It would be neat. But its not clear how long the merged XM/Sirius will
stay viable as a business. All media is having problems with the current
market. The merger will not be easy as the technology behind the two are
not compatible. The biggest customers of each were the new car
manufacturers, and they are hurting badly.

I like competition, but I'm not sure if we'll all be listening to music
streamed over wifi to the 64GB flash disk in our car before the merger
happens.

It works fine today, just update the maxVersion (i.e. to *) attribute
in it's install.xml file (search the forums). Once 7.3 is released
lazysearch will hopefully be updated (it shouldn't be too difficult, as
the plugin api hasn't changed)

P.S. And yes i agree: it's an excellent plugin when it comes to

I hear you. Repeat mode has been used to kludge continuous play in a
couple of other things, like Slacker. SqueezeCenter seems remarkably
incapable of keeping track of the mode and I'm constantly finding my

Yes, this is basically what I mentioned was my biggest problem with the
app in a previous post. You must have missed it with the flood of posts
that have been pouring in!!!

To quote myself again, this is what I said in regards to the Classical
Music issue:

"The bulk of my collection is Classical music in FLAC format and as you
can guess I've run into some problems browsing. I NEED to be able browse
by composer (within the Classical genre would be nice, too). Also, let's
say I have a piano concerto by Mozart and under the Artist tag I have
"Alfred Brendel; Sir Neville Marriner; Academy of St.
Martin-in-the-Fields". Under the Now Playing, only one of those artists
will be displayed in the now playing listing. Anyway to rotate the three
in the display? Because like I said, without being able to view more
info, it gets confusing.

Another problem I've run into is with the display of long tracknames.
This is fine for a rock album or something, but for Classical, this is
a bit of a headache. Back to the Piano Concerto example, if I have an
album with the complete piano concertos of Mozart, I will end up with
something like:

"Piano Concerto No... 1. Allegro moderato
Piano Concerto No... 2. Adagio sostenuto
Piano Concerto No... 3. Allegro"

and so on...

Thus, it makes it impossible for me to figure out what number Piano
Concerto I am choosing!!!"

rebooting whichever machine SC and MIP is running on (they are running

No, you can't browse the music folder (yet) with iPeng.
When you browse somewhere new in the music folder, SC automatically
adds this to the library.

Re: [slim] Integrating MusicIP and SqueezeCentre

2008-11-28 Thread wreford

Steve - nope - no further progress. I tried installing 7.3 last night to
see if that made any difference but unfortunately not. I still have the
same problem when trying to play songs - ie: the squeezebox can't play
them.

Meanwhile I have been trying to follow Philip's advice to leave the
library path filled in "to retrieve music via SqueezeCenter's scanner,
and use MusicIP just for identifying mixable tracks" (which 7.3 does
allow you to do - though couldn't find this option in the 7.2.1 MusicIP
plugin). Unfortunately the damn thing now won't read my G drive so I
can't fill in the correct drive.

I think I might have to uninstall everything and start again - but the
thought of that fills me with gloom and I think I might just forget
about MusicIP except for mixing iPod playlists.

Not impressed by Logitec support though - still no response to my
support e-mail and phones don't get through from Europe.

Did you rescan your library with SqueezeCenter?
When that's done (the rescan) iPeng should notice the difference and
automatically refresh its cache. If it doesn't, you can try restarting
iPeng or use the "Flush Cache" button under "settings".

But first make sure that the library scan is finised on SQueezeCenter
since it will not deliver the new albums before that.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2 - wireless (partially) stopped working

2008-11-28 Thread radish

Weird. In general the fact that the DHCP is working so it gets an IP
shows two things, that the physical wireless link is working and that
it's connected to the network OK (i.e. the passkey etc is correct). I'd
try a few things if you haven't already:

1) Factory reset (see the wiki
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Hardware_Reset_commands)
2) Verify that the IP it gets is genuine (i.e. that it is within the
correct range for your network). Also verify that the router lists the
lease in it's web interface. It's possible that the SB isn't really
associating and is using a failback address whilst looking as if DHCP
is working.
3) Call support :)

Have a look at the "Subscribe to this forum as a Mailing List!" sticky

Oh yes. that's also fixed as are the pauses when loading large

[slim] Squeezebox 2 - wireless (partially) stopped working

2008-11-28 Thread flavor8

My squeezebox 2 suddenly stopped being able to find the slimserver on my
PC over wireless; however, over ethernet connection it works fine.

