Better still would be to have it as a user configurable option.

Please update to the latest nightly build. There are a lot of fixes in regard
to non-latin character handling.

Also: are you using iTunes integration with SC on the ReadyNAS?

Would you mind uploading your server.prefs, plugin/itunes.prefs and
plugin/state.prefs files? This shouldn't happen - and I've never seen it happen
neither.

You could give Prism a try - it's basically a FF wrapper which makes a web page
look like an app.
http://labs.mozilla.com/2007/10/prism/

This way you would continue using your preferred browser while having the
advantage of running SC in an improved environment.

Make sure none of these whacky lists is still inside the folder you're still
using. SC will follow playlists and shortcuts inside the defined music folder.
It will _not_ search anywhere else unless lead there by your files.

Re: [slim] Wi-Fi Internet Clock Radio?

2008-04-30 Thread appeal2

I have an SB with Audioengine 5's. I loaded the extended alarm plugin
which allows an unlimited number of alarms per day, per week, etc. And
it uses the SB remote numbers as a 10 minute snooze bar. Draw backs,
network errors lead to no wake up and sometimes the radio streams go
dead for no reason.
Works about 95 percent of the time but I am going to check out the

Re: [slim] New Wiki Open for Editing!

2008-04-30 Thread erland

If someone at Logitech sees this, it would be great if the old wiki
content could be available somewhere a bit longer. It's sometimes good
to be able to look at the previous wiki page when you are correcting
the page in the MediaWiki, especially when you are correcting links
that have gone bad in the conversion.

Earlier the old wiki was available at wiki.slimdevices.com and the new
at mwiki.slimdevices.com, but sometime during the last days this
changed so both points to the new wiki. Is there some way we can get
access to the old kwiki content ?

slimpy, i never doubted you, i just wouldn't know if you are correct.
iow's, i can't confirm you are correct, but based on your last post,
you certainly seem to be.

Richard, would you agree?

if so, i think a bug report should be filed with the idea being that
the SBC should realize if the update is simply different, OR newer.
different would essentially denote older.

whats confusing is that the mismatch just assumes newer when in fact,
thats not the case.

its also good to know that the nightlies link is not where the SBC gets
its updates. however, i think an enh request would be good to enable a
"beta" fw update if you wanted, so users like me could just get it over
wifi instead of via SD card.

[slim] fwd/rwd and hold

2008-04-30 Thread Millwood

I'm probably in the minority on this but -

I (almost) never want to skip to the beginning of the next track, or
back to the beginning of this track. I often want to move forward or
back in the current track.

So I've made a custom.map and hacked SlimBrowserApplet.lua (SB3 and
Jive) to reverse the sense of -hold.

In my version, pressing fwd immediately brings up the scanner. I'd
have to hold to skip fwd or back to the track start.

Point of the posting is the slim chance that I'm in fact in the
majority on this.

Unfortunately, I can't. The firewall at the hospital blocks one of the
necessary ports for that. In fact, that's one of the reasons I use SC
remote streaming - I've set it up on port 80 of my machine at home, so
I can get to it through the hospital firewall. In this way, I was
hoping to be able to stream Shoutcast stations that are not natively on
port 80 (which is a lot of them).

As for other details:

What os is SC is running on? XP Pro SP2

What format streams are you playing? They're mostly stations available
via Shoutcast (Folk Alley, Radio Paradise) and Radio Margaritaville as
well as Whisperings (solopianoradio.com). I believe they're all mp3
streams

Have you enabled bit rate limiting? Yes. I'm limiting to 64kbps

Have you installed lame? Yes

Thanks for the replies, guys.

[slim] Problem with ID3 tags in one song

2008-04-30 Thread bbaraniec

Hey,

I'm really desperated :P I have done everything I could but I can't
handle it alone I hope some here will be able to find solution for me.
So there story is:

Im running SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 17844 - Netgear RAIDiator - EN
- utf8 on ReadyNas NV+
Today I have added a new album which containst 14 songs. I have edited
all tags in iTunes. 13 songs have been added without any problems. One
of them (track nr. 5) is still shown as No Artist, No Album.

I checked few times in Windows explorer and in iTunes if the tag is
really correct and it is.
When I play this file in WM11 it shows all info such as artist, title,
etc, even cover but in SC none.

I did few rescans even full ones. My library is small it has only 2100
files. I don't have any addons installed. The file does not contains
any special letters.

Some Screenshots:

http://img87.imageshack.us/my.php?image=itunesviewaq7.jpg
http://img87.imageshack.us/my.php?image=scviewpw3.jpg

Windows explorer and iTunes are both polish but you should see that all
informations are correct.

