To get the browser's window width and height you just need the dimensions plugin found in SVN. It extends the core .height() and .width() methods to work with window and document in addition to HTML elements. But I have actually written an article for the upcoming Visual jQuery magazine ("Hijaxing with jQuery"). I'd like to write jQuerials, but on the other hand, I still have to develop the tabs plugin, I'm volunteering with Jörn to maintain and develop Thickbox and well - I'm pretty busy with the Plazes rewrite which will be relaunched in April. And those user's like me, that don't know to much about the substance, (sadly enough, I know) are left alone with bad how-to's, mean user-lists, etc. That's one of the reasons I chose jQuery to stuck with. Everything is better here! I'm really to unexperienced to make a sole technical decision on which library s better or worse. I was convinced by the friendly user base and the good docu. Yes, Rick, you're absolutely right about the need for beginner-level tutorials. I have a couple in the works, but my time the past month or so has been very limited. It doesn't look like it's going to get much better for another few months, but I'll try my best to keep them coming.
