[slim] Feature request; dedicated remote commands for specific favorites

2007-08-16 Thread bruce

I wish a remote with soft keys, such as my Harmony 890, could send
commands to my Squeezebox to play specific items from my Favorites
menu. For example, one button could play a certain playlist; another
could play a favorite SqueezeNetwork radio station; another could play
my Pandora station.

The user would somehow assign remote commands (PlayFavorite1,
PlayFavorite2, etc.) to specific favorites, either from the Favorites
menu or from the server user interface.

Could this be done as a server plugin? Or would it require a change to
the hardware to understand these new commands?

Needless to say, this feature would be most useful when combined with a
single, integrated Favorites list that includes SlimServer and
SqueezeNetwork items -- which is supposed to happen in 7.0.

You can use the numerical keys on the remote to access your favorites: just
press and hold 1 to get your first favorite.

You can make your Squeezenetwork favorites available on your slimserver
by using the MyPicks plugin and copy/pasting into a MyPicks entry the

Be careful if the new PC has a different version of the OS.

If you are moving from an XP to a Vista system or from one Linux distro

Re: [slim] Scanner Trouble - Zero Artists

2007-08-16 Thread slimpy

I had the same problem after I updated from 6.5.1 to 6.5.3.
Clear & rescan seemed to show a correct tracks, album and artist count.
But it failed to recognize any various artist albums.
Look for new & updated left me with 0 artists.
I ran a full rescan from the command line with a couple of debugging
switches.
It all came down to an mp3 that had "-" set as the artist. Somehow
Slimserver choked and failed. Incidently this was on the second to last
album in the scan process hence the seemingly correct stats after the
scan.
I just changed the tag on the offending file, rescanned and all was
well again.

[slim] SB3 drops out after 12-14 hours

2007-08-16 Thread Lohals

Hi,

Content with my wirelessly connected SB3 and my NAS synology ds107
running slimserver v6.3.1. Bought the system 2 weeks ago.

However, after around 12-14 hours playing the SB3 is unable to perform
normally. It has dropouts when playing music which doesn´t recover
before i do a power cycle (unplug/replug) the SB3.

The problem is consistent whether i connect to the slimserver on my
NAS, on my PC running XP or connect to the squeezenetwork.

I use a static IP for my SB3. I cant find anyone describing the same
problem, and Im considering that it might be a faulty SB3 that need
service.

Please, if anybody have an idea as to what might be the problem here
post a message.
Thank you

Re: [slim] Squeezbox interfe with Synology-NAS goiing idle

2007-08-16 Thread flipflip

There are dozens of threads which discuss this subject. Look for
"SSODS", "hibernation", "standby" and similar (preferrably using google
+ site:...).

The short answer is: it just doesn't standby as long as the SB is
connected for most people. It does for some (they say). There are some
more or less ugly work-arounds (such as swapping to an USB memory stick
or removing certain plugins).

However, this has never been looked at systematically as far as I know.
So we don't know the exact reason for this.

And I personally don't care at all whether the HDD goes standby or not.
So don't expect me to do the research :-)

Regards,
flip

Re: [slim] Playlist, again....

2007-08-16 Thread slimpy

The squeezebox always plays from the default playlist.
When you select an album and press play the default playlist is cleared
and all the songs from the album are added to the empty playlist.
If you press add instead of play your selection is appended to the
default playlist.
The default playlist can be navigated from the SB using the up-down
arrows in the Now Playing menu or can be seen in the web interface.
You can save the current state of the default playlist to a file.
This stores it on disk for later retrieval. Saved playlists show up in
Browse - playlists.
If you press play on a playlist entry the playlist is cleared and all
the referenced tracks in the saved playlist are added to the default
playlist.

Re: [slim] Feature request: more sophisticated xfade

2007-08-16 Thread eeckhoj

Never used the winamp plugin, but sounds like it pretty much does what
I'm looking for on my squeezebox : decent song mixes based on the
volume level of a track outro.

Basically, what I would like is to have the next song start (full
volume, no fade in) when the volume of the previous song drops for the
last time under a certain level (as a safeguard you could only do this
e.g. during the last 10-15 seconds of a song). This would work for the
vast majority of songs I think.

Of course, if it all has to be perfect (most professional radiostation
software works like this), the only solution is to add some tag in each
song with the "mixing point", which you can set by listening to the
outro. You can even go further and specify for each song if and how it
has to be faded out when the next song begins or not, etc. A lot of
work, but I have to admit I would be tempted to do it, if I knew SB
would use these tags ;-)

No news anyone if we can expect either of these solutions as a plugin ?

The MusicMagic plug-in has been and is disabled. I don't use it.

It's interesting that a string value in a tag field could crash the
scanner. Did you file a bug on that? It would be good to do that and
get a copy of the offending file to the engineering team.

I need to do some more logged runs of the incremental scan, but for
now, it looks like the virus scanner was the issue. Not sure why
writing to a temp directory tripped it, but adding the exclusion seemed
to work.

I'll post again once I have more data.

I read a thread about something I needed since I was using Itunes, but
this was maybe when using the "Most Popular" or "Last played" or

Anyway, yes, I can add songs to an existing playlist. "Car 4" extends
with the songs I click "Add" to, but, I then "Save" the new playlist in
SlimServer, and scans the library, and its not there.?
Yes, the SB3 is very awkward for this kind of use, you can spend a lot
of time finding songs and add them to the playlist, so called "party
mode", but its difficult with the remote and that little display. Then
its a lot easier with SlimServer, but then , I am not going to use this
anymore I think

Re: [slim] Playlist, again....

