activity. Isn't that the nature of the message which
started this thread when jhaynesatalumni wrote:

Or is the message volume going to die down after everybody here has
 worked everybody on all bands?

While I agree with you wholeheardedly, the thread almost begs the question
what's the purpose of the forum? Fresh callsigns for JT65A or popularity
won't change the basic reason for the message segment quoted above,
as I see it. The quote seems to have an issue with the message volume.

If the other modes have limited numbers of users, the activity will be low
but the message volume high and just as focused as for JT65A until a level
of balance is reached. Yet, they do not draw the same type of observation
as has just happened for JT65A. When the other experimental modes
appeared, were there not very active message threads within a limited
following - albeit still limited?

The forum seems to be perfect for NEW modes or the adapting of a mode
for another use. The JT65A level and type of message activity seems to
be a perfect fit for the forum at this point in time. The activity and back
'n forth chatter is healthy and energetic. Otherwise, what's the point of
the forum? If not this activity, then what else?

Just musing..

I cranked the signalink usb to full power and it still wasn't strong enough.
However the software has a digital gain in it. When I increased that it seemed
to work fine. I didn't have time to test it with an actual signal, but will
test it tonight.

Thanks. K6WRJ

A few things to check:
1-- make sure the MONITOR button is pressed.
2-- look at the WSJT DOS window that comes up-- it will ID the sound
input and output devices Windoze will find. enter the correct number
in the WSJT SETUP box-- I have two soundcards-- one SB16 and the
motherboard sound card. I had to tell it to use device 2 and 4 for the
SB16

[digitalradio] Problems with MT63 w/ Yaesu FT-897D

2007-04-11 Thread Patricia Gibbons

I recently added soundcard modes to my FT-897D via MIXW and the
Tigertronics SignaLinkUSB interface ..

All modes seem to work fine except for MT63

I'd like to know if others on the list have run into problems using
MT63, and if they have found solutions that allowed it to work

Does MT63 have a really high peak to average transmit power
characteristic ??? If so, is a peak-reading wattmeter needed in this
case in order to measure RF output power correctly ??

Rick,

I have had amazing results on 80M with Olivia 500/16. With QRN crashes
to 10 over nine, I was got near perfect print from a station in Florida
that normally would run at S 7. True, the speed is a bit slow but a
greater speed is provided with Contestia which I have used but have not
yet tried under high QRN. I see no reason that Contestia 500/16 would
not perform as well.
