Been hard at work this weekend; lots of code improvements under the hood
which should improve stability and performance. And here's a little
sample of the more visible improvements:

Which also has the advantage that you can select which Genres to
include/exclude which you can't with Squidgy.
The latter makes Squidgy's Random mix almost unusable for me since my
library has around 50% Audio Books which I typically don't like to come
up in a random mix.

You can add it to your favorites in Squeeze Centre then you can use it
in iPeng.

I only have iPeng so far but it is really very good. Squidgy's
landscape mode looks nice in the screen shot.

Re: [slim] Add small time display to now playing?

2008-12-21 Thread Idaho

Thank you very much, Bonze. I followed your method 2, using the
Extension Downloader and was successful in getting the new plug-in to
work. I will document the process in my files so that I can reproduce
this process for other plugins in the future.

I am truly amazed with the tremendous feature-set of SqueezeCenter. I
am very appreciative of the support provided to me through this forum.
Thanks to all.

JPEG or PNG.
I think iPeng will also support tiff and things like that (everything
iPhone supports, which is quite a lot) but I don't know whether SC
does.
Please DON'T use bmp. bmp files are not scaled by SC and will cause A
LOT of traffic (yet work as of 1.0.4). They generally cause a bit of
trouble in SC and take up around 20x the space of JPEGs

Well. iPeng uses 320x320 on NowPlaying, so having at least that would
be fine. SqueezeCenter will resample the artwork into the different
sizes, so anything better will work, albeit maybe a bit less crisp.
iTunes' 600x600 generally look nice :-)

dhiebert;374147 Wrote:

Only as supported in SqueezeCenter:
You can go (in SC, not iPeng) to "Settings->Music Library" and then add
"Composer" to Artists, after that, they will show up under Artists.
One of the next iPeng versions will support CustomBrowse, I think that
has more capabilities in this respect.

Re: [slim] scanning thru a song 7.3

FF/RW isn't working in podcasts or listen again radio in 7.3 but is
working for me with mp3 files and FLAC.

It may be that wav and/or cue (more likely cue) are also affected.
It's a bug and will hopefully be fixed.

Re: [slim] Best iPhone Remote

I bought iPeng. Ridiculously easy to get going. Download app,
browsing/listening to music 10 seconds later.

My only complaint is that I am just now realizing that I should have
been doing album art this whole time! It makes for nice image on your
iPhone to see the album cover that is playing.

[slim] scanning thru a song 7.3

2008-12-21 Thread indexit

Hi,

Not sure, but it seems like I used to be able to fast forward or
reverse inside of a track. I am using cue/wave files. When I try this
now the transporter says it can't scan thru a track on a remote
computer.

Also noticed that when I skip around song on an album 7.3 will play the
first few seconds of the first track before it jumps to the song I
want.

If scanning inside of tracks isn't a current feature will it be one in
the future?

thanks

Wifi doesn't work that way. You would not get static or popping. It
would just stop playing if the wifi were the problem. It sounds like

[slim] Syncing problems with 7.3

2008-12-21 Thread treble

I installed the new SqueezeCenter the other day, and not syncing between
Softsqueeze and Boom and SB3 is terrible.

I was syncing perfect with 7.2 and previous versions, but now
Softsqueeze is about a second or so behind. The boom and SB3 sync
fine, but Softsqueeze not.

Anyone else seeing the same problems? Or has any ideas why it stopped
syncing?

Re: [slim] Bad left channel?

2008-12-21 Thread colin_young

Nope. That didn't make any difference. Thanks though. I might try the
full factory reset, but I'll need to wait until I get squeezecenter up
and running again before I try that (and for that I need to find a SATA
cable that fits the SATA drive in my Linkstation -- apparently the combo
IDE/SATA cable I've got is not for all SATA connectors).

At least in the meantime I've got the right channel of internet radio
to entertain me.

Thanks.

Colin

Just like with EAC, SyncBack has an option to export profile settings.
It's under Profiles in the menu bar. Export all profile to a USB flash
drive and import once SyncBack is installed on the reformmated system.