I have no idea what is wrong, hope someone will help me with this :)

Indeed it does, the error is occurring on the server. The question is
what it is about you/your setup which is triggering it when everyone
else seems to be OK. Maybe if you posted here the exact time you tried
and got the error, someone @ logi could take a look at the server logs?
That's the quickest way to figure out what's up.

As another datapoint, it's working here from FF on Leopard.

Re: [slim] Playing cd's

2008-04-30 Thread bpa

Sounds promising - I presume this is with the script and the diskutil
command before cdda2wav.

A few times I've started a track playing, it plays a few secs of audio,
pauses and then continues - I put this down to the getting audio from
the CD. It only happens rarely and I've put it down to the fact
cdda2wav is being used to get data in realtimewhich is not its main
purpose and there is some sort of buffer mismatch.

Some tuning of parameters may be helpful once it is proved there is a
reliable way of playing a track.

I was going to report partial success only.

But you mentioned a SoftSqueeze issue, and it looks as though this had

Tried playing the track, and the buffering moved up to 12% when it got
no further.

Started the track again and IT PLAYED!

A touch ragged at the start, but this may well be SoftSqueeze.

I'll try with my Squeezebox in the morning.

Re: [slim] Playing cd's

2008-04-30 Thread bpa

Good & bad news.

1. The extra dash has gone
2. The change you made has an error which I think resulted in the error
message (but it indicates it is the conf file in use)

Code:

  -S 4-gui --output-format raw -gui

There are two "-gui" but more important there is no space between the 4
and the "-gui". There should be a space. This gives the error from the
log.

Code:

  /usr/local/bin/cdda2wavreal: Bad Option: -S.

Regarding Softsqueeze - I'm a bit suspicious of it at the moment given
that people have reported this Play/stop/play to get a track going.

Add a space after the "4" and get rid of one of the "-gui" and try
again.

[slim] Squeezecenter setup issues and some impressions

2008-04-30 Thread Simonfish

I just "upgraded" to Squeezecenter 7.0.1 from 6.5.whatever I had before.

While I run iTunes on my machine, it's there purely to manage content
for my iPod. My main music library is all WMA Lossless, and iTunes has
a partial copy in a much lower-fidelity form. When I installed
Squeezecenter, I made sure the "Use iTunes library" option was
unchecked. And yet ... once Squeezecenter had finished scanning my
library, it went off and scanned my iTunes library too. So I checked
my settings, and the "use iTunes" option was still unchecked. Huh?

Next, I started looking around the new UI. While it's pretty, it is
DOG slow, at least on IE 7.0. Since I know how much the webbies I work
with prefer developing in Firefox, I tested using FF and sure enough,
Squeezecenter felt much snappier. Yes, everyone loves to hate IE and
Microsoft, but personally, I prefer IE's UI to Firefox. Please don't
make me run a different browser just to use my music player.

Lastly, I took a look at the scanner logs. Imagine my surprise when I
noticed that, despite my being very specific about where to look for
playlists and music, Squeezecenter had gone off and scanned all sorts
of other locations on my system, so all sorts of whacky playlists
created by apps I've used in the past like iPodder suddenly show up in
Squeezecenter. So now I have to go and remove them manually, when I
didn't ask for them to be added in the first place.

Overall, not very impressive.

Nope, and I just tried it from a 3rd computer almost completely
unrelated to the first two. First two are work-issued laptops. The

Only thing they share is the same router/modem. The Duet is playing

OK, just back from trying it on my husband's laptop which is on a

All 4 have IE6 with XP.

You really shouldn't have ID3 tags in flac files, the only appropriate
ones are vorbis. mp3tag fully supports vorbis files and writes them
automatically to flac files.

Re: [slim] No Web Access for SqueezeCenter on Mac

2008-04-30 Thread Sune

Hi again,

Followed the instructions on page 3 in this thread:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45486&highlight=mouth&page=3

BUT I just moved my "SqueeseCenter" folder found in "application
support" instead of deleting it.

Then I

* downloaded the latest official release, got it installed, verified
that the server started as expected.
* Stopped it and updated it to latest nightly release and verified that
the server started as expected.
* Stopped it, replaced the new "SqueezeCenter" folder in Application
Support with the original one
* Restarted the server - NO SUCCES!
* Restarted the server again - SUCCES! Now all plugins and prefs seems
to back to what they were before

I did not reboot my Mac during the process.

Conclusion: It's probably the Cache giving Mac-users a headache.
Possible cause: Inproper shutdown of Mac (e.g. Power Failure)
Possible solution: Having a script that trashes the SqueezeCenter cache
at startup

Will now start checking up that everything works..AND add my
SqueezeCenter folder to my backup list :-)

Hope for a permanent fix for this problem soon.

