Re: [slim] Is my Squeezebox 3 dead?
Hi Adrian, Exactly the same happened with me yesterday. The unit is still dead. I have logged this with support via this site, and the team is responsive. It looks like I have to bring it in though. It is strange, because I just have it 2 years (almost to the day) without any problems. I think it may be related with the wheather we have been having lately here in Sydney. Lots of rain and thunderstorms. I noticed that my router locked up, and I had to reset it to factory settings to get it working again... Best of luck with your Squeezebox. [slim] Squeezebox died this morning 6 weeks old
While I was listening to my SB3 this morning mine when listen. The wireless streaming tests fine all the way up to 5k at over 50% and at 2K 100% so it appears that the network is still sending packets. What appears not to be working is my out using the SB3 headphone jack or my optical to dac. The playing now screensaver with the small analog meters tells me the file being streamed but the analog meters are dead; i.e., don't move while streaming. Any ideals? I have emailed tech support and have yet to get a response. FYI, my unit has always been fairly warm to the touch (not hot) while turned on. Is this normal. dizzie;249959 Wrote: bflatmajor and maggior, Thanks for the help on router firmware updating. I did it and the router worked first try. I am glad I removed that possible problem but I don't think that is the main issue. I shut my modem off last night and took the router out of the loop. This morning I started the modem and then the computer and still could not connect until I did multiple tries. No router to blame. Now I have the router back in, and everything is working fine but that is just a temporary until tomorrow when the madness starts all over again. Is there something (like scheduled software maintenance) that the computer is doing at night that messes up something? I don't see how since the power is completely shut off at my surge protector. If you are using a router connected to the modem, that means that the modem is operating in bridge mode and your router is handling the PPPoE protocol, which includes your user name and password for your account. To connect the modem directly to your PC, you need to take the modem out of bridge mode and set up the PPPoE parameters. Or, on the PC you have to create a new network connection (connectoid?) for PPPoE. I only did this once and I was walked through it by a Verizon tech on the phone. In short, it makes sense that connecting your PC directly to your modem did not work - it's not a sign of other issues. If you PC is powered off, then certainly there is no scheduled routines that are running (e.g. virus scans, etc.). -- maggior maggior's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9080 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=4 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] SB3 on Amazon for 31% Off
Hi, Just curious what the community thinks about this. It's misleading is it not? It's 31% off a false List Price of $399 for $274.50. As a long-time user, contributor and supporter since the original Squeezebox seeing things like this is upsetting. This community was built on good faith. Slim Devices / Squeezebox is one of the great stories of successful products from word of mouth fueled by the internet. The last thing a consumer needs is to be misled. These products are easily tackled by power users but general consumers might have to spend some time to get things configured right. I guess I've seen it once too many times walking into a Magnolia AV store to see a sales rep talk a customer out of Squeezebox into Sonos. Clearly they are not familiar with the product and would rather sell the more expensive Sonos. Doesn't help when they blatantly lie, either purposely or out of ignorance, that Squeezebox can't do things that it can. To me, it's kind of like Apple selling in retail computer chain stores all over again with sales reps pushing PC. Finally Apple took matters into their own retail stores... and very successfully. This is no need for the many misconceptions and misinformation fostered by sales reps that are not properly trained or care not to sell what I feel is a superior product (Squeezebox). I'm not sure what training Logitech has given the sales channel, but personally I'd like to see Slim Devices win every sale over Sonos. Been a while since I've seen anyone comment on the Logitech acquisition. So just curious... Is there anything the community here can do to help combat these issues or am I the only one that recognizes these challenges? +---+ |Filename: amazonsb3a.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3892| +---+ -- darwinl darwinl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2603 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41227 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Suddenly Loses Connection
I've been using my SB3 on Vista for about 6 months now with awesome success and pleasure using SlimServer Version: 6.5.3 - 12376 - Windows Vista - EN - cp1252. It has run flawlessly until recently. About the only thing that I changed around the time my problem started was I added a Maxtor one touch back up drive and it runs once a week. I don't see any correlation though. The problem is that my SB keeps going blank (front screen is all black) and I have to go through a repetitive process of rebooting computer, unplugging Linksys WRT54G, and unplugging SB before it suddenly comes back to life and it usually takes multiple tries. Then it works fine for the couple hours I listen to it everynight. By morning the front screen is blank again. When I press the power button it says waking up slimserver but then goes blank again. This problem is causing me to want to see how far I can chuck it down the street. I don't want to spend 15 minutes unplugging and rebooting the system multiple times everytime I want to listen! I have a wireless laptop that has absolutely no problems working at any time so I think my wi-fi is good. I also checked for other signals and there are two other very week signals that are one or two bars whereas mine has excellent signal strength. There is only about 15' and one wall separating the SB and linksys. The slimserver icon in the tool bar tray always boots but says the SB isn't connected when I'm having the problem. When the SB is blank and I unplug the linksys it notices the connection loss. They're mainly designed to keep _you_ from having an infected zombie machine that goes out and tries to infect other machines on the Ineternet. Very altruistic, but unless you're in the habbit of letting your machines get compromised through stupid behavior, why ever would you think you needed to run such software? If you're allowing the machine to be accessed from the outside, then a good hardware firewall in front of the machine will do all the port filtering that you could ever want. -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41183 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] SqueezeCenter issues running on Vista
With a bit of fiddling about I have now got SC7 to work on Vista. Firstly tried running the program as administrator but no joy (my own user has full admin rights though). Then instead of selecting 'run as current user' I tried running as named user and selected admin. Started to work then. Only slight issue is on reboot when it whinges about not being able to run the application but if you select it manually it is fine. Other than that it looks pretty good, I'm impressed! Enhancement request - maybe to save all and transport all setting from a previous Slimserver install over or at least make a copy of everything. -- heyho heyho's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8157 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41158 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
