Re: [slim] MusicIP Rocks!
Here's a first cut at a windows script Code: setlocal set key=1234567890abcdef1234567890abcdef set cache="C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_NAME\Application Data\MusicIP\MusicIP Mixer\default.m3lib" set musicdir="D:\MUSIC" "%~dp0genpuid.exe" %key% -m3lib=%cache% -archive -r %musicdir% endlocal save as a .bat or .cmd file in the same directory as genpuid.exe. I've tried it, it works - but I don't see any reduction in the time taken for MusicIP Import. I ran the script above, then the musicIP refresh, then reload cache, then "look for new and changed music" in SC. Or should I have not run refresh? Re: [slim] When Duet controller can support Chinese Characters ??
Thanks to all for the tips. I didn't realize one could replace the fonts in the Duet controller and was despairing of getting CJK characters rendered correctly. Here are some specific tips for Japanese font support: 1. This issue was recently discussed on the 2chan BBS (http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:iWsq2PKA6ooJ:hobby11.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/pav/1165508841/935-970) and the Arisaka (modified Mac font for Win) and Meiryo (MS Cleartype font) were recommended. 2. Fonts that do not work are IPA, SH-G30, and MSGothic/GothicP. 3. Info about the suggested fonts, with sample images and links, is here: http://smart-pda.net/useful7+index.id+5.htm I tested the Arisaka family and it looks good, with decent spacing, but it is a bit thin looking. This is especially so for Latin text. Everything is readable, but it lacks the familiar weight of the FreeSans font. Two questions: 1. Is the Arialuni.ttf mentioned previously just a catch-all font that includes support for characters in all CJK languages? 2. This method worked for displaying artist and album names in Japanese, but I prefer to browse through the Music Library>Music Folder. Many of my directory names are in Japanese, but these are not rendered properly. I wondered why, and looked in the SqueezeCenter web interface, only to find that they aren't being detected _there_, either. Is this a limitation I don't know about? I thought that the SC software should have no trouble detecting CJK filenames server-side. [slim] Bug 4770, who cares anyway?
Please let me share my state of mind about bug 4770 (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4770) with you: I am not amused. This is an advertized feature, and the main reason why I bought my Squeezebox, but it never worked. I was confident that I would be fixed soon, but it is more than a year now, and it keeps being shoved to a later target. If this piece of code cannot be fixed, then rewrite it from scratch, it should not take you too long, if you really wanted to solve the problem. You may think I have no reason to be upset. But I have lost patience, along with any hope that this documented, reproductible, acknowledged problem will ever be solved. [slim] Duet Remote Cover
Apologies if this is a dup. thread, but a cursory search didn't find this topic... I just got my squeezebox duet for Father's Day, and I freakin' LOVE IT! Setup was a breeze. I bought a range extender for my Linksys WiFi on e-bay, because I have several sets of outdoor speakers on my system and I want to use my remote at the pool--I know: what a country! But, at $300 for a replacement, I'm hoping to find a protective pouch/sleeve/jacket/cover thingy for the remote--similar to what is available for MP3 players, etc. Couldn't find one from slimdevices on their website, and was wondering if anyone knows A) if they're planning one, and B) if there is a 3rd party one available. Waterproof would be too good to be true (we do a lot of drinking at the pool), but even a bit of protection from splashes, drink spills, short drops would be good. (I have played with swapping them around and used netstumbler to measure the signal.) Also, with the third party firmware you can pump up the transmit power and increase the range beyond that of the others. Hello Patrick, I use my "pause button" as a Mute. In your example does hitting pause cause the stream to start over or continue from the point of the Pause? I have just always used the "Pause" button as a Mute button. I listen to mostly local files and some Radio IO. With local files the stream stops with Pause so the audio is muted completely because nothing is playing. Hit Pause again and the music continues from where it stopped. -- iPhone *iPhone* 'Last.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/mephone) Media Room: Transporter, VTL TL-6.5 Signature Pre-Amp, Ayre MX-R Mono Blocks, Vandersteen Quatro, VeraStarr 6.4SE 6-channel Amp, VCC-5 Reference Center, four VSM-1 Signatures, Runco RS 900 CineWide AutoScope 2.35:1 Living Room: Duet, ADCOM GTP-870HD, Cinepro 3K6SE III Gold, Vandersteen Model 3A Signature, Two 2Wq subs, VCC-2, Two VSM-1 Bedroom: SB3, NAD C370, Thiel 2.3 Home Office: SB3, Parasound Vamp v.3, VSM-1 Sigs Mobile: SB3, Audioengine A5 iPhone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=14921 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