/Sune

P.S. As for the FireWall suggestions - they cause trouble, if it
doesn't solve the problem immediately and you forget about it. I
forgot, and then by SB could not see the Macuntill I went back in
and selected "Allow incoming connections" for Perl (no, the system
never asked me during server startup)...and then just selected the
"allow all incoming connections" again, which was where I startedI
do not allow traffic from the outside on my router anyway.

Re: [slim] SB3 Display Dead. What now?

2008-04-30 Thread kdf

If you simply unplug the SB3, your settings will survive. You can
unplug, crack it open and remove the wireless card that way. If that
works, you'll see the Logitech logo when you power up and you will have
time to enter the network settings before it tries to use the existing
setup.

Just out of curiosity, you did mention trying the brightness button on
the remote, but did you check the brightness setting in the web UI in
case that says 0, or are you able to get other reactions from the
player using the remote? It's always possible that the batteries have
gone, thus no reaction to the brightness button.

Sorry to have not been able to tell you what you wanted to hear. The data
is the data. If you ask for songs ordered by the track number of the
album and the database server gives you the tracks in alphabetical only,
that's what you have.

It's a good and valid answer. I'll be glad, however, to refrain from

I have 'scheduled rescan' switched off yet as soon as I boot-up or

takes hours. Whilst Squeeze Centre is scanning it is nearly impossible

without switching Squeeze Centre off?

This is only happening since I started using v7.0.

There is no official tool to setup an SBR without the controller. (the

There is not possible to switch the SBR towards SqueezeNetwork without
the Controller.

If these are sold separetely a lot off people will try to use a SBR

All things regarding this is probably not figured out yet.

Second that - I bought a Duet immediately, but am getting annoyed by

The software should play the songs on a CD in the original order as it
did in 6.5.4 or any other release I've ever had loaded. Saying that I
should look for MYSQL in a release that is not available is worse than
no answer. This software release is a huge PITA. I can't recommend

True. I have an iRiver H140 that I bought in early 2004. It plays FLAC
files without problems with the free Rockbox firmware, so it can't be
that hard. Truth is, Apple doesn't like open standards, just like MS.

What os is SC is running on ?
What format streams are you playing ? Give examples
Have you enabled bit rate limiting ?
Have you installed lame ?

I vaguely remember that there are limitations to the use of stream.mp3

and whether bit rate limiting is active.

Re: [slim] Vista or Trend Micro Firewall Blocking Squeezecenter

2008-04-30 Thread aweitzner

I had the same problem. I bought a new PC from Dell to act as a media
server. It too came with Trend Micro PC Cillin. It was not a
SqueezeCenter issue, per se since I could not ping the SqueezeCenter
machine from another PC with PC Cillin enabled. I turned off PC Cillin
and all worked fine (as I had no plans to use Trends Micro after the
trial ran out anyway). Sorry to say this is not a real answer as I did
not spend any time debugging PC Cillin's options. I am not sure why an
anti-virus program would block IP internet traffic

I switched to the free dowload of Norton Anti-Virus in GooglePack but
that only runs on-demand unless you pay Norton a yearly fee.

Yes - the conf file provides templates for command to be executed by
SC. The "$FILE$" string is replaced by the name of the file/url to be
played before trying to execute the command - in this case something
like "dev=IODVDServices -track 2".

In the original conf file the line looked like "output-endianess=little
--quiet $FILE$ -" and I asked to remove the "--quiet" so that the error
message from cdda2wav could be displayed.

cdda2wav expects an output file name to be the last item on the
command. If a "-" is provided then cdda2wav thinks stdout is output.
Our problem is the extra "-" is before the "dev=" which specifies which
CDROM drive to use and so cdda2wav doesn't "see" the device
specification and so it complains about missing drive etc.

I'm worried that conf file might have a funny character sequence such
as
'L', 'I', 'T', 'T', 'L', 'E', space, space, dash, backspace, space
which would mean that the dash is not "seen" when a file is displayed
on a screen yet it is in the file.

There is no rush in testing - I'm just finishing up beta2 of CDplayer.

I had an SB3 that appeared to be dead like you describe. When I sent it
to SD for a repair, they discovered that the fault was with the wireless
card. So, if you expect that your warranty has expired, you might try
opening the unit up and removing the wireless card and seeing if the
display comes back. Stranger things have happened. I think you'll
need a torx T10 screwdriver or tip for this. I just tried this with
one of my own SB3s, to no apparent ill effect. It's an easy diagnostic
step, anyway.

