[digitalradio] Net14 Report for August 2010
Hi Guys The August 2010 Net14 APRS Report has been uploaded to the Net14 & Net28 News page of www.net14.org.uk . A number of Net14 transatlantic contacts in August and a report of an APRS/GMSK-250 contact between the USA and Australia. Not on the Net14 20m frequency but on 30m in this instance. But significant for the trials of the mode we are running on Net14 and Net28. Details of the setup of these trials are on the Net14 & Net28 + GMSK page of the website. 73 Jim, G0JXN/MB7UXN
[digitalradio] Net14 + GMSK250
Hi Guys When Chris, G4HYG, launched APRS-Messenger with PSK63 several Net14 members experimented with the mode along side 300bd APRs on 14.103 MHz but generally found that it was prone to errors and showed little or no advantage over 300bd APRS. Chris has now introduced GMSK250 into APRS Messenger which seems to have good APRS DX potential. It has a wider bandwidth than PSK63 but is much faster which reduces the chances of data collisions and problems from QRM/QRN that we experience on HF SSB. Some Net14 members are experimenting with the mode and you are invited to join in. For setup details go to www.net14.org.uk on the Net14 & Net28 + GMSK page. 73 Jim, G0JXN/MB7UXN
[digitalradio] Net14/Net28 July 2010 Report
Hi Guys The Net14/Net28 News for July 2010 has been uploaded to www.net14.org.uk . Not a very exciting month with no contacts outside Europe reported for Net14 and nothing at all for Net28. But in the midst of preparing the report on 2nd August TU5KC-14, Didier in the Ivory Coast, appeared on my Net14 map. So here's hoping for better conditions this month. 73 Jim, G0JXN/MB7UXN
[digitalradio] Net14 June Report
Hi Guys The Net14/Net28 June 2010 report has been uploaded to the www.net14.org.uk News page. It reports on the APRS activity during the month, in the form of a table of contacts and maps, on 14.103 & 28.140 MHz (KAM tones & LSB). 73 Jim, G0JXN/MB7UXN
[digitalradio] Net28
Hi Guys The purpose of this message is to advise the introduction of an APRS channel on the 10 metre band. I have had some success in the past with APRS on 29.250MHz/FM but that mode is not permitted in the United States, which obviously limited the interest. The proposal is therefore to establish a channel in the 28.120 28.150 MHz Narrow Band Digital segment of the band. Net28 The operating parameters for the channel will be the same as that for Net14 and are laid out in full on www.net14.org.uk on the Project Setup page. The main points being as follows:- 1. Frequency. 28.140 MHz SSB/LSB. This is the dial setting for KAM tones. For PK-232 tones (AGWPE) add 510Hz. The frequency has been chosen to make it easy to remember by association with the Net14. 2. Baud Rate. As with Net14 and general HF practice the baud rate is 300bd. Please remember that at 300bd a frame will take 4 times as long to transmit as the 1200bd used on 2m. So keep beacons and messages as short as possible and adjust your beacon interval against conditions. 15 minutes seems a good starting point. 3. Digipeaters. If there is a digi in your area doing a better job than your station can then leave it to that station. Please, please, please do not crossband 2m because it will clutter up the channel to no good purpose. Also crossband from 30m can be a no no because of the presence of crossbanded 2m stations. Particularly vehicles transmitting their position every few minutes. And please no Internet to RF Gates. We may however find it worthwhile to crossband 20m<>10m to bridge gaps in the Net. 4. SSIDs. We use 14 on Net14 to indicate 20m operation but unfortunately 28 is not possible with AX25. Bob Bruninga, WB4APR, has recently suggested a revised list of SSID allocations in which 15 may be used for HF, so 15 is what is suggested for Net28. Why should we use these SSIDs? Because it allows the station's originating frequency to be identified. 5. Path. Stations should try and adopt the new n-N Paradigm (Details in the Project Setup). 6. Mobiles. 10m operation is obviously attractive for portable and mobile operation but if you are mobile please do not transmit your GPS minute by minute.. Good DX & 73 Jim, G0JXN/MB7UXN
