Re: [slim] SB3 VFD Luminosity (beloved one can not sleep)
Unfortunately in the SB2 and SB3, 1 is as dark as it gets and it's no more fine-grained than that. Boom is much better - it can go much darker due to hardware differences. You may want to try Settings - Display - Standby Font set to High, then size set to small. To get a High font in the web UI, select the blank drop-down box, then use the drop-down arrow. That will eliminate everything but the clock on the top line and use 1-pixel-wide characters. This is literally the smallest number of pixels that can be lit to indicate the time. Turn off more pixels by setting the font to read hour and minutes only, no date. A 24-hour format would eliminate a few more characters but I can never get 24 h time. :-) Even after the above I found it was still bright enough to make a nightlight and cast shadows. Again, Boom is much better here - perhaps the developers heard my pitiful whining. ;-) -- Mark Lanctot Current: SB2, Transporter, Boom (PQP3 - late beta) Stored: Boom (PQP1 - early beta), SBC (beta - no battery) Sold: SB3, Duet Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55353 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Slimp3 screen blanking when scrolling, not sb1
I've recently noticed that when I'm playing from a playlist on my Slimp3 that the screen momentarily blanks each time I try to scroll through the list of songs to be played. With the now playing screen showing the current song progress, if I press the remote's down button, I'll get shown what is next, but within about 0.5 seconds the screen will go blank, for about 1 second, then re-appear. Press down again, same thing happens. If I repeat this very quickly the screen stays lit. I also have an SB1g and this does not go blank. I'm using 7.2.1 on XP Pro (after upgrading from 7.2, since for some reason I could not get the server to show me the 'DISPLAY' settings option for my Slimp3, though that server page worked fine for my SB1g (the log showed a problem accessing a method in display.pm). Upgrading solved that problem, but not the screen blanking of the Slimp3. Both units are wireless (Slimp3 through a bridge) and wireless strength is good (60%). My PC is dual core 2.6GHz, not doing anything else at the time. Thanks for any advice. Re: [slim] How Many Duet Controllers?
I don't think there are any limits to the number of Controller remotes you can attach. The Controller doesn't do any sync at all. The Squeezeboxes do all the syncing. Yes, each Controller is independent, and each SB is independent. The only real limitation to the number of Controllers is you can only have about 30 devices per access point. Wifi APs tend to get cranky when you get past 25 devices. My suggestion is to have as many Controllers as you have people in the house who use the system. Per another thread: snarlydwarf;303382 Wrote: SC merges ARTIST and ARTISTSORT as part of the scan process. A single file with ARTISTSORT will set the sort order for every occurence of that artist. (Ie, it makes no distinction between Elvis Costello's with and without sorts defined... if any Elvis Costello track defines the artistsort, it will carry onto all tracks.) So you will have to look at every track with Elvis Costello as artist to see if it has the sort defined. I do use it by exclusion for some views in J River Media center - for example, don't display all albums with GENRE = CHRISTMAS. (www.rockbox.org) Plays flac, ogg, and all that and can be synced using your choice of Linux programs. Works great for me - one flac library, no messing about with playlists, converting, any of that and it sounds awesome. MS No, this is much better than what we did before. OK, I was mistakenly thinking that this was being done with sox, but it's actually using lame to convert to mp3. However, that is way better than dropping every other sample, which causes massive aliasing - all the material above 22 KHz gets folded down into the audible band. Re: [slim] SB3 VFD Luminosity (beloved one can not sleep)
Thank you very much mark for this hint. I knew I've seen something like this in the past, but looking quickly, I couldn't retrieve it. I'll try with this setting but I think it will be ok (I just fear I won't be able to read it in the middle of the night). I didn't understand your explanation about setting the hour and date separately. To me, the apparition of the date is only relative to the font type (i mean that with some font size the date is present, with other, it isn't). I could also try light narrow with a simple date dd.mm.yy format. The idea of photo filter has already been studied, but I prefer not having the clock than being forced to put some plastic sheet on the SB screen. I already had to put some blu-tack on the bright blue led indicating the input of the power amp :). (Teac has made a dimmer function on the remote, but put some bright blue led on the machine... idiot engineers!) -- vrobin vrobin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11705 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55353 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

If no standard tag exists for the data you'd like to track, creating your own custom tag is much less likely to create conflicts than repurposing an existing standard tag--because when you repurpose an existing tag, you are relying on the quirks of a particular implementation, which can change at any time. -- CatBus CatBus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7461 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55335 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] wireless bridge function sb classic
My SB classic works great via wireless about 80ft from my router.I just got a DirectTV HDDVR with internet capability which sits next to the SB so I wanted to use the SB as a wireless bridge rather than run a cable. I turned bridging on. I followed the directions for the Direct TV box. My tv showed that indeed the network was connected, but I couldn't get a internet connection on the DirectTV box. Later, I found that my internet was down and I had to do a cable modem and router reset. I haven't tried the setup again. Could this attempt at connecting another device through the SB bridge function have crashed my router? Is there something else I need to be careful of before trying this again? Thanks for any suggestions. Another receiver, however, is still connected wirelessly. Question is, how I can I tell the attic receiver is connected via powerline and not wireless. My test signals shows a low connection. All I did was plug everything in and connect the receiver via Ethernet to the powerline adapter. You have to push the button on the receiver and re-configure it with the ethernet cable connected. You're still on wireless now I think. You should see the choice/selection for wired on the controller while re-configuring it. cheers, Nick. -- DeVerm DeVerm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18104 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27990 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] DIR-655 or Airport Extreme for Duet Controller?
Mark Lanctot;362219 Wrote: Why? The only reason I can think of would be so that the SB uses less time on the air, leaving more bandwidth for other users of the router. When one disables support for 11 Mbps b devices on the router it shouldn't be an issue until you get a lot of SB's playing at the same time. One can always install a seperate (older?) router for SB on a different channel or, even better, go to the 5GHz band for the other users, using a dual-band/dual-radio router. cheers, Nick. -- DeVerm DeVerm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18104 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55358 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Best or at least good places to buy SB in the Netherlands?
Hi, Christmas on the way and I want to buy a SB thingy for a present. It needs to be shipped to an address in Holland (Rotterdam). This shouldn't be too difficult but I am about 7000 km away in Panama I did find Dunnet and WifiSound on the net. Anybody who can point me to a good place (good price, availability, reliable?). Wireless most certainly works. You may of had some interference or something but it indeed works. My daughters runs fine. I have a WebCam setup for security in a summer home and used the Powerline stuff thinking it would be more stable. It was not. I finally installed a Wireless solution and it's been rock solid.
