Re: [slim] Can't rescan playlists after SC7.1 update!
I had a similar problem. It appeared that I had a link in one of the folders directing to the top folder again. So, basically I had an endless loop for SC to work on. SC 7.01 had no probs with that (obviously broke up or had a better algorithm to recognize loops), but 7.1 looped forever. Removing the link solved the problem. You can easily search for it in the command line with "dir *.lnk /s" command in the root folder that you pointed SC to. -- jwka jwka's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17426 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50986 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Moose not working with 7.1
I have been using Dr. Lovegrove's Moose because it is a much more convenient way to choose CD's by cover and also the tree-style organisation is much better than the Web interface of the SC server (not to talk about the slow and tiny controller of the duett). Re: [slim] Digital Output
Paul, thanks for your reply. It turns out it was the cable after all. Not sure what happened to it, but I hooked it up to a meter and nothing at all. IT was actually working a week ago on other components. Bought a new cable and now everything is working perfectly. Enjoying the PS Audio Digital Link III and SB3 setup very much. A very nice improvement and can't wait for it to break in some more. One note for anyone who is using a DL III: The original bad cable I had would not give me a locked light at all. When I connected the new cable I turned all my other components off, disconnected the power cord from the DL III, disconnected the bad cable and attached the new cable, then plugged the power cord back in and turned on my other components. At this point I had a locked light, but still no sound. I then disconnected the power cable from the DL III again and reconnected it. At this point everything starting working fine. Not sure why I needed to disconnect the DL III power cord again, but that fixed the problem. Maybe just a fluke. [slim] MusicIP - definitive install instructions for 7.1/7.2 (inc. headless)?
Hi, after just over one month Music IP has finished scanning my music library. I've made a copy of the database and let Music IP write the info to my tags. My problem has now become which set of install instructions do I use. I have found at least five different sources and I'm not too sure any of them are relevant now that 7.1/7.2 includes MusicIP support. I am running 7.2 on Windows XP and ideally would like to try using MusicIp in headless mode (if this is still relevant for 7.1). Can someone who knows this software well and has installed it on 7.1/7.2 simply point me to the definitive instructions for getting MusicIP to work on 7.1/7.2 in Windows, ideally both in normal and headless mode. I am hoping that this question does not elicit as long and as confusing thread as the last Music IP question on this forum, so for myself and anyone else wishing to get this great program running in headless mode with 7.1/7.2 on Windows I'd appreciate it if replies were knowledgable, simple and to the point. It is highly recomended that you run the firware that came with that version of SqueezeCenter, there may be changes in one that rely on changes in the other to function correctly. However you can change a file in your SC 7.0.1 installation that tells it to accept the higher firmware version. If you edit transporter.version in the Firmware directory to read "1..50 50" at line 6 SC 7.0.1 shouldn't ask to downgrade your firmware all the time. -- funkstar funkstar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2335 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51011 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] WHS - Can't use share names in Squeeze Center setup?
To change the path in MusicIP, I went to preferences (under the file menu), I think the option was folders or library. MusicIP seems to have sorted itself out (I appear to have the right number of tracks showing now). However Squeeze Centre is showing lots of duplicates. I am hoping that another rescan tonight might sort that. Refreshing songs in MusicIP took rather longer than my forecast hour, closer to three! I was also adding ~25 CDs to the library last night, so I don't know what state the MusicIP library was in when Squeeze Centre did its nightly rescan. It may be that MusicIP was still in a confused state. At one point the track count was going up and down like a yoyo. I will force a rescan when I get home and report back later tonight or tomorrow. OK, so apart from "more snappy", which we all agree is the most important factor, it's: - Showing an artist with a track. Some more info, then. Where is the offending display item? Web gui? Transporter? SB3? Duet? Controller? You do change the display under Settings/Interface/Title Format; this lets you choose from a list of formats that you can customise yourself - you do this somewhere else in Settings on the web gui (can't remember where off the top of my head). oyvindo;328398 Wrote: > I find it so hard to understand why the developers at SlimDevices went > for a playlist file format that differs from the WMP standard. Why? As others have said, .wpl is far from standard - .pls and .m3u are much more common. .wpl is also proprietory to Windows. Not sure if you are aware from your other posts, but SC is cross platform and works on Mac and Linux too. There are increasing numbers of people out there who don't use Windows. So if .wpl was the "only" playlist format supported, people with Macs/Linux OS wouldn't be able to use SC, people who have .mp4 files couldn't use SC and if SC created its playlists in .wpl format they would probably have to pay some kind of licence fee to Microsoft, because it's a proprietory format. Personally, I think it's very helpful that the designers have gone for the approach of supporting a wide range of formats. -- Siduhe Who am I on 'LAST.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/siduhe)? Is that supposed to be a reply to my quote you have highlighted above? Appreciate you are having some issues you've discussed elsewhere, but not quite sure what I did to provoke that kind of reaction in you - I was just trying to help someone out. Actually, I very much like the default web interface in SC7 (lightening fast for me using Firefox), but I've been using SC for so long that I know my way around it instinctively - and am probably desensitised to some of the things that are bugging you. Couple of things I can suggest - have you tried some of the other skins like Fishbone and SlimFX - you may like those better if it is truly about the interface design for you? oyvindo;328404 Wrote: > The SqueezeBox itself is beutifully designed; menues, structure, > behaviour, everyting is fantastic! Re: [slim] Squeeze controller losing network connection
I have a similar situation to Stevan in that the controller will lose connection to the SC server overnight whilst in the cradle and not reconnect without restarting the controller. The wireless power saving makes no difference. However, I am running SC on a QNAP TS-209 Pro set up to do a scan for new music overnight, during which time it becomes un-responsive. So I tried running a scan this morning manually, after reconnecting the controller, and lo and behold the controller has lost its connection and cannot re-connect, even though the scan has completed and the server is now responding normally. I will try disabling the scan tonight and leave the controller in the cradle to see if it loses the connection again. BTW I can ping the controller successfully even though it can't connect, in fact I can even log in using SSH so it is not a wireless or network issue. So, it seems to me that the real problem is the controller and SC being unable to re-establish a dialogue once interrupted. However, it is odd, since I can move the controller out of wireless range (and get the blue icon) yet it will reconnect perfectly once within range again. I hope this helps someone sort this problem, because it is really annoying! -- chemirocha chemirocha's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18708 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45031 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] MusicIP - definitive install instructions for 7.1/7.2 (inc. headless)?