[digitalradio] Net14 May 2010 Report
Hi Guys The Net14 APRS activity report for May 2010 has been uploaded to the Net14 News page on www.net14.org.uk . Check out what we are doing on 20m. 73 Jim, G0JXN/MB7UXN
[digitalradio] Net14 in Africa
Hi Guys I am pleased to announce that APRS Group, Net14, has it's first African member, namely Didier, TU5KC, in Adibjan on the Ivory Coast. Over the past couple of weeks there have been exchanges of messages with members in Europe on our 20m frequency of 14.103MHz. For contact details go to www.net14.org.uk in the Stoppress pages. 73 Jim, G0JXN/MB7UXN
[digitalradio] Re: 10m APRS
Hi Guys Don, on HF the general rule is keep the packets short because it is slow and more subject to QRM/QRN except on 29.250MHz/FM which is not realy much different to VHF. With regard to UNPROTO path WIDE3-3 is as about as high as is worth going but be aware that the new paradigm has not yet filtered down to all HF APRS operators. There is an article of mine that gives tips on HF APRS operating on www.bandscommunications.co.uk under the 'articles'/'aprs on hf' tabs but it is dated prior the new paradigm. You may also be interesed to checkout www.net14.org.uk and see what a group of us are doing on 20m. 73 Jim, G0JXN/MB7UXN --- In digitalradio@yahoogroups.com, Don KF4CUP wrote: > > > interesting, not overly familiar with APRS on HF FM on 10 meters (or > anywhere else on HF for that matter). any particular UNPROTO path > parameters i need to be aware of ? > > i can do a little searching on the internet and figure out some thing, > any help is a plus .am usually on > VFH on Sunday evenings into monday during the day > .. > > > 73 > don kf4cup > > > On 3/30/2010 8:22 AM, g0jxn wrote: > > > > Hi Guys > > > > I am QRV APR on 29.250MHz/FM 1200bd with MB7UXN-2 call. > > > > 73 > > > > Jim, G0JXN/MB7UXN > > > > >

[digitalradio] Re: Net14 + PK-63
Hi Guys Andy, if you wish to join in the Net14 activities with just PSK-63 then by all means do so but I stress this frequency is not for general QSOs. If you are just running a PSK-63 program set your dial to 14.103MHz LSB and the PSK tone to 1300Hz. If you are running an APRS program under AGWPE then set the dial to 14.103,510MHz LSB and the PSK tone to 1800Hz. Whatever, the tone will be at 14.101,700MHz. If you do join us on Net14 I would appreciate you inserting your IARU Locator in your beacon so that you appear on my map. 73 Jim, G0JXN/MB7UXN --- In digitalradio@yahoogroups.com, "obrienaj" wrote: > > I'm still confused... if I want to try PSK63 instead of 300 baud packet, do > i use the same frequencies and sideband ? > > Andy K3UK > > --- In digitalradio@yahoogroups.com, "g0jxn" wrote: > > > > Hi Guys > > > > Andy, the frequencies listed on the web site are for APRS 300bd, except 10m > > which is 1200bd. [digitalradio] Re: Net14 + PK-63
Hi Guys Andy, the frequencies listed on the web site are for APRS 300bd, except 10m which is 1200bd. The setup I describe is specifically as an adjunct to Net14 and not a PSK-63 general QSO frequency. With regard to Long/Lat v Grid Square, the choice is yours but the Grid Square shortens the packet which has to be an advantage for DX working. Incidentally N3FLR and I exchanged beacons and messages yesterday but with errors. 73 Jim, G0JXN/MB7UXN --- In digitalradio@yahoogroups.com, Andy obrien wrote: > > My beacon is > > K3UK-14 [FN02HK ]. > > I also produce > > > K3UK>APSK63:K3UK FN02hk > K3UK>APSK63:K3UK FN02hk > K3UK-14>APSK63:::{1 > K3UK-14>APSK63:::{1 > K3UK-14>APSK63:::{1 > > while playing around.. > > > > On Sun, Mar 21, 2010 at 2:15 AM, Andy obrien wrote: > > > Thanks Jim.