OK - you have two choices:

1. Download the zip file from mherger and unzip to
SqueezeCenter\server\Plugins.
Restart SC7.3, and the MIS plugin will be available in each player
setup.

2. Delete the folder you just manually created for MIS, and restart
SC7.3.
Goto here
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezeCenter_Repositories, and
copy the url for mherger into an available box on the Extension
Downloader screen.
After hitting Apply you will get a new section titled "Michael's Slim
Stuff" under which will be listed the MIS plugin.
Tick the box, and again hit Apply.
SC7.3 will then download the latest version of the plugin for you and
install to a new ED plugin folder. (Hidden in the Cache)
Again you will have to restart SC7.3 for the plugin to 'take effect'

I've been using method 2 for a while now and you will soon get used to
it.
It saves time tracking down the authors website, downloading,
extracting to a shared folder, signing onto the WHS, and finally moving
the extracted contents to the correct SC7.3 location.
All controlled from the new ED screen, the only time you need to signon
to the WHS is to restart SC7.3

[slim] SqueezePlay Graphical interface

2008-12-21 Thread rksingla

I read in the 7.3 roadmap that SqueezePlay was being developing into a
full screen graphical interface to SC. I have been looking forward to
that (and hoped it would give my wife a more attractive way to control
our system). But when I downloaded SqueezePlay from the 7.3.1
nightlies onto our Mac, the only intereface I saw emulated the Squeeze
Controller.

Did I misunderstand the goal for SqueezePlay? Is it still in the
works? Have I just not figure out how to make the graphical interface
work?

Sounds like you did it correctly. Try stopping, exiting, then
re-starting SC7 then see if it shows up in Settings > Player > (drop
down)

Plugins can be hit or miss on just re-starting SC. Sometimes a
complete PC re-boot is required, at least that's what I've found.

Re: [slim] Add small time display to now playing?

2008-12-21 Thread Idaho

Thank you to both of you in responding to my question. This is my first
experience with plugins, so I need just a bit more guidance.

I am using SC 7.3.1 - 24324 which is operating nicely on my Windows
Home Server pc.

I have downloaded the MusicInfoSCR plugin folder from:
http://www.herger.net/slim-plugins/detail.php?nr=446

Not sure what to do with it, I removed the MusicInfoSCR folder from the
zip folder and placed it inside the
C:\Program Files\SqueezeCenter\server\Plugins
directory.

In the SqueezeCenter Windows Internet Explorer window, starting from
Home, I found Setings > SqueezeCenter Settings > dropdown window >
Plugins - Extension Downloader

Scrolling down, I see there is a box to insert "an additional
third-party extension repository by entering the URL for the
repository".

Is that where I am supposed to paste
http://www.herger.net/slim-plugins/detail.php?nr=446
?

If so, then what do I do?

Was I wrong in placing the MusicInfoSCR folder inside the
SqueezeCenter\server\Plugins
folder?

As you can see, I am LOST - sorry about being so dense!

MIS plugin: http://www.herger.net/slim-plugins/detail.php?nr=446

Downloader: SC7.3 > Settings > Advanced > (drop down menu) Extension
Downloader

But I'm almost certain MIS is now included in all SC7.3 releases. To
check:
SC7 > Settings > Player > (drop down menu) MIS

also:
SC7 > Settings > Plugins > MIS

[slim] Bad left channel?

2008-12-21 Thread colin_young

It's been a bad week for me squeezecenter setup. First I bricked my
Linkstation that runs squeezecenter (actually, the lights indicate that
it is working fine, and my switch is displaying lots of activity -- I
just can't find the thing on my network :( ), and then when I was all
proud of myself for remembering that I had set up my SB3 with
Squeezenetwork, when I connected I discovered that one of my speakers
was producing mostly static with a bit of audio mixed in.