If I connect via wireless, it sees the router, gets an IP address, but
then can't auto-detect the slimserver. When I type in my PC's IP
address, it says that it's configured, but then turns off. When I turn
it on it says it cannot connect the slimserver, yada yada.

Doesn't the fact that it gets an IP address mean that the wireless is
basically working? If so, what could be causing this issue? Given that
LAN -> LAN on the router works, it doesn't seem like wireless -> LAN
would be causing issues; and, I've had it working fine on this router
for years.

[slim] How to make 'stopped' radio station to 'autorestart' ?

2008-11-28 Thread zorglups

Hi,

I'm enjoying my SB3 for a few week and eventually convinced my wife to
start loving it as well...

Unfortunately her favorite radio station sporadically stops playing.
The screen of the SB3 shows 'stopped' so I believe something happened
to the stream.

Isn't it easy to figure out that the stream stopped 'not because I
stopped on the stop button' and therefore have the SB3 restart the
stream automagically ?

My wife wouldn't have the time to notice the hiccup and I could finally
trow away my dust taking FMradio wasting space on the shelf.

Maybe a plugin does this already ?

Thanks,

Pierre.

Re: [slim] SBC Show Year with Albums

2008-11-28 Thread Hrimgrimnir

I HAD that. It was possible!
After a rescan, unfortunatly, I cannot show it again. It is visible in
SqueezeCenter, but not for the (Duet) Controller.

[Additional information]
Since a couple of weeks I use the following configuration Squeezebox
Duet:
SqueezeCenter-version: 7.2 - 22900
and a DS107+ NAS.

In SqueezeCenter the option "Year with Album" is set to
true/yes/positive (visible).

First, the collection was not that big and the year of album was
displayed. I.e. under the artist:
"Albumname"
"(Year)"
"Artist"

After a rescan (delete currect collection, start all over again), the
albumyear was not visible anymore _on the duet controller_.
No mather what I change in the settings in the SqueezeCenter; in
SqueezeCenter it is ALL ok, but I don't see it on the controller.

Info:
Setup Collection (for all artist/albums/songs):
Directory level 1: 1, A, B, ... Z
Directory level 2:
Directory level 3: - -
Directory level 4: -

(All TAGS are filled in as required!)

The following items I've tried to show it again:
-Restart Duet Controller
-Rescan collection / Full rescan
-Changed album order (1. Album, 2. Album, Artist, 3, Album, year,
Artist)
-Changed the order of guesing TAGS
-Changed NetworkName
-Changed collectionseize (changed to a smaller collection, with only 4
albums)
-Reset controller to factory settings
-Reset SB (SqueezeCenter) to factory settings

Anybody had the same problem? I would like to see the albumyear
again... :(

Dear MS - this is what I did, based on the advice in the thread.
Windows XP by the way:

1)find the latest SOX on the net and download (14.2 think)
look here:
http://sourceforge.net/export/rss2_projfiles.php?group_id=10706

make sure you download the Windows version from Nov 9 2008

2) put sox.exe and cygwin1.dll (from the download) into
squeezecenter\server\bin\mswin32-x86-multi-thread directory (rename old
sox.exe first!)

