That is great Dirk.

One thing that always gets me in the AGM meeting is how little I know about
what is going on in our organization. If you have any ideas about making
local chapters activities more visible to our community it would be
appreciated.

Hopefully listing events local chapters are attending on the website can
help help in a small way, and email threads like this one.

Hey Bob,

Please contact me directly (no need to burden the list with noise). I can give
some pointers, which at the same time will be the start of a checklist for
future reference for other events. To be published in the Marketing wiki and
announced on this list (better signal to noise ratio)

2017-10-24 Thread Dirk Frigne
Jody,

This is exactly what we are doing with OSGeo.BE.
Last edition (Mar 2017) we attended BeGeo[1], an event where more than
1000 GIS experts attend.
In 2018 the event will be even attract more people. We want to have a
booth there, and are also organising one of the 9 parallel tracks [2]:

I suggested as the title of the track: How open collaboration can help
geospatial intelligence to the next level?

2017-10-24 Thread Jody Garnett
I think it would be great of we promote events that OSGeo is attending in
an official capacity (like if a local chapter has a booth or something).
Guido has set up a number of guest appearances for OSGeo (mostly partner
events) in 2017 and we could of promoted our attendance a bit more.

Getting OSGeo present at more "normal" GIS events would be a great outreach
goal for 2018.

All,

Related to chanpter meetings (somewhat), we have a Regional Geo-event coming
together for this coming May. It will have a fairly high OSGeo footprint as
well.

The last event two years ago, pulled in 250 attendees, shooting for 300-350
this time around. What’s the best way to promote this type of (somewhat
fractional) OSGeo event in the OSGeo universe? We’ll have 15-20% OSGeo based
presentations.

Yep, that's the "drug trap" as I call it.
It's the reason why Microsoft is "donating" licenses to schools.
Also the danger of GitHub.

Hi,

Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, I didn't know about those
alternatives (and I presume that the rest of the team too, since no one
suggested them).
It is also the same bias as github, where everybody knows it so it is also
a bit more attractive too people.
Some of us also had worked on transifex for other FOSS projects, so we had
this knowledge to help us set up the whole process.

It is a bit late now to see how it works, ask SAC to provide an instance
and test its integration with sphinx.
But it will be studied if we plan to leave Transifex in the future.

Best regards,

[OSGeo-Discuss] Nice turnout at the most recent Twin Cities OSGeo Chapeter (TCMUG) Meeting last night.

2017-10-24 Thread Basques, Bob (CI-StPaul)
All,

We had a nice turnout at the last Twin Cities OSGeo Chapter (TCMUG) meeting.
See
here.

Based on discussion at the last meeting, the next meeting is tentatively
scheduled for Nov. 30th, @ Barrel Theory Beer
Company in downtown Saint Paul @4:30

Directions.

Let me know how this works for everyone. The date is somewhat flexible, but
the Thanksgiving holiday week is just before this date and a couple of the
group will be out of town the week before that.
