That seems to be the Slimdevices pathos these days - Sell product, sell shares, sell the farm - we'll leave software development up to the community. How stable are the > nightlies at the moment - worth giving recent nightly a try? If still > a while to go before next official release, i'll go back to previous > version... I've never seen a timeline published for any SlimServer release. The usual reason for pushing out a release is in support of some new hardware. So 6.5.2 could be released in a month or in six months. The next major release - 7.0 - looks to be many, many months away. One of the techs comments in the bug report that they're not seeing this in 7.0, but that's pretty tenuous, since not more than a handful of people are really using 7.0. The nightlies of 6.5.2 are quite stable, but don't bother with them if you're looking for a fix for this bug. From the report in the bug database, it doesn't appear that it's really being worked on. [slim] Can u help?
Hi there. I am looking to set up a facility where i can play music from one location (using OTSDJ) and send this over the internet via broadband (in the UK) to a remote location... I have been led to believe that a Squeezebox is the best product for this...? 1. Is this true? 2. Has anyone successfully set up a remote site such as this? 3. Can anyone please help me in how this would be set up? Thanks very much... -- Bob Bob's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10537 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=3 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I see this scenario posted all the time on this forum. The problem I see more often than not with Windows slimserver installations is that the users are employing all manner of other garbage on these machines-- some by choice: anti-virus, personal firewall; some not: viruses, spyware, malware, etc.. These often cause conflicts of interest with SS. Linux tends to not be hampered by this stuff as much, somewhat by its design, but also because it caters to crazed tinkerers (myself included), who often have the knowledge to fix such things. I wrote the original post nearly a year ago, so some things have changed on both platforms since then. I do continue to use both platforms side by side in my home (because each has its set of benefits). I still have a personal preference for the SlimServer + Squeezebox platform though members of my family have the opposite preference. WRT multiroom syncing, people's experience with the SBs and TPs have been variable - for some people (like you) it seems to just work perfectly, while others seem to have no end of trouble - at least that was the impression I got at the time of the review. On the other hand with the Sonos I don't recall anyone ever having a problem - it always just works out of the box with minimal fuss or configuration. The controller, as most people have acknowledged, is probably the strongest selling point. The controller is WiFi. In addition to the WiFi controller, there is a Desktop controller for Mac and Win and an AJAX based Web COntrol that has been and continues to be developed by the user community. -- Nikhil Nikhil's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=993 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=23490 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Non Loading Library
Bless my supplier, he came up with the answer and it is: The Music Folder and Playlist Folder should be set to /ext/mnt/music - this is the internal location of \\SlimServer-01\Public\music So you Qnap people out there.. that's is what to do! Don't erase it! (as I seemed to have done! Re: [slim] Slimserver won't start on mac os x
It's not clear to me what versions of SlimServer you have been using. I believe there was a change in the caching between some versions, and this has caused trouble for some people. Anyway it can't do any harm to delete the cache, though it may not help. It's at ~/Library/Caches/SlimServer -- danco danco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=210 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33317 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Windows vs Linux - your OS of choice for SS
A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33301 Question: Windows vs Linux - your OS of choice for SS - Windows - Linux I used to run Slimserver on a dedicated FreeBSD machine that was built from bits I had lying around (500MHz AMD K6, 256 MB RAM). But then it occured to me that it was silly having two servers running 24/7, so I moved Slimserver to the household file/email/web/etc server (533MHz mini-ITX, 512MB RAM), which happens to run Windows 2000. Slimserver has worked pretty much flawlessly on both machines. I've never understood why so many people seem to have problems getting it running reliably on Windows. -- cliveb Performers -> dozens of mixers and effects -> clipped/hypercompressed mastering -> you think a few extra ps of jitter matters? cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33301 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Transporter broken?
Robin, sorry, I misplaced my reply. Indeed the failure of the Transporter is harsh and irritating, not your comments, which were welcome and friendly. Haunyack I did indeed need to vent. Now I will focus on getting the problem solved. I will let you know how things progress. Re: [slim] SlimDevices Squeezebox 2/3 and Sonos ZP80
I'm going with the combination of a fast server (Gentoo on a 2.8Ghz 800FSB P4 w/1GB RAM, no X) and self run ethernet throughout the house. Any of my PCs also get the respect of running strictly Intel or 3COM NICs. So, for all the times I have synced I have never had an issue. Then again, maybe it's just a blessing :) -- notanatheist notanatheist's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2642 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=23490 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
