I feel your pain. I have a similar situation. My car began playing up recently and the mechanic asked me if i could drive it to the local garage. No freaking way! what makes is double impossible is that its currently hooked up to my trailer. Rubbish mechanic, he should have been able to fix it by simply sending me an email. Re: [slim] Server message: "Your squeezecenter settings are available for the world to see
Sorry to hear you're having problems, but I'm not sure this is a Squeezecenter generated error - certainly that isn't a wording I have ever seen before. And Squeezecenter isn't capable of overwriting file or track names, or do you mean that there's a kind of pop-up message which fills up the screen? Can you post a screenshot? Important question - have you tried to open Squeezecenter for remote access (eg so you can play your music from work), or have you opened up any ports in your router at all (if running wireless). If so, and you haven't properly secured those ports, there are ways that people can search on the internet to find your Squeezecenter instance and access it. Not going to list them here, but it is possible. It may be that someone is having some fun at your expense. Either way, you need to secure your computer - fast. I would shut down SC, disconnect whatever is running SC from your network and run a full virus scan. Then you need to close down whatever ports you have opened up in your router to the outside world (assuming you are connecting via a router) so at least your system is secure. If you really want to open up your Squeezecenter to remote access (and it's not really designed with this in mind, so there is an inherent risk if you decide to to do this) you should really do this via an SSH or VPN, see 'this long discussion' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=15528&highlight=secure+remote+access+ssh) with some useful tips. I note that the wiki is now giving instructions to achieve remote access without mentioning any of these issues - serious error IMHO and I'll do some editing. -- Siduhe Who am I on 'LAST.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/siduhe)? If the number of development resources are limited, I would prefer if the focus is on something which most users want. This needs more investigation, I think we probably need some case where it is reproducible. In my library the number matches perfectly. The stats on top of the browse pages lists the total number of tracks in the currently selected item. So if you select an album it displays the number of tracks in the album. However, I can agree that it should display all songs if it you just enter the "Albums" menu because all tracks should be related to either a real album or to the "No Album" album. Could it be that "No album" tracks aren't included in the stats shown when you enter the Albums menu ? Could it be that internet radio stations are included in the main stats but not in the Albums stat ? You could install the Database Query plugin which makes it possible to list statistics directly from the database without the rest of SqueezeCenter logic involved. Re: [slim] Whats the latest firmware for the squuezebox?
Typically the firmware version is tied to the SC version, so when you download/install a new copy of SC you'll get the appropriate firmware. In general you shouldn't have to worry about it, it'll keep itself at the right version. -- radish radish's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=77 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=49943 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Anyone who is a bit bored.
Hi, while "polishing" my music library - and hence my SC installation - i stumbled across this "Use of uninitialized value in right bitshift" error message when scanning. I've narrowed it down to three problem mp3 tracks (creating 74 warning entries!!!). I tried various methods to rewrite/fix/repair the mp3 header using foobar->utils->rebuild-mp3-stream, mp3trim, and a few more. This fixed 2 of the 3 files, one track remains which responsible for 66 lines of log alone (priority "warning" despite the fact scanner.* is set to output only error messages) Did anybody find a working solution to get rid of those messages - or even better to fix the problem (mp3-frame-tags)? thanks! I'll attach my track to 'Bug 8070' (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8070) kind regards, Markus -- schiegl schiegl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6654 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48548 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Scanning doe new or updated music--
Hi! Why isn't it possible as an aoption to specify a directory to scan when one one wants to update ones's music database. As it is now we have the options of deleting all and rescan all or look for new or changed music in the full database. Both these options take loads of time if you have a large database. Wouldn't it be possible to add one more option, which which would allow you to just select a specific folder and have that scanned, retrieveing all tags, album covers and MusicIP info? It would be so much simpler and one wouldn't have to wait a couple of hours every time one has added an album! Re: [slim] Problem with itunes playlists
Glad I searched for other instances of this problem...I recently migrated to a new laptop as my primary Mac. Since the hard disk is smaller than the one on my old iMac, I transferred my iTunes library to an external disk. (I also transferred the actual Library files, not just the music, to make sure I could use the disk with both computers during the transition.) Now I'm set up on the new computer. iTunes finds my library and playlists with no problem. The SqueezeCenter, told to use iTunes and that the files are on the external disk, has found all my songs, albums, playlists, etc. And it can find the songs by album or artist, and play them. But while it lists all my playlists, they all show up as empty when I try to play them. I've rescanned the whole library and also just rescanned the playlists a couple of times, but no dice. Re: [slim] Dont Buy!!!!! (merged to remove cross-posting)
How about trying this: 1) Load squeezecenter on one of your laptops. Be sure to emulate the same sort of setup you have on your current server on your laptop - e.g. if your music is stored on a separate server or NAS, have the laptop get the music from the same place. 2) Plug it into the router and see if the problem still occurs. It probably will. 3) Now take the router and the laptop to where the SB is and see if the problem still occurs. 4) If the problem still occurs in that configuration, hardwire the router the SB and see if the problem still occurs. 5) Once you have it debugged on the laptop, copy the same fixes to the normal server and see if that fixes the problem. Re: [slim] Dont Buy!!!!! (merged to remove cross-posting)
I think wifi in general is a bit of a nightmare. At work we had big problems with wifi IP phones (Cisco 7920). Even if the phones just require a mere 100 kbps bandwidth we got choppy audio and lost connections. To make it work at a reasonable level we ended up with no more than 16 AP's, and that's in a 300 sq meter 3 storey building, running on three different channels to avoid overlap between AP's. We also had situations where we had no signal just 2 meters from an AP. At home, all my Sqeezeboxen are wired. Re: [slim] Problem with itunes playlists
...for iTunes to make separate playlist files. I didn't know it did that. I guess on the Mac it just keeps them in its native Library file, which is gibberish if opened in a text editor. As you describe, the XML file opens with descriptions of the playlists that reference the included tracks by number. And if I find the entry for the track number, it has the correct path statement. I can play the track if I navigate to it in SqueezeCenter via artist name or album name; it's just that the playlist shows up empty. But I've just noticed that the list of playlists in SqueezeCenter isn't right. I've changed the name of one playlist in iTunes, but even though since then I've run "Clear Library and Rescan Everything" more than once, the old name keeps showing up in SqueezeCenter. So it seems like my real problem is that I can't get SC to truly read in my playlist info. -- wakey wakey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4936 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=49855 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Second, I'm still a little weirded out by that server statement; it does go away when I implement authentication, but I'd prefer not to do that, as some players are too dumb to allow that. Do you get also the covers and any MusicIP info and all tags by doing this ? If so does anyone know if this works also under Windows? How would the command then look? I assume one would then do this using the run command or a command box then? Haven't had time to test yet, but will do. Even if this works, I still think it would be great to have this option directly in the SqueezeCenter web page as one predefined way of scanning your music collection, i.e. by user selected folder.