Hi Anne,

I also find that the playlist functions are very confusing. There is no
easy way to create, add, delete, or edit the entries.
Adding a "Tune to URL entry" to an existing playlist is possible, but
the procedure is very awkward.
I am also puzzled to find that adding a new entry to an existing
playlist with a text editor sometimes results in a failure to display
new the entry. (The added content is identical to that of the same
entry in another playlist).
The "Save" button should certainly have a "Save As" option so that the
user can choose the Playlist to which new material are being added.

This is primarily what many of us are looking for, as well. There are
currently three fader options which are for the most part (at least for
me) useless: Fade In, Fade Out, and Crossfade.

What is really needed is what SB does for Crossfade MINUS the Fade In.

I'm sure if the person responsible for the Firmware looked at it they
would find it relatively easy to accomplish. The problem is that this
is one of the few places we cannot touch as the fade control has been
moved into the device's firmware.

I hope, at the very least, they will add this 4th option. It is what
most people who are interested in Crossfade are really looking for...
the current song fades out for a few seconds as the next song starts at
full volume. The current Crossfade does this EXCEPT it starts the new
song at zero volume and fades in. Who wants that?

Slim Firmware Guru...
PLEASE add this fourth option!!! PLEASE take a look... I'm sure you'll
see it's no big deal and it will make so many of us happy!

There are lots of other cool things that could be done with crossfade,
but they are significantly more challenging and probably too big to add
to the devices. Hopefully they will follow at a later time or give us
more control outside of the SB.

Fingers crossed,
David

Re: [slim] Playlist, again....

2007-08-16 Thread erland

If you like to manage your playlists with SB3/SlimServer, you should
really look at some third party plugins/applications. Some of them are
mentioned below.

PLAYLIST MANAGER PLUGIN:
http://www.hergest.demon.co.uk/Music/slim/PlaylistManPlugin.htm
Makes it possible to add songs from the currently playing playlist to
other playlists. When holding down the Add button in the "Now Playing"
menu you will get a menu where you can choose between some different
playlists that the track can be added to.

SLIMFX SKIN:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32422
A SlimServer skin that supports to change playlists with drag and drop
from the web interface.

SQL PLAYLIST PLUGIN[/B] (ALSO REQUIRES DYNAMIC PLAYLIST PLUGIN):
PLUGIN FOR MAKING SMART PLAYLISTS WITH SLIMSERVER, FOR EXAMPLE \"TOP
RATED TRACKS\". IF YOU WANT TO MAKE SMART PLAYLISTS I WOULD ALSO
RECOMMEND THAT YOU INSTALL THE TRACKSTAT PLUGIN WHICH MAKES SURE YOUR
STATISTICS ISN'T CLEARED AT EVERY SLIMSERVER RESCAN.

[B]MUSICMAGIC PLUGIN:
Included with SlimServer, implements an integration with the MusicIP
application and can generate playlists based on acoustic audio analysis
of similar songs. Requires MusicIP to also be installed:
http://www.musicip.com

ITUNES PARTY SHUFFLE PLUGIN:
http://www.jamescraig.co.uk/SlimServer/index.html
Makes it possible to launch a Party Shuffle playlist from SlimServer.
You need iTunes installed for this plugin to work.

Re: [slim] 20% of all Logitech products (may be UK only)

2007-08-16 Thread westiebj

When I read this I was hoping it was Logitech coming to their senses and
allowing Europe to buy the slim products at comparable prices to the
USA, but it seems it was a glitch ?
If you try to add the Transporter to the shopping basket you can only
choose colour, not buy.

Oh well

Easy to do with Erland's SqlPlayList. (And sooo much more.)

Get TrackStat, SQLPlaylist and DynamicPlaylist from Erland's site:

Very highly recommended.

[slim] ZAP and CLI

2007-08-16 Thread barrygordon

I have searched the threads on information on zapped, digested it all
and am still confused. Help appreciated.

I send a ZAP command over the CLI interface. SlimServer places a
refrence to the zapped song into the zapped playlist and then deletes
the zapped song from the curent now playing list. It is that last part
that confuses me. I thought it just placed it into the zapped playlist
so you could use the zapped playlist as a holder of songs you needed to
review etc without them being removed from the current playlist.

is there an option to do what I want (not remove the zapped song from
the playlist) or is the behvior fixed as I have observed it.

reply appreciated.

Am I right in thinking that a silver SB must be a version 2? Or were the

There were colors on the SB1.
Custom sprayed by some autobody dude.

Telling a SB1 from SB2 is harder than telling a SB3 from the earlier ones.

I have audio engines and have heard this screech. At first i thought it

three seconds - and then the other day my audio engines screeched
whilst attached to my rega planet cd player even though the volume was

Howdy,

SB1 was available in 4 colors for a while... SB2 was available in
black and silver as well. Best way to tell is to look at the label on
the bottom. SB1 says, "Model: Squeezebox". SB2 says, "Model:
Squeezebox2"...

I actually use the XM plugin on my slimserver -- but I have gotten to
the point where I primarily use Squeezenetwork (love having no machines
on - and with rhapsody and mp3tunes- I am set). I love having everything
all together. So i guess I should rephrase and say "would love it on SN"