After a fair amount of cable swapping and swapping outputs from my amp
(the no-longer-available Sonic T-Amp), I've isolated it to the left
output of the SB3 (swapping amp outputs leaves the same speaker bad,
swapping cables, same bad speaker, swapping outputs at the SB3 switches
which speaker is bad). I haven't had an opportunity to test the
headphone outputs (I've only got one pair of headphones, and those are
at the office), and I don't have anything that can use the digital
outputs.

Is this a known or common problem? Is my SB3 toast? Can anything be
done about it?

Thanks.

Colin

However, if you want to increase the likelihood that you'll be able to
edit the SBC/web gui menu structure sooner rather than later add your
vote to this bug:

It only takes a second to register with bugzilla.

BTW. You can create sub-folder under favourites which could be one

[slim] Screensaver not disappearing on wake up

Hello

Before I upgraded to SC7.3, when I picked up my Controller from the

That would be very cool indeed. They have talked about possibly adding
a similar folder structure (add, edit, sub-folders, etc...) to SN
Favorites for some time now, but it just never makes it to the build
level. The SD developers are swamped with all of the other
improvements to SC and SN, can't really blame them.:)

Yes, no problem with using iTunes generated playlists on SC. I just do
an auto sideways update/copy of my "iTunes" files & libary every
evening with a SC auto recsan every day @ 4am which works 100%
perfect.
I think your problem could be using the wrong Qnap folders, try the
below on your SC setup options:-
Music Folders - /Qmultimedia/music/iTunes/iTunes Music
Playlist Folders - /Qmultimedia/music/iTunes - into which I copy the
.xml

It's just a case of making sure you maintain the same file folder
structure that you have on your PC as you have on your Qnap.

Yeah, I understood what you were asking. And, no, I was not suggesting
you delete or hide the entire Internet Radio menu item. I was offering,
what I believe to be, the closest you will get to what you desire. :)

I was suggesting that you use the hide (inactive) menu items for any
services or items (like subscription services you don't use) within the
Internet Radio menu so they will not appear on your devices menu.
Removing the unwanted menu items will greatly improve the "clutter" you
spoke of.

It isn't a complete "customized" solution, but it's as close as you
will get with the current versions of SC and SN.

As a starting point for WiFi interference trouble shooting, do a quick
survey of your WiFi networks around you where your (whichever) computer
program shows you ALL available WiFi networks.

You may find in the evenings your neighbor is turning on his WiFi and
is using the same WiFi channel as you are using. Channels are 1
through 11. Change the channel on your router to a channel not being
used near you.

If it's a non-WiFi signal conflict (HAM radio operator, etc...) you may
need to just try all channels till you find one that fixes the
interference.

Re: [slim] Internet Radio Menu structure - Why not editable?

2008-12-21 Thread hugo29

Sorry for not beeing clear on what I'd like to do.
I do like to have the menu entry "Internet Radio", BUT I'd like to be
able to clean up and create my own structure within "Internet Radio".
To disable it totally, as suggested by Toby, is not the solution I'd
like to see.

Re: [slim] Internet Radio Menu structure - Why not editable?

2008-12-21 Thread ModelCitizen

As Toby indicates Internet Radio items are editable, both in the web gui
and the SNC.. which is just as well as the Internet Radio area is a
disaster zone:

* Lots of dud (unobtainable) stations
* Tons of overlapping and duplicated stations
* Far too many attempts at sensibly catetorising stations
* Inclusion of services that the user is not eligable for
* Inability to include Last.fm radio in Internet Radio category
* The demotion of Shoutcast to the More Radio sub-category

I even have three ways of getting to BBC stations - two I understand,
iPlayer & AlienBBC, but the third, just called BBC and in the
extraneous "More Radio" category leaves me nonplussed. It does have the
best titles for individual BBC radio stations though.

[slim] Strange interference on wifi SB2s

2008-12-21 Thread mustbemad

Hi All

Can anyone shed any light on a strange intermittant problem I'm
having?