Re: [slim] Playing cd's

2008-04-30 Thread bpa

It's definitely in a custom-convert.conf file - from you post #84 - in
the log where the matching rule is found - this is before any of my
code changes it.

Code:

  [08-04-30 09:28:10.6245] Slim::Player::TranscodingHelper::getConvertCommand
(302) Matched Format: flc Type: cdplay Command: [cdda2wav] -S 4 --output-format
raw -gui output-endianess=little - $FILE$ - | [flac] -cs --totally-silent
--endian=little --channels=2 --sign=signed --bps=16 --sample-rate=44100
--compression-level-0 -

To confirm CDplayer is using the custom-convert.conf file - I suggest
changing some of the files text and do another log.

for example. Change

Code:

  cdplay flc * *
  [cdda2wav] -S 4 --output-format raw -gui output-endianess=little $FILE$ - |
[flac] -cs --totally-silent --endian=little --channels=2 --sign=signed --bps=16
--sample-rate=44100 --compression-level-0 -

to

Code:

  cdplay flc * *
  [cdda2wav] -S 4 -gui --output-format raw output-endianess=little $FILE$ - |
[flac] -cs --totally-silent --endian=little --channels=2 --sign=signed --bps=16
--sample-rate=44100 --compression-level-0 -

If the change is not in the log file - then there is a hidden conf
file. If the change is in the log - check for the extra "-". This
change needs a restart of SC.

I've tried and tried to modify the PowerCtrl plugin to allow standby or

revisit this sometime soon. Absent that, if your bios supports rtc
(real-time clock) wake-up, program the bios to wake the server at a
pre-determined time, say 5:30 am. You could then use the PowerCtrl
plugin to shut down the server via the SB's remote in the evening.
This is the setup I'm using.

Re: [slim] Playing cd's

2008-04-30 Thread bpa

Looking back at previous logs
The following has "--quiet" and no extra "-" - it makes me think the
issue is still in the conf file. However the remainder of the log
still showed that the device problem seemed to be presetn so the script
with unmount may still be necessary.

Code:

  [08-04-26 22:19:54.5235] Plugins::CDplayer::CDPLAY::new (107) About to
execute: '"/usr/local/bin/cdda2wav" -S 4 --output-format raw -gui
output-endianess=little --quiet dev=IODVDServices -track 1 - |
"/Users/danco/Library/PreferencePanes/SqueezeCenter.prefPane/Contents/server/Bin/darwin/flac"
 -cs --totally-silent --endian=little --channels=2 --sign=signed --bps=16
--sample-rate=44100 --compression-level-0 -'

I'd still like to find the source of this stray "-" as it may be
confusing things.
When SC is starting - I think SC reads all the custom-convert.conf
files it can find in any subdirectory of server/Plugins and
server/Slim/Plugin. So if you have a backup of CDplayer's
custom-convert.conf somewhere in the Plugins tree - SC could be reading
that - and in the case of more than one set of rules for "cdplay", the
last set of rules for "cdplay" processed will be the ones that are
used.

Can you check for other copies of custom-convert.conf which have cdplay
rules.

If you mean logged onto the Vista box, no. There currently are no
non-privileged users. It's a new machine bought to run a drobo and
squeezecenter. It's not doing much else right now though it may do more
in the future.

The last time I needed to restart the computer I tried using the tray
icon to stop squeezecenter and for the first time, it worked. I'll be
keeping an eye on it.

I have the squeezebox connected and configured to use ethernet now and
it seems to be remaining connected better.

Thank you for your help.

Re: [slim] Playing cd's

2008-04-30 Thread bpa

Your log file shows the following - I have highlighted the dash in bold
red. It will be after "little" and before $FILE$ in the conf file.

Code:

  [08-04-30 09:28:10.6441] Plugins::CDplayer::CDPLAY::new (107) About to
execute: '"/Users/danco/Library/Application
Support/SqueezeCenter/Plugins/CDplayer/Bin/cdda2wav" -S 4 --output-format raw
-gui output-endianess=little *-* dev=IODVDServices -track 1 - |
"/Users/danco/Library/PreferencePanes/SqueezeCenter.prefPane/Contents/server/Bin/darwin/flac"
 -cs --totally-silent --endian=little --channels=2 --sign=signed --bps=16
--sample-rate=44100 --compression-level-0 -'

If it is not in the custom-convert.conf file - then I apologise it must
be in the OSX section of code. In my file - CDPLAY.pm the line of code
would be

Code:

} elsif (Slim::Utils::OSDetect::OS() eq 'mac') {
$command =~ s|\"cdplay://(\d+)\"|  dev=$cddevice -track $1|;

I don't have an extra "-" in the source code. What about on your system
?

