Yes Dave,

Apart from my test PC virus/malware protection, whenever there is a
change in an executable or dll I run them through an online scanner
(20MB file limit) here http://virusscan.jotti.org/en/

It runs the submitted file through 19 different scanners, with the
occasional false-positive on one or two. Results of the scans are shared
with the anti-virus companies.

The site generates a permalink for each file that allows you to
distribute the scanning results to whomever.

Just ran the 3 executables through the site

Then why don't they filter it at the cluster?
Makes more sence, if you ask me.

[digitalradio] Re: Cool Spectrum Analyser

2010-07-25 Thread pseudospark

Long ago I built several VLF (audio freq) receivers with various active and
passive filters. The better ones were too big to take into the field and the
better ones didn't perform well. Some number of years ago I got one of Steve
McGreevy's little WR-3 series receivers (see
http://www.auroralchorus.com/wr3gde.htm) and it was considerably better/handier
than anything I'd built. The analog filtering is good enough to drop hum to
pretty low levels when in the country a half mile or more away from power lines
but it's still pretty bad when lines are closer.

A few years ago DL4YHF added a very nice hum filter to Spectrum Lab and it
works very well. I can actually place the receiver a hundred or so ft from the
house (I'm sort of in the sticks anyway) and get good results receiving the
various tweeks, whistlers and other things that comprise sferics.

McGreevy's site contains a lot of recordings that he's made in remote areas.

Also check out Renato Romero's site at http://www.vlf.it/. His book, Radio
Nature is quite good and is now avail in English translation through the ARRL.

I've been using Spectrum Lab for years for the reception of natural radio
VLF sferics in the 100 Hz to 20 kHz range. It has very effective 50 or 60 Hz
filtering which permits the receiver to be used surprisingly close to
 residential power lines.

The programmer shouldn't use clusters to promote his software! That's the whole
point. Jose Nieto-Ros intentionally misuses propagation tools like DX clusters
and psk-reporter over the back of his users, who act, by using the software,
against well established operating practice.

José has shown his opportunist intentions clearly by his actions in the past.
And since intention is the basis for meaning, it shows (me) that he is not
an ignorant beginning programmer that has to learn from his mistakes, but a
professional engineer who perfectly knows what he is doing. And apparently a
bunch of weekend operators that have made making QRM their hobby: just see how
often ROS users call on top of packet/pactor/winmor/MT63 stations, and ignore
when a frequency is in use.

At least some progress has been made.

Only in a relative sense...

I see the current version of ROS as a gun with a silencer on it. It makes less
noise, which might be called progress, but it doesn't make the gun less
destructive. So it's nature is the still the same.

A safety pin on a gun, doesn't make the gun less destructive Sigi...

Right but prevents loosing a shot by accident while the gun is in your
pocket

There are still users that do not know what is the soft doing in the
background as not all users read the news (this group and others)

If every user switches the function off it is like jose never programmed it

He uses the same triggers for the psk reporter page (map view)

So why not just switch spots off and enjoy the nice view on the map

We can use the programmed (hardcoded) clusters for sending INTERRESTING
spots by hand

So just use what we have with the needed options

I do not like that joses soft is spamming the clusters

As some sysops do not forward ros spots anymore jose has to change them in
every new version

If spots were set to off nobody would be angry about some hand spotted calls

The massive flooding (about 20 + spot per hour) is the problem

So the safety pin is fine

But in a new installed version the pin is set to unsafe

A gun can be a weapon to kill . or just a sport gun .. for precisely making
a hole in a paper some ten feet away

So it depends on for what you use that gun

I like the sportive way .

See how far I can go with a few watts on a simple antenna

But others might use it for :how many winmore stations can I make angry .

So you see it depends on the users .. .and what are the users .. WE ARE

So it is our role to handle the gun safely in a sportive way . not kill
somebody

So you see I also can tell stories in metaphors
