[slim] Media Center version of Softsqueeze?
I've recently gone nuts with my Squeezebox setup at home: its made a dream of whole home audio a reality. I installed 4 SB3's and am ordering a couple more (if they will still honor a 100off2 promo still showing on the site). One thing I love and it saves some money is that Softsqueeze works very well and allows rooms with PCs in them to also synchronize the music. My office runs it now, and I want to extend this to the Media Center PC which powers our TV as a DVR. That way, we can still run a picture slideshow and have the same music playing as the rest of the house, via the existing AV setup. I can run softsqueeze in the background (either headless or full) but there's no easy way to control it via the Media Center's interface and running to the PC to stop or start it via the Slimserver web interface is a pain. Any chance of getting a MCE-friendly version of Softsqueeze? - Steve -- SteveWong SteveWong's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4867 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22735 ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Could you try with the TrackStat version attached with this post, it contains some more log messages which should make it possible to see if there are TrackStat code executed at the moment or not. Also, in the log it looks like a track is removed in the following line: 2006-04-04 06:12:45.1008 _hasChanged: removing [D:\Music\FLAC\Múm\Summer Make Good\08-Away.flac] from the db as it no longer exists. Do you know if you were playing this track or just about to start playing it when the crash occurred ? If you are not sure, maybe you can look for this line the next time it crashes and see if it is the current playing track ? I am not sure, but I suspect that the problem is related to the removed track in some way. +---+ |Filename: TrackStat-1.13-withmorelogging.zip | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1167| +---+ -- erland Erland Isaksson 'My homepage' (http://erland.homeip.net) 'My download page' (http://erland.homeip.net/download) erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22677 ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: Rescan Music Library Takes Forever.
I've seen some weird behavior as well with this version: 6.2.2 - 6804 - Linux - EN - iso-8859-1 When rescanning the library from scratch, I noticed the db files stopped growing. After a few hours I looked to see what it was doing and it seemed to be stuck in a recursive symlink while trying to walk the directory stucture. Odd thing was, it was doing this well outside the music library area. I deleted the recursive symlink and it then just sat getting the current time of day over and over. I killed slimserver and restarted it. The db file(s) it created seemed to be ok because it didn't complain. -- rudholm rudholm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2980 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22729 ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

And you shouldn't be, your server is fast enough. Now nearly the same thing happened to me with 1500 songs and a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz. I wasn't listening to music at the time, but Browse Music Folder caused SlimServer to become completely unresponsive and even crash a few times. I think the problem was I didn't have my music arranged in the expected Artist/Album folder structure. That brute-force listing of ~1500 tracks was enough to bring SlimServer and my P4 2.8 to its knees. If you have 5000 songs arranged in a single folder, it will be much, much worse, especially on your PIII 800 MHz. So are you using an Artist/Album folder structure? Fortunately if you don't, the solution is simple and free with Mp3tag. [slim] Jumpy songs?
What can cause the SB or SS to skip from a song to the next? This is running 6.2.1 (again) after running on 6.2.2 for a while. Could it be the new firmware is incompatible with 6.2.1? When I suggested upgrading SS above, I forgot we were talking about a PC-to-router connection problem. Still the insight that an authentication restart seems to be what reconnects you makes me think you should experiment with enabling a different wireless security method on the access point. If a less-secure method proves reliable, perhaps you could compensate with MAC address filtering. -- abdomen abdomen's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1205 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22713 ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

If these drop-outs are inevitable, > I'll invest in a Homeplug set up. Any thoughts welcome! "Repair" is friendly-talk for "perform a DHCP release followed by a DHCP renew". Perhaps you have more than one device acting as a DHCP server. At any rate, one way to ensure you don't need to keep hitting repair is to assign your computer a static IP address, thus bypassing DHCP. Here's how: - Open a command prompt (Start-->Run-->type CMD, click OK). - Type "ipconfig /all" and hit Enter. Leave this window open. - Open Network Connections (it's in Control Panel). - Right-click on your wireless connection and click Properties. - Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" from the list and click the Properties button. - Select "Use following IP address" and "Use the following DNS server addresses". - In each of the fields on the General tab, enter the corresponding IP address from the ipconfig listing in the command window. - Click OK, and OK again, and close the control panel and command prompt windows. If