Peter, nice one, thanks. Don't know why I thought it wouldn't go
backwards (old Roku issue, perhaps). Nevertheless, my point still
stands, as getting to the middle of the alphabet can be tedious:-)

Re: [slim] Playing cd's

2008-04-30 Thread danco

I will see what happens with your new version of the code.

I looked at my version of custom-convert.conf, and it reads

#
# cdd2wav Linux/ OSX verson
#
cdplay wav * *
[cdda2wav] -S 4 --output-format raw -gui output-endianess=little
$FILE$

cdplay mp3 * *
[cdda2wav] -S 4 --output-format raw -gui output-endianess=little
$FILE$ - | [lame] --silent -r -x -q $QUALITY$ -b $BITRATE$ - -

cdplay flc * *
[cdda2wav] -S 4 --output-format raw -gui output-endianess=little
$FILE$ - | [flac] -cs --totally-silent --endian=little --channels=2
--sign=signed --bps=16 --sample-rate=44100 --compression-level-0 -

Should the dash after $FILES$ be there? Or is there something more
seriously wrong with my custom-convert.conf?

I tried, in case this dash was the problem, disabling the mp3 and flac
formats in the File Types setting for CDplayer, but that did not help.

I downloaded and installed 7.0.1-19242, this seems to have sorted my
problem,
I now see the line "Add To Favorites" in the track details list.

Many thanks guys

Re: [slim] Playing cd's

2008-04-30 Thread bpa

I just tested my version of script - with the added "-" and I get the
same error as you do.

The problem is the additional dash - I mentioned this in post #66 but
you seem to have missed it.

*Get rid of the erroneous dash in custom-convert.conf*

[slim] Rescan New/Changed: Don't remove offline music entries

2008-04-30 Thread peted

Hi

I have a number of remote networked music folders pointed to by
shortcuts. The machines in question are not necessarily on line when
the auto rescan is performed, causing SC to remove said entries from
the database.

Can SC be made (optionally) to keep any entries referring to missing
music files on the assumption that they are only missing temporarily?
During rescan New/Changed mode only.

This would avoid unnecessary rescans and music going AWOL.

A worthwhile change I think.

Cheers

Pete

Re: [slim] Playing cd's

2008-04-30 Thread bpa

Can you double check the custom-convert.conf file - I can't be sure but
it looks like a a dash (aka "-") has been inserted) between "little" and
"dev=".
>
> output-endianess=little *-* dev=IODVDServices
>

Perhaps left over from removing "--quiet". This may be causing the
device problem - in which case the script is not necessary. To
check.

1. Remove "-"
2. rename cdda2wavreal back to cdda2wav
3. rename CDplayer/Bin/cdda2wav to cdd2wavscript (anything will do
just not cdda2wav)
4. REstart SC and test

If dash was not present or If above doesn't work then rename everything
back again to get the script working and modify script to get more
info.

I suggest the following to (i) verify the command and (ii)

Code:

  #!/bin/sh
  app=cdda2wavreal

  if [ -x /usr/local/bin/$app ] ; then
  app=/usr/local/bin/$app
  fi
  echo "cdda2wav script running " 1>&2
  echo "command: $* "1>&2

  # Next line is only a guess - needs to be edited but redirection of stdout
(1) is essential
  diskutil unmount /dev/disk1 1>&2
  diskutil info /dev/disk1 1>&2
  "$app" $*

[slim] SB3 Display Dead. What now?

2008-04-30 Thread pulp_136

After about 22 months the SB3 display is dead. Apart from that, the
device is completely functional through the web interface or the cli. I
tried the Brightness button, it didn't help. Since I still use it every
day, sending it for repair is not that simple.

1. If I reset the unit, will I be able to reconfigure it (give an
IPAdress etc.), through the web interface or any other way with the
display blank?

2. I was about to open the case to check the display contacts. But then
I read in an other thread that these contacts are fixed and so not
likely to be loose. I also wanted to disable the wireless card (I only
use LAN), but I found no indication that it can bring the display
back.

I'm afraid of a reset that will not allow me to reconfigure. Anyone had
a similar situation (workable unit with a bad display)? Is it worth to
try to fix it myself?

thanks in advance
pulp

Hi ScrotzaN

Open up Squeezecenter and Click on Settings.

Select Players

Select The player you have attached to your JVC Amp

In the right Dropdown Menu select "Remote" and uncheck jvc_dvd

This setting is in there because the really old slimp3's used a Sony
remote using JVC commands.

squeezebox since I want to have it at max all the time and only control
the volume with the JVC remote?