I have 2 SB2s & 1 SB3 in the house. The SB2s are on wifi, the SB3 is
on wired Ethernet. Occasionally - this is usually in the evenings I'm
getting very bad static on the SB2s - a sort of fizzing & popping noise
at a constant volume. Comes through my amps whether the SB 2s are on or
off, or even a different source selected. It goes away when they are
powered down. The SB3 does not seem to be affected which may be
because its on wired Ethernet, or not suceptable to the problem.

Any ideas? I think it may either radio bourne noise thats getting
through somehow - though I don't have a taxi control next door or
anything I can think of. Or it could be some form of mains RF noise
which combined with the presence of the wifi module causes the issue?

When it stops, it stops suddenly & goes right back to normal on both
players at the same time.

The SB3 has no wifi card.

Cheers

MBM

Sorry about this; if you'd like a refund, drop me an email and I'll see
what I can sort out, otherwise I'll try and get a new release out with
authentication support ASAP.

[slim] Recently played ?

2008-12-21 Thread Mnyb

Hi all,

Sometimes you miss the obvious :)

I noticed after 2 years that it does not exist any "recently played "
list or menu in any of the interfaces SB3/WEB/SBC.

Is there any enhancement request for this ? so one can vote on that.

would be realy cool to have "recently played songs","recently played
albums"
"recently played radio stations","recently played folder".

Something looking like the "New music" view ?

And of course remembered and retained on per player basis.

Re: [slim] Not scrobbling

2008-12-21 Thread davep

Not sure if this is the case with the official scrobbling plugin but
take a look at the Player tab on the Settings page and you should see
an item related to LastFM or Scrobbling in the drop down list. Take a
look at this page and see if it has a check box to enable that player
to scrobble.

This may seem like there are too many places you have to set up
scroblling but it is done for people like myself with multiple players
who do not want them all to scrobble (e.g. kids music, etc).

I still find that using Squeezenetwork + BBC Radio stations: then "Now
Playing" = -mms stream info- and NOT -"BBC Radio 4"-.

Nobody else?

What do you get for "Now playing" when playing BBC Radio via SN?

[slim] Internet Radio Menu structure - Why not editable?

2008-12-21 Thread hugo29

Hi,

I live in Sweden and I find that the Internetradio menu is cluttered
with all the services available around the world. What I'd like is the
possible to add and remove folders and entries to create my own
structure. I have not found any way to do this. If it is possible
please let me know. As it is now I have removed the Internet radio Main
Menu (since I have no use for it) and added all Radiostations to the
Main Menu Favorites instead.
Please tell me I'm wrong and that I can add/remove/change the Internet
Radio structure both in SN and SC.

Regards,
Hugo

Re: [slim] Backing up FLAC and SyncBackSE settings

To backup the EAC configuration, go the menu EAC > Profiles > Save
Profile... (or Shift+F2). Save the profile to wherever you like and
back it up. After you reinstall use EAC > Profiles > Load Profile...
(or Shift+F1) and load the saved configuration.

Yes, sorry. I use EAC to rip my CDs to FLAC. I was wondering if it is
possible to backup/save these EAC settings?

All my music files (FLAC & MP3) are stored on a separate external HDD.

Re: [slim] Backing up FLAC and SyncBackSE settings

2008-12-21 Thread JJZolx

What Flac settings? Flac is a command-line program and has no settings
apart from the options that you pass to it. On Windows, there's also
Flac Frontend, a GUI interface to command-line flac.exe, but it has so
few options that it isn't really worth bothering.

Maybe you mean the Flac settings that you've configured in your ripping
software? Which program do you use to rip CDs?

[slim] Backing up FLAC and SyncBackSE settings

2008-12-21 Thread norderney

I am thinking about reinstalling my operating system on my PC, which
means reinstalling all my software applications. Is there anyway to
backup/save the current settings for FLAC? This would save me having
to customise my FLAC settings after reinstalling the FLAC application.

Also, does anybody use SyncBackSE - backup utility? Is there any way
to back up its configuration settings so that I do not need to
customise it as well?

Thanks