My main ripper is dBpowerAmp (switched from EAC). Its tagging has been spot on 96% of the time. Out of the other 4%, 99.95% of that was cover by using the Alt M function and checking what the other search programs found. Another nice feature if you have an All-in-One printer or scanner is the ability to scan the cover art into the rip. I have used this feature 4 times. I had a concern about quality using the sacn and there is barely any difference between what gets pulled down vs a scan (checked several CDs against AMG and a local scan). Re: [slim] Controller vs. Remote
Aubuti, I thought that my estimate of 6 hours was hyperbole, well maybe just a bit :) As far as the browsing is concerned, unlike you I have a rather large collection (5,000+ albums) and it is a complete pain in the ass to browse with the Controller although it is still light years ahead of trying to do a search using the Controller. The thing is that I usually use "search" to select the music I want to listen to. So I guess for the time being I'll just have to place my SBs and Transporter so that their displays are easy to read and they are within IR range of the remote. I'll also have a look at the "Custom Browse" plugin. Thanks for the heads up. -- ralphpnj Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels -> Snatch -> The Transporter -> Transporter 2 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/jazzfann/) ralphpnj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10827 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=49053 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Controller vs. Remote
agreed that search on the Controller is clumsy, although my estimates are several orders of magnitude better than your 6 hour hyperbole (~15 sec on SBC vs. ~2 sec on IR remote). Browsing hasn't been a problem for me since they implemented the acceleration, but maybe that's because my library isn't all that large (340 albums and 200 artists). You might find Erland's "Custom Browse" plugin useful. I haven't used it, but I understand you can set a top level menu of [A-C] [D-F] [G-I] etc. and then drill down from there. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=49053 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

For V5 hardware and newer it's a two step process, replace the VxWorks image with a new boot loader and then use that to flash the dd-wrt image. You can even reload the original firmware on it. [slim] Controller vs. Remote
In the love fest which has surrounded the release of the Duet Controller one thing seems to have been forgotten: the Controller's search function is just about completely useless. It takes about 6 hours (+/- 2 hours) to search for a single item: first one uses the scroll wheel to locate the first letter, then it's back to the scroll wheel for the second letter and so on until, after what seems like an eternity, one gets to about the fourth letter and then one can actually scroll through a list of matching items. Browsing via the Controller is also fairly lame since first one has to scroll through all the other letters to get to letter one actually wants. And yes I know that one can scroll both up and down through the alphabet but what if one is wants to browse through the letter M, then it makes no difference whether scrolls down through a,b,c... or up through z,y,x..., it still takes forever, provided one doesn't just blow past the letter M while in "fast scroll" mode because then it takes forever squared. Now contrast this rather poor behavior with that of the remote. Want to search? Install the Lazy Search plug-in and one just enters the first four or five letters via the alpha-numeric keypad and a short list of scrollable (via the up & down arrows) choices appears. Want to browse? Use the alpha-numeric keypad to quickly get to the letter one wants and scroll (via the up & down arrows) to the choice one wants. Seems like a giant leap backwards to me, unless one just loves to see those 1" square full color covers. Okay, so I'm being just a tad harsh here since with the Controller one doesn't need to squint at the SqueezeBox/Transporter screen and one can also control devices without having to be within IR range. Still I find myself using the remote to find/select something to listen to and then I use the Controller once I've made my selection. And of course since the Receiver has no screen, one absolutely needs a Controller to operate the Receiver.