you do this, you will need to prevent IP address conflicts (more than one computer/Squeezebox/etc. trying to use the same IP address). One simple way is to assign the computer a static IP that is higher than the ones the DHCP server is assigning. In other words, if ipconfig showed that your computer had been assigned the address 192.168.1.2, assign it 192.168.1.100. The other way is to assign static IP addresses to your Squeezebox and any other computers on your home network, and keep a list so that you do not accidentally use the same address twice. I should qualify my original post, perhaps. I, too, have run all sorts of different music server scenarios. To address the issue of noise and power consumption, I used a VIA processor fanless mini-itx machine (I think it was a Hush technologies box). But the reason I am such a fan of the ReadyNas is primarily because it provides a great deal of functionality while reducing the complexity of running a PC (particularly one running windows). With all the storage-attached-to-computer scenarios I used, I always found that something would eventually fall down in the chain of products that had been strung together. For example, an OS problem, or a hardware component problem that had little to do with the storage components, or a corrupted driver, etc. As for electricity costs - yes, I was using a fast P4 server, which was not ideal for this task alone. I figured out the cost by turning everything off for a day, except the machine and looking at my electricity consumption for that day alone. I did this over a three day period and took an average. Perhaps the ReadyNas is overkill for most people and not appropriate. I like the other features it offers - such as streaming video service. I like to put my video collection on the box and serve it to different players in the house. I like the fact that I can connect to it overseas using an encrypted https connection, browse and upload files, connect to the music server, stream video, etc. If I wanted to attached a terabyte of storage to anything else without putting it inside a computer (so I could easily connect it to another computer if the first one died) - I'd have to set up an external disk RAID box - which is, in effect, what the ReadyNAS is. So, to me, it's a much simpler and more elegant scenario. It's also easy to administer from a browser (which controls all the functions of the device) and, most importantly, the infrant support team keep adding features to it on a regular basis. A lot of companies don't. Anyway, that's my humble opinion on it all. -- slimditty slimditty's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4829 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22662 ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Access to SlimServer 6.2 from the internet
Im doing my head in trying to get Softsqueeze to work across the internet via SSH and have read (and tried) all the suggestions on here but with limited success so hope someone can suggest a fix. First of all my setup: Home PC has the Slim and SSH server installed on it and the XP firewall has been configured to allow SSH(22) and Slimserver(9000&3483) through. Router has been setup so SSH & Slimserver ports forward to home PC. Work PC is running Putty and obviously Softsqueeze. First of all I tried configuring Softsqueeze to use the built-in SSH but just could not connect no matter what I tried. Well it did actually start talking to my home PC because I got the usual warning messages and was prompted for user name and password but after that it just gave the message Failed to connect so I then started using Putty. I have it configured so that local port 9000 connects to madeupname.homedns.org:9000 and local port 3483 connects to madeupname.homedns.org:3483 (Im using the DynDNS service). Running Putty connects and allows me to login without a problem and running netstat a on my work PC shows that a connection has been made to my home PC on port 22. I then run Softsqueeze which has been configured to localhost in the network section and no SSH but all I get is a repeated message saying lost contact with Slimserver. Everything seems to be in place and working as I can connect to my Slimserver via a browser using madeupname.homedns.org:9000 and if I configure Softsqueeze to madeupname.homedns.org in the network section it connects and work perfectly. The drawback with that is that it is not running via SSH. At this stage I just cannot think what more to try so any suggestions are most welcome. -- eagleeye eagleeye's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4780 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20592 ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Re: Breadcrumb menu option?
I think his question was the opposite of what you answered. His question is: Why is "now playing" in the menus when it's already a button. May be the opposite, but it's still the same "problem": there are options available through the menu and from the remote. Whatever way you look at it. -- Michael --- Help translate SlimServer by using the SlimString Translation Helper (http://www.herger.net/slim/) ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I've used it - because I wrote the plugin ;-) The SlimServer plugin for Meedio basically acts as a replacement front end for the SlimServer web interface (controlling players, building playlists etc). Meedio does come in a free (express?) edition and a paid for edition - I've never used the 'express' version so I don't know if the plugins will work with it (I'm suspecting not).
