Re: [digitalradio] City attempts to shut down ham radio .... !!
Try a different link. http://forums.qrz.com/showpost.php?p=1632618postcount=179 It referenceses something more useful than YouTube, too. excerpt: Any use permit for a ham radio antenna shall include a condition that it shall be inspected annually to certify its safety and to verify that liability insurance is in effect and also that the ham radio equipment may be inspected without prior notice upon the receipt by the City of a complaint that the radio operation is causing interference with neighbors electronic devices due to the use of higher wattage than allowed by the FCC. The City shall provide this inspection service at applicantÂ’s cost. Permittees shall pay an annual inspection fee adopted by Resolution of the City Council in an amount sufficient to reimburse the City for an inspector qualified to inspect amateur radio equipment. What this has to do with digital modes, however, I can't say! Re: [digitalradio] City attempts to shut down ham radio .... !!
I can't find that link. I know there was to be an amassing of local hams at their meeting last night. The city council was apparently intending to 'brute force' this onto their agenda and bury it. I've not heard anything from anyone locally yet. I'll pass it along as soon as I can. Their ordinance is not a joke, unfortunately it's real. The local governments here feel they are above the law and are out to prove it for some reason. Another nearby city (Lancaster) has implemented a $500 fine if you have weeds in your yard or haven't mowed it in a while from what I've been told. In fact, I'll host it on my website if some kind soul will find it, scan it, and make the softcopy available to me. I had expected that the judge in any appeal would view PRB-1 and any state statute (section 65680.3 of the Government Code, in this instance) as supporting the ham in the action, and this judge did exactly that, which is good. He put the cherry on top, though, by declaring the City Council decision to be an abuse of discretion and by noting that the City's brief is based on local ordinances with only a passing reference to the statute. That's a pretty good slap on the sensitive parts for the Council and their attorney, who *REALLY* should have known better. Now, when's MixW going to get code to support RSID? Many's the time I've found myself fishing for the right settings in Olivia or some other digimode. -- Mike Andrews, W5EGO mi...@mikea.ath.cx Tired old sysadmin
Re: [digitalradio] City attempts to shut down ham radio .... !!
my take on the video was a couple middle aged hippies in an RV bitching about the county wishing to regulate the antenna height, but never said anything of real value other then a rant. The woman seemed to make a great stoned parrot though! I too am not a fan of youtube so I dont allow it on my personal system as it is blocked, but from the library I dont mind, I dont have to clean up the cookies and other junk!