Hmmm... the insructions are very good and all is well so far except for one rather large thing: Do I still need to install the SugarCube plugin or is this unnesseccary as MusicIp is integrated into 7.1/7.2 (Note: 7.1/7.2 comes with a pre-installed Musicmagic directory - C:\Program Files\SqueezeCenter\server\Slim\Plugin\MusicMagic - which I'm guessing is the included MusicIP plugin. Other than that, for those that follow Ifound these things unclear in the SpiceFly XP install instructions: 1) Should mention the need to start service before trying to bring it up in web browser with http://localhost:1002 2) Gives the path to library as Vista path (to Documents and Settings). For me on XP, 1.8.1b installed the MusicIP library in my C:\Program Files\MusicIP\MusicIP Mixer directory 3) Link to Replacement MusicIP interface is incorrect (interface not found on page that is linked to) 4) Found it unclear if the registry fix for MusicIP/SqueezeCenter was necessary for my XP SqueezeCenter plugin headless MusicIP IP implementation. 5) Not possible to download SpiceFly Sugarcube from web site. 6) No mention of whether SugarCube was required with SqueezeCenter 7.1/7/2 (although this text on the Spicefly web site seems to infer it is "It was written against Versions 1.8 of MusicIP and SqueezeCentre 7.01 running on Windows XP. MusicIP creates Playlists based on a single track/album seed with a fixed playlist length... (Correct me if I'm wrong here, I don't remember if one can create endless playlists with MusicIP) MusiIP=Single root->Multiple Branches. Sugarcube, on the other hand, creates a dynamic "endless" playlist based on the currently playing song. Sugarcube=Multiple Roots->Single Branch. I hope I made sense. I use both as you end with completly different playlists (moods). Currently Sugarcube is having issues generating playlists if the next track has extended characters in its path or filename. I hope this is fixed in the not too distant future as my music library has a large percentage of World Music that has been ripped/tagged using their native language. When Sugarcube is enabled and working as designed... [slim] Low level buzz from Transporter
Seems I have a problem with my Transporter, and I'm not sure what it could be. Basically if I attach my transporter to my system it creates a very low level buzz in the speakers, on any input and with the volume reduced to zero. Although it is (very) low level it does affect sound quality on vinyl. Obviously I cannot isolate the buzz from playback when using the TP, but I assume it is also having a negative affect there too. If I pull the mains cord, it stops (surprise surprise). If I pull the interconnects, it stops - so probably not mains related. I don't believe it's a ground loop, as it affects all inputs, and is not volume related. Right now I'm pulling the mains chord when using vinyl, but that's hardly ideal. Re: [slim] LG Dare
Without wi-fi, the only strategy that I can imagine would be to access your Squeezecenter server over your 3G/EDGE network. This would likely entail setting up a Dynamic DNS service, ensuring that the appropriate port forwarding is enabled, and using the /handheld skin (not sure how the touch skin will appear on your phone). This will of course be relatively slow. I have this setup on my own network and it does work, but as my phone is wi-fi capable, it has not had much use other than perhaps scaring the dog while out. -- ds2021 __ All your bass are belong to us. ds2021's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10078 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51029 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] "Song by Artist" format - I like "Artist - Song"...
In the web interface there's some odd logic in the display code that adds "by [artist]" if ARTIST is not already in the format string. If ALBUM isn't in the format string, it will also add "from [album]" in places such as the playlist. On the player display I think you'll find that it uses the title format exactly as it's entered. -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51001 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

If one were to judge from the remote, I would say the Boom is closer to the SB3. Howard -- Howard Passman Sorry slow to respond. I don't spend that much time online and God knows I can't type. [slim] BBC 5Live not available, anyone else got this ?
Hi All, BBC 5live isn't available for me currently, tried to access today and it is coming up with a message saying 'Due to rights restrictions, we are currently unable to bring you this program' rather then streaming the station, all other BBC stations seem to be working. Is anyone else getting this or know why this might be ? I checked on the 5live website and the station is streaming from the website so unsure as to why it would be unavailable via Squeezenetwork Thanks Ian -- socistep socistep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18860 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51036 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] "Song by Artist" format - I like "Artist - Song"...
Alright, thank you pippin - then I must have screwed something up. Only a test installation, so I'll try reinstalling. But do you know what files are involved in creating the variables, like "TITLE"? Sorry, get a feeling this topic should be in another subforum here now... -- netphreak netphreak's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=19142 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51001 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