3) find custom-convert.conf - should be in the squeezecenter\server
directory

edit with NOTEPAD (this is important) and go to the bottom of the
file:
find the line:

# special case for smart bitrates on mp3 input

after that line, replace everythign with this:

#mp3 mp3 transcode *
# IFB:{BITRATE=-B %B}D:{RESAMPLE=--resample %D}
# [lame] --silent -q $QUALITY$ -v $BITRATE$ $RESAMPLE$ --mp3input
$FILE$ -

flc flc transcode *
# FT:{START=--skip=%t}U:{END=--until=%v}D:{RESAMPLE=rate %d}
[flac] -dcs $START$ $END$ -- $FILE$ | [sox] -t wav - -t flac -
$RESAMPLE$

# This example transcodes MP3s to MP3s, if the target machine has the
# given MAC address. This rule will take precedence over the
# previous rule because it's more specific.
#mp3 mp3 squeezebox 00:02:dd:34:e9:62
# ./brute_filter $FILE$ -

stop SC and restart - should just work!

[slim] Playlist bug when player power is interrupted

2008-11-28 Thread Mark Lanctot

I have an SB2 that I use when I'm exercising. It's connected to a
2-channel amp that draws a lot of power, so I power the whole thing
down from a power strip after I'm done.

Lately I've noticed that the Now Playing display reverts to the
PREVIOUS track when I power it up again. Let's say my playlist
consists of A, B, C. I play A, I start to play B, then I power down -
usually stopping first but sometimes just pressing the power button
(player set to stop on power down). I then cut power to the player.

When I power the player up again the Now Playing display is stuck at A,
the previous track and one I've already played. Shouldn't it be on B?
Oh and it doesn't necessarily stop at the first item in the playlist
(A), if I stopped on C it would start at B on power on.

System details:

SqueezeCenter Version: 7.2.1 - 23771 @ Thu Nov 6 02:09:32 PST 2008 -
Debian - EN - utf8
Perl Version: 5.10.0 x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi
MySQL Version: 5.0.67-0ubuntu6
Platform Architecture: x86_64-linux

I'm not sure of the SB2 firmware version, it's powered down at the
moment :-) - I seem to recall 113. I don't believe it matters, this
seems like a server-side issue.

Is this a bug? I searched existing bug reports and couldn't find
anything similar. What debug flags should I set?

Thank you!

[slim] Can I test 7.2.x on a laptop first?

2008-11-28 Thread whitman

I'm thinking of moving up to 7.2.x from 6.5.1, principally so that I can
use the latest benefits of the iPlayer plugin over the deteriorating
effectiveness of AlienBBC in 6.5.x mode (BBC's fault, not the great
Alien guys).

I'm on a Mac running OSX 10.5.5.

Is there anything to stop me trying out 7.2.1 on my (also Mac) laptop
and leaving the desktop machine, the one where 6.5.1 currently resides,
with 6.5.1 until I decide it all works?

Could I, for example, access my iTunes library, which resides on an
outboard hard drive, from the laptop, as part of my test, without
upsetting anything?

I'd be grateful for any guidance. I'm just thinking that moving up to
7.2.x is a little more tricky and trouble-prone for Mac users than PC
users, from what I've read here.

Doing a quick search on ShoutCast via WinAmp it gives 22 Classical
genre streams at 160k or better:
6 x 160k
8 x 192k
6 x 256k
2 x 320k (including AVRO)

Sure you could do that. Just rip the files using VortexBox then copy the

use something like rsync. If you kept your VortexBox rsynced to your

You have to install the aacPlus plugin to be able to listen to it. Have

2008-11-28 Thread tamanaco

Tamanaco (Cacique Venezolano) - Venezuelan Indian Chief that along with
his fighting men resisted the Spanish conquest. Soon after his warriors
defeated the Spaniards in a battle, he was captured and sentenced to
death. Rather than being hung, he choose to fight to death a Spanish
fighting dog bare-handed. This last act of courage inspired his people
to continue to resist the conquest. After his death Venezuelan native
warriors yelled his named before going into battle.

Not much is known or written about the heroes that resisted the Spanish

remembered by the natives and passed down by word of mouth to my

[slim] Selecting music and creating playlists on Classic

2008-11-28 Thread adam2434

Hi,

I watched some video demos on this, but they were not very
informative.

