Re: [digitalradio] Re: ARQ Soundcard Modes
Hello, Note: there are not the only modes without documentation... No amateur modes. The optimum possible is the DominoEX specifications of Murray ZL1BPU (a professional work). Some amateur modes are only documented through source. It's possible to extract specifications from a source but it's a very big (and boring) job. Some others amateur modes are only documented through general ideas. Sometimes you can guess the remainder, sometimes no. If a request is made to view the documentation is there an explanation as to why it is secret? The amateur world is not the professional world. There is simply no documentation because it's fun to create a new mode, boring to write detailed specifications. Amateurs can answer to your questions according to their memory, that's all. 73 Patrick - Original Message - From: kd4e To: digitalradio@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sunday, September 17, 2006 7:11 PM Subject: Re: [digitalradio] Re: ARQ Soundcard Modes Note: there are not the only modes without documentation... 73 Patrick Are the other undocumented modes also commercial products? Re: [digitalradio] Re: ARQ Soundcard Modes
Hello, Is it just that the Pactor mode allows only a very short time for the ACK/NAK, or is there some synchronization from packet to packet that must be maintained? The second proposal is the good one. Is it possible that one could write a sound card program that could monitor Pactor II/III transmissions even if it can't interoperate with the SCS TNC? If the (detailed) specifications of Pactor II and III were public, it would be possible to monitor these transmissions (but not work them, for the same problem as for Pactor 1). 73 Patrick [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] Need a Digital mode QSO? A question for you, Patrick: in your opinion, is the public documentation for Pactor 2 and Pactor 3 sufficient to allow you to build your own implementations? 73, Dave, AA6YQ --- In digitalradio@yahoogroups.com, Patrick Lindecker [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello, Is it just that the Pactor mode allows only a very short time for the ACK/NAK, or is there some synchronization from packet to packet that must be maintained? Re: [digitalradio] Re: ARQ Soundcard Modes
Hello Dave, I have got all the possible documentation about these two modes (Pactor 2 and 3). But in fact, I did not find the detailed specifications, only general specifications which gives several ideas about these modes but nothing more. However, I found the Pactor 1 detailed specifications (English translation of the German original specifications), which allowed me to implement it (FEC mode only). I'm still trying to understand this matter of precision timing.