I'm heavily considering a Classic, but the one thing holding me up is
the question of whether a Classic will be a step backwards in terms of
ease of music selection and playlist creation vs. my current set-up.

Currently, I use Foobar and send spdif over coax from my PC to my DAC.
With this set-up, I'm able to scroll through hundreds of albums and set
up a playlist on-the-fly as fast as I can drag and drop. Because so
much info is visible on the PC monitor, this is a super quick and
convenient process.

What's scrolling and playlist creation like on the Classic? From what
I've seen, you can only view one album at a time, so it seems like
scrolling through a large library to create a playlist would be much
more time consuming. Is this accurate?

I guess I could use Foobar to create a playlist, save it to where
SqueezeCenter is pointed, then select that playlist with the Classic's
remote. Is there a better way?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Adam

Tried exiting before it crashed, and restarting. Still no good I am

I understand that when iPhone apps start they get to display a static
splash screen, so that the user gets to see something before the app
proper is running. iPeng's splash screen shows a volume bar and the
transport buttons.

I really think you should remove the controls from the splash screen.
They aren't functional and all they do is annoy me as I try to change
the volume before there is a real control there.

At the very least I think you should change the image so the controls
as shown as disabled.

Do you use authentication? I've seen some trouble when starting iPeng

that would be to simply exit iPeng AFTER you have entered the

contains... well.. this).

You don't use your iPod that often, right?
It's the "normal" Apple way. In the Playlist, click the button in the
title bar (it doesn't say "edit" for lack of space, on a German iPod
that translates into "Bearbeiten"...). Then you get into edit mode and
you can move around the tracks with the handles that show up on the
right.

BUG ALERT: Don't move the first track! It will crash iPeng. You can
move another one up before the first one but hands off #1!

No, unfortunately not. No kidding, I'm very unhappy with the scrolling
behavior on the Player screen (although you will only notice with many
players or several servers) and for this reason the left/right
scrolling as it is now will very likely go away in one of the next
versions and be replaced by buttons + "real" swipe or something...

Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store

2008-11-28 Thread Sune

Dear Pippin,

Just wanted to say that I more or less gave up on the web app, as it
was too slow for the way I used it. Thus, I have been looking much
forward to the actual app (I bought my iPod Touch in spring 2008,
specifically because of iPeng).

I bought it, installed it and I am so far happy. There was a bit of
weird stuff going on initially, but after having updated by
SqueezeCenter to 7.2.1 and then flushed the cache on my 'Pod,
everything seems to work.

As for the user interface, there are a few non-intuitive things that
you could perhaps elaborate on, on your help section. These includes:

- The "play / + / play-next" marker in the top line on pages where you
select songs.
- The fact that playlists are not instantly updated (I understand it
needs to come from the server...but normally you would see them
instantly)
- The shuffle-vs-normal-play thing discussed earlier in this thread
- How to reorganise your playlist (I haven't figured this one out
yet...)

But in general - happy happy happy. My iPod is now a beautiful and very
capable remote for my pretty SqueezeBox. Instead of the ugly thing from
Slim/Logitech.

Overall - definately worth the price so far :-)

Sune

P.S. I cannot make my MusicIP Mix work from the App...is it supported?
If so, there's probably just a pref somewhere in my SqueezeCenter I
need to fix).
P.P.S. Happy to see that the white dots made it to the App :-) Works
really nice now!

Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store

2008-11-28 Thread pippin

Looks like a bug :-(

I first suspected an empty "ignoredarticels" string (in SqueezeCenter:
Settings->Music Library->Ignored Articles) but here it looks robust
against that.

So it's probably like you suspect, one of your albums containing an
empty title or artist string

Which is a BIT strange since typically SC creates something if it can't
find anything.

I'll fix it, but as long as you don't find that album (or the
ignoredarticels thing miraculously helps) I'm afraid you will have to
wait for that update :-(

Oh, one more thing you COULD try:
You say, you can run iPeng for 20s, could you try to exit it regularly
after 15 of those and restart?